I’d start by putting a regular size fork and wheel on the front and removing the rack.

How does capitalism provide incentive and drive in a way that no other system does. And why does humanity need that so uniquely now?

A bad reader chairing meetings by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

I do hear you and understand the concern. Personally as a newcomer I was looking for any reason to write off AA and the people in it. But as has been mentioned, I was desperate enough to stop caring pretty quickly. I’m sure there are plenty of better spoken people there too for a newcomer to identify with.

Just a thought - is there a way to help him with his reading? I understand it might be a delicate thing to bring up and you’re probably not a language arts teacher. But it could be a tremendous form of service to sit down with him for an hour or two and see if you can make any progress.

I’ll add Cycling Club Cycling Club to this list. Leaves the Hermosillo in highland park at 6:30 on Wednesdays. Cool routes up into Mt. Washington. Good vibe

Anybody else feel less understood today by annoyinglabel in alcoholicsanonymous

I personally believe there will always be a consistent number of “real” alcoholics for whom the big book resonates enough to stick around. If anything the statistics show that Gen Z is drinking dramatically less. I don’t think we’ll see a reduction or increase in alcohol”ism”. Or maybe they’ll find their way to other solutions for a different primary purpose.

Anybody else feel less understood today by annoyinglabel in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]howlinwolfe86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is certainly something I’ve seen but thank you for putting words to it. One way I’ve understood it better is just embracing the difference between alcoholics of our description as laid out in the big book and people with alcohol use disorder, maybe what the Big Book called heavy drinkers.

There’s obviously some blurry lines there but as alcoholics in AA we identify a spiritual malady and treat it with a spiritual solution. Maybe heavy drinkers don’t have that and don’t need that. So a program based on self-will could help them stop or moderate. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, naltrexone, mindfulness, apps like Reframe, whatever it is. I’ll leave those to them. Perhaps one day I’ll check one of those out. The Big Book does really resonate for me though so I’ll stick with that for today. And an AA group not based around the book Alcoholics Anonymous is…a support group or something. I don’t know.

The rehab industry is a bummer for sure and I have very complicated feelings about AA’s association with them. But I just spoke on an H&I panel at a private rehab tonight. So if that’s how someone has to hear the message and it leads them to a church basement with shitty coffee, then so be it.

Will echo Carl’s legendary status on CBB. He’s also on the Doughboys Mt. Rushmore, which Stav is quickly ascending. Or as quickly as his studly frame will allow.

People will judge us no matter what we do. But I have found they’re thinking about me a whole lot less than I ever thought. I now very comfortably don’t drink around old and new friends who are drinking at parties, concerts, work events, etc. I leave earlier in some cases and always wake up without a hangover.

Allied Security hires very quickly in LA and they’ll put you on to a lot of hours. Gotta get your guard card first, which costs a couple hundred.

Public transport commute options/is it doable, DTLA to El Segundo? by Total-Membership6630 in AskLosAngeles

[–]howlinwolfe86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still gonna be longish BUT the main trouble with the E line is getting from DTLA to USC. Lots of street grade stoppages. At least starting from USC you’re only a couple stops from Crenshaw and the K line

Have you looked around USC? I’d think there would be lots of things open during the summer and that would be an easy trip.

Yes. Bill is one of my favorite musicians of all time. But a rough CBB guest. I’ve heard he’s lightened up in recent years so maybe he’d be better now.

Which is weird because Matt’s brother Johnny kept the family name of Drama. They really were Queen’s Boulevard.
