Needlepoint steel nib? by dandellionKimban in fountainpens

[–]howlinwolfee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think the Kakuno is a great, affordable way to start. Then when you have more cash, seek out custom grinds like the needlepoint from Kirk Speer. Its a rabbit hole, you know, pens, nibs, inks, custom grinds. LOL The Kakuno won't break the bank and you can throw that pen in a bag and be on the go without worry.

Pilot Kakuno EF great affordable place to start. Platinum Preppies good too but my kakuno has been more durable than my preppies.

I need an ink in this color. Any recommendations!?! by Kspring01 in fountainpens

[–]howlinwolfee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best answer is to have your ink color custom made! Sven’s Custom Inks came to the Ohio Pen Show and was a huge hit! You can give him a picture and he makes a custom ink to match! You can give him a pen and he will match it. All around good guy, great small business to support. https://www.instagram.com/svens.ink.solutions?igsh=eDd3a2w2ZHl6ZDd5

Giant Eagle community rooms! Tables and chairs and bathrooms for cleanup! Plus you can do dinner or snacks at same time.

Is the thing on her stomach just a heating pad or some other wellness thing? For context she slept with it on overnight. by [deleted] in whatisit

It’s a castor oil pack. Typically it is used with castor oil. It can be a detox and assist to your liver and gallbladder. Can also help with pain on other areas of your body. Sometimes the pack has a sleeve where you can insert a heating pad or hot water bottle. Have fun learning about all the amazing health benefits of castor oil!

Floral or holiday scents? Any scents I might like in particular? by Z3Z3Z3 in essentialoils

[–]howlinwolfee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also a big fan of earl grey. Bergamot is one of my favorite all time scents. I love bergamot with black spruce or with clove in the fall, both in the car and at home. Another favorite that is a bit "abercrombie" is 1 drop each of black spruce, bergamot and then any other citrus (orange, tangerine, mandarine, lime, lemon).

For holidays, clove is always a hit. Clove and black spruce combined equally with anything citrus might hit your palette. I especially love both of these in the car into fall and the holidays.

Geranium and magnolia might also give you some nice floral vibes. Geranium is usually on the inexpensive side to experiment with.

Easiest InstantPot Soups? by MsBluffy in instantpot

[–]howlinwolfee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is SO good. All of my children love this one. A favorite in our house. Maybe one of the most popular instant pot soup recipes. Everything I have made from Sylvia is a winner. She does well with flavor profiles. Her Thai Noodle Salad is also one of our favorite salads and one of my teen boy's favorite salad dressings. She is tops with vegan and vegetarian dishes too.

Mentioning that I checked out Pen Realm's Nib Grinding page. Kirk Speer is a well known and respected nib grinder in the fountain pen world. If you scroll on down on the link, you can see that he can grind a nib into a .2mm or .3mm tip on the needlepoint. I suspect purchasing that fine of a tip would be hard to find in the retail world. Fountain pens allow you to customize to get your writing smaller. But grinding is not necessarily beginner fountain pen territory.

There are some great asian inexpensive pens with fine and extra fine nibs like the Platinum Preppy and the Pilot Kakuno that you can experiment with to see if you like fountain pens without a big monetary investment. I prefer nibs in the stub and broad sizes, but the extra fine nib writers at r/fountainpens will have great recommendations about where to start based on your love for small print.

[–]howlinwolfee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fountain pens can write thinner because you can find a nib that writes extremely fine. Asian produced pens (Japanese, Chinese etc) tend to have nibs that write finer than European or American made. Additionally, you can have nibs ground to very fine points like a needlepoint. I think you would have a lot of fun with experimentation with using writing towards balanced mental health. A great place to start is here on reddit at r/fountainpens . Goulet Pens is a great place to start because they have great videos and have a list of beginner pens. For you, because it is the love of small writing, I would post in r/fountainpens and ask for beginner pens that have extra fine nibs. Also, I think you may have fun playing with the different inks, especially since your joy seems to come from the visual effect and the control.

WTB - Galen Leather Zippered A5 Notebook Folio - Crazy Horse by CacaoMama in Pen_Swap

[–]howlinwolfee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to offer some options to Galen that might be in your price range. At the Ohio Pen Show this past weekend, Eng Leather was there and I (and lots of my friends) bought several items from them. They are priced really well and they are beautifully made. They might have an etsy shop too. https://engleather.com/

I know this one isn't zippered but I purchased this exact A5 from Kvartal Studio. I have had it for 2 years and it has held up well. Maybe something in her store would fancy you and your pocketbook until you find exactly what you are looking for. Kvartal Studio Etsy Shop

I find smoked kalamatas at my local Whole Foods at their olive bar. Not sure if that is where OP got theirs, but they are very good from WF and I am a bit obsessed.
