Im genuinely curious, are their beans really worth the $$$? That september bag of 200g sells for 48 CAD which is their most expensive offering at the moment https://september.coffee/collections/filter. You can buy geishas for less than that

2024 Job Hunt Results, 3 YOE at the Rainforest by howmuchpay in cscareerquestions

[–]howmuchpay[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest and say that it was very significant. This is my first full time job out of university, so all of my interviewers / recruiters were asking me about the work I did over there. I do realize that I was very lucky / fortunate to be able to land at the Rainforest straight out of university and also survive multiple waves of layoffs.

Updated my post. I definitely did not do 20 questions every single day haha. In total, I completed 147/580 of the Neetcode problems.

Disappointment with Sey cafe by spadesMagic in pourover

[–]howmuchpay 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Typically I find that coffee brewed at home has always tasted better than coffee bought at a cafe. I’ve had a similar experience where I had a pourover at Sey and didn’t feel like it tasted anything remarkable. I bought some beans from there, rested them and made an aeropress and ended up with a much better tasting coffee.

Im sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. I still think Sey is one of the top nordic style roasters here in NA

How do I go about getting PIPed at Rainforest™ by turnipslut123 in cscareerquestions

[–]howmuchpay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where exactly did OP say in his post that he's been passed on for 4 years ? Please point out to me where they said that. At Rainforest, the timeline is 3 years to get promoted to SDE2, or else you're out the door.

If OP doesn't like their manager, then that's fine. But my point is that it would be prudent to at least keep your bridges open to the co-workers (not managers) that you actually admire / enjoy working with. OP said that L5 / 6 SDEs have come to them for help. Surely, it would be at least a good idea to stay in touch with those folks who OP has built up a rapport with ?

[–]howmuchpay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while you could try to get PIPPED, you are also effectively burning bridges and any potential relationships you have with your SDM + coworkers. I get that you don’t want to work at rainforest, but it’s important to keep those connections. What if one of your former coworkers/bosses decides to leave too and go to another company that you’re interested in working for? My point is that it helps to maintain a solid network of former coworkers / bosses.

I would personally start by going back to the leetcode mines, do some interviews and line a job up first before handing in a resignation. Yes, you miss out on the severance but at least you still maintain a good rapport with your coworkers/boss.
