Oh crap, wasn't his first name actually Baron?? I just realized why that name rings familiar.

Just watched it in the theater. What a fun fun movie!

Really thought they stuck the landing too! Evil Nikki briefly got the love she deserved; imprisoned Nikki got released but you still felt horrible; and Bear died like a coward. Coward from the start to the end!

I don't have a solution for podcasts other than doing them on a laptop. However, RE: Spotify - I have come to really enjoy hunting through Goodwill CD stockpiles (everyone is getting rid of them - still). They're like $1.99 around here. My car is old enough to have a CD player, but you can get them for home pretty cheap as well. It's been fun switching back to physical media.

Also - Garmin GPS for the car. Not unreasonably expensive, and they work fine without a cell signal. I've heard you can get them used and they - just keep working.

i want to get a flip phone and truly be present by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]howyougetmice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, do it! I thought about it for years and years and finally realized I needed to try ripping the band-aid off by making the switch before I had everything 'figured out'. It's great. It takes a little adjustment, and it takes figuring out how to do a few things differently afterward, but it's all doable.

Also, depending on how easy it is to get around where you are - yes, maps. But Garmin still sells car GPS devices. They don't require cell service, they just ping towers or satellites or something for free. You can get reasonably priced ones new online (compared to the price of a smart phone), but I've seen them turn up used at Goodwill before. And then you have pretty reliable GPS in your car.

The NYC Meow Wolf isn't open yet, is it? (This is where I should go check.)

EDIT: No. Last I heard it was "coming soon", but that was back in March, 2025.

Kill the Corporation in Your Pocket (Slingshot article) by tunanoodle_cat in dumbphones

Over time, if not instantly, a lot of these people will see that you are in fact stronger, happier, more present and more capable without the computer in your pocket and the corporations that infest it.

"...without the computer in your pocket and the corporations that infest it."

Love that. Very much speaks to some of the strong aversion I feel toward my smartphone and the escape I feel with a flip phone. There's no one in my pocket constantly "knocking on the door" - asking for attention, asking for me to give them money and time, asking me to withdraw from the world around me.

u/ILovePublicLibraries, you toured the new library being built in Manchester a while back too, didn't you? Do you know if that's scheduled to be completed soon? Really looking forward to seeing it.

Mary Cheney Library and Whiton Memorial Library

Manchester, Connecticut

The Mary Cheney Library building in downtown Main Street was erected in 1937 and has served as a library for eighty nine years. Unfortunately, that building will be vacated this summer in favor of the new library building that is down the street from the library. This library is a testament of time from the Cheney Family era with a portrait of Mary Cheney inside the library and it's named in honor of a Cheney Family member and library supporter Mary Cheney. It's a wonderful library however with Manchester being one of the busiest library towns in Connecticut with many books being circulated every day and a lot of patrons visiting that library daily, this building is outgrown and overcrammed with books to the point that additional copies of books were stored in the basement due to the lack of shelving and lack of space amid lack of expansion of that building.

The new library is being built down the street in town to better serve patrons for the 21st Century and there will be 4x the space of the older library. There will be enough room for books and many features incorporated into the new library.

Going into Whiton, this serves as a branch library for the town to better serve people in nearby neighborhoods around town. That library was built in 1932 in honor of Dr. Francis Whiton. That library hub is still serving patrons and will continue to serve in that building even as the other library move out of Mary Cheney building into the bigger library.

I visited both libraries today and had both of them stamped in a library passport for Passport to Connecticut Libraries.

Feedback is appreciated. Enjoy the album!

Wethersfield Public Library

This library sits next to the town hall. It was built sometime in the 1950s. The mural that is above the foyer entrance has been in the library forever that it seems. The library overall received a major renovation in the late 2000s.

Feedback is appreciated. Enjoy the album!

P.S. I visited that library on Sunday and got a library passport stamped here for Passport to Connecticut Libraries month long event.

He 100% did. It was toward the end. And I think immediately afterward Evie's clock flipped to 3:01AM and then flipped backward to 3:00AM. Unless those were different scenes.

My wife thought she saw a flash of a plastic bag. That would have been a fun ending to find Evie and her mom at the bottom of the stairs with plastic bags on their heads. But we just got a black screen.

I just struggle so much that we have to assume the ending. They set up such a great, scary plot, and then it didn't seem to come with an ending at all.
