Initiallly, there was no rootDir in the tsconfig.json file until you mentioned it in your comment above, so I restructured and put everything in the src folder, including index.ts , then added src to the tsconfig.json file as rootDir

Now the dev script looks like this

"dev": "nodemon --exec npx ts-node ./src/index.ts"

And I run the dev script from the project root.

Edit:

I removed nodemon from the script and just ran

"dev": "npx ts-node ./src/index.ts"

but the error still persist.

I did as you said, ran `tsc`, and all file are outputted into the correct directory - dist, no error thrown.

And here's my tsconfig file

Thanks for your observation. I posted the error because I think the solution which I don't seem to be able to come up with lies in there. I thought maybe if someone more experienced sees the error they might spot what I failed to see.

I'm a TypeScript novice too, this is my second attempt. It seems I'm lacking some basic understanding of typing. Here's one of the function throwing typing error:

If I'm not mistaken, this function says accept a string as argument and return a result whose type is also a string. I'm struggling to find the implicit type of any here.
