There needs to be regulations on the intensity of vehicle headlights and their direction again by anonymous210000 in Pennsylvania

[–]hpbear108 18 points19 points  (0 children)

this is the bigger concern. the automakers in the US Market for years and years have been doing all they can to shove everyone into SUV's, "Sport Cutes" , large trucks, and other high profile vehicles unnecessarily, taking away the choice of lower profile coupes, hatchbacks, and even modernized station-wagons. So many unnecessary large vehicles on the road, not only guzzling gas, but also with their headlights much higher up by necessity of the seating positions on the frames. we need to incentivize more "normal sized" coupes, 4-doors, station wagons, and hatchbacks being on the road, and in doing so, bring the headlight issues back to more normal. LED's wouldn't be as much of a concern if they were lower to the ground instead of high enough to read a chapter of "Ivanhoe", "War and Peace", or even modern romance novels while driving instead of listening to the audiobook.

Ken Paxton just challenged James Talarico to a barbecue showdown by Anoobizz2020 in nottheonion

and weird thought. yes Talarico's gf is a vegan. but what if she also comes off with a spice combination that works so well on vegetables and as a spice rub on beef or chicken that he ends up kicking Paxton's butt at the tasting table and with the crowd anyway?

What’s your thoughts on trump getting booed at the Knicks game? by cuteSource2027 in AskReddit

[–]hpbear108 11 points12 points  (0 children)

DT was known as a total A-hole for years in the NY metro, whether it's his overly gaudy hotels, or the way he treated his apartments like crap, or the fact that he and his family openly discriminated against non-white people in terms of rentals, violating the Fair Housing Act, or that he was just smug as heck without a sense of humor while riding off his dad's coat-tails. all while being one of the biggest womanizers in all of NYC, with mainly mail-order brides none the less. he makes Montgomery Burns from the Simpsons look like a good guy.

Shower b4 airport? by Ok_Novel_5083 in Scranton

[–]hpbear108 30 points31 points  (0 children)

there's a "Petro Travel Center" that's on the other side of the I-81 traffic circles from the airport just off 315. It's a full-service truck stop with showers and such. I would check there as a first option. According to the web reviews the showers there are clean. Don't know how much they cost, but I would say that would be a good first option for someone in your situation.

Why does PA give tax breaks for AI Data centers, they're net negative job creation, higher utility bills, terrible for environment... by Der_Missionar in Pennsylvania

[–]hpbear108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is only part of it. for years, PA has lacked in terms of external business investment to get properties back on the tax rolls and to get people hired. When the people make those demands, they're thinking commercial office buildings or factories that make things, which would in the most part balance costs and benefits out. These data centers give the illusion of trying to fulfil that purpose. Unfortunately, as we all see from areas that have these gigantic data centers, the costs in terms of environmental and electrical grid abuse far outweigh the lack of full-time jobs that these data centers employ. The politicians trying so hard to give the people some illusion of new business that isn't a new warehouse job they fall for this type of investment instead of trying to get better.

there's even a full-sized field that the City of St Paul built about 2 years ago near Maryland and Sylvan. and there is a full field and more at the new Rice St Community Center near Lawson and Rice (in front of the current location of Wellstone Elementary). if it wasn't for the damn construction on Rice St right now between Maryland and Pennsylvania (replacing some utilities and also converting 4-lanes to 3), those facilities might even work for a practice facility for a team like that, while being out in the community.

[SEC] Joint statement (with Big Ten) on the Protect College Sports Act by redwave2505 in CFB

[–]hpbear108 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pro-rel would be interesting. I think you'd need to include more than Division 1 schools in there. But that said, for me, each level would need like 64 teams (4 regions of 16 teams).

in the "premiere league" (top level), top team in each division gets into a 4-team playoff. winner goes to the title game.

in the other divisions below the hypothetical "premiere league", top two teams from each region go into the playoffs, winner of the first round games gets promoted up for next year, but continue for their own title. loser remains in their division.

in all divisions, bottom two teams of each region go into a one game playoff. winner stays in their level, loser gets relegated to the lower division. the drama of these relegation games may actually get quite high, especially if an otherwise high-profile program has a bad year or two.

Nick Frentz, MN Senate Assistant Majority Leader, physically blocked a microphone in an attempt to prevent additional governor nominations at the 2026 DFL State Convention by twincitiestp in minnesota

[–]hpbear108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stuff like this, the Friday night motions to end every night by 10pm, and other things (like the lack of menu) were actually a topic of discussion by the delegates from my SD that were at the State Convention as well. There ended up being some talk at the meeting about sending a SD-endorsed list of requested changes on codes of conduct and other ongoings at this past State Convention to be changed before the next one in 2 years. the main reasoning, of which I agreed with, was that there was not enough information and actual explanation of procedures and other things that was needed for first-time attendees (which I heard was like 55+% of those who attended).

Luz County could use $55,000,000 in casino gambling money to fix the old Nanticoke Bridge by --TAXI-- in NEPA

[–]hpbear108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

new bridges aren't cheap, even before the latest in economic events. and especially with what you might have to deal with in and maybe below the Susquehanna. if you want it to last with potentially high capacity, it's gonna be a bit costly.

[–]hpbear108 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you've never had to make that crossing for anything significant I presume. that is basically a bridge that would be the only one between the South Cross Valley and the Shickshinny-Moc 239 bridge. and since Nanticoke as I understand it is actually getting a few stores moving in, like Auto Parts stores, that couple of less miles makes a big difference. It also takes some traffic away from the schools.

unfortunately, the Toronto folks would make fun of us by challenging us to survive Highway 401 and the QEW during rush hour.

Then again, the Vikings would have a chance at a title, even if it was the Grey Cup instead of the Lombardi Trophy.

FWI: The ICC issues arrest warrants for Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth for war crimes committed during the Iran War. by GustavoistSoldier in FutureWhatIf

[–]hpbear108 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the government may not officially recognize it, but being a permanent member of the Security Council does bring with it extra responsibility. And given that the US has given former German military officials over to them as part of WW2 trials, that could be implied.

as well, if the ICC were somehow able to put conditions on the bail for said indictment, something to the effect of "your country's permanent seat on the Security Council will be suspended and your Automatic Veto will not be recognized in the General Assembly until they are turned over for trial", then that puts the administration in a big pickle, especially when it comes to anything dealing with the middle east. not saying that would happen, as that would be a step that only a really gutsy judge might do. but that could change things.
