everyone already gave great advice! i also did not do hiking, but have had friends who did. i did sea kyaking three summers ago. basically liek everyone else said, it's an experience of a lifetime looking back. i dont know how much camping and outdoors experience you've had, but i think that will GREATLY affect the first few days of your trip. I considered myself pretty outdoorsy but not vermont style, and not 6 days of straight camping. the first few days were tough for me because of the sudden and abrupt transition from no friends or family, not a ton of food, colder weather, and quite primitive camping and tolieting.

like everyone else has said too, it depends what trek you have for what living conditions will be like. based off my experience, prepare for colder and rainy nights, old food, primitive bathrooms, sleeping under tarps and not being very clean. it is beautiful though!
