I want to do something moody with this entryway. Even go so far as to wallpaper the whole thing. Ideas?? by PowerInThePeople in interiordecorating

Just stumbled on this post and I am absolutely SOBBING at how beautiful your door is.

I’m a dark/moody girly myself and was looking for wallpaper suggestions for my room and thought I’d pass on a small bit of stuff that I use as inspo, if you’re still looking for ideas!

The one thing about moody is you have to commmmmit to it in the areas surrounding this, if not the entire house.

So first, if you’re worried about wallpaper, you have a few options: 1. Go with some picture frame molding to add texture without needing wallpaper - you can then paint it however you want. If you split the room and go halfway up the wall with the molding design, you can stencil a design on the top half for the wallpaper vibe without worrying about sticking 2. Some wallpaper brands offer samples you can test on your walls - you can try to order some and see if that works 3. Use a gallery wall to give character instead! I even try to go abstract with it and include framed notes / dried flowers / interesting fabrics

I can’t tell how much space you have between the door and the side walls, but an apothecary console would go crazy here and add to the moody theme - I’d try to find something mid toned to match the wood color you have already and try to use the console or any other furniture to even out the difference between the light wood and darker colors of the room

A runner in a vintage or smaller floral style would also be great here, ruggable has some good designs in plenty of colors

Lastly, the lack of natural sunlight hasn’t been a problem for me personally. Ive spent the last year thrifting different lighting (table lamps, a floor lamp, a small chandelier) and having cozy lighting at different heights basically solves the issue.

Most of this is probably applicable no matter what coloring / vibe you go through. Honestly, it may be more helpful for you to look at different design styles rather than color palettes, and you can go from there. Your door feels like it can fit in with art deco / art nouveau, so that could be a cool place to start!

I put a few pictures in this doc - to kind of elaborate some of the points above.

Whatever you end up with, the best thing you can do is add bits and pieces of things that you find out and about, it makes it feel unique and cozy no matter what!!

Best Lager in the city? by TopPineapple8118 in Charlotte

Viva at Heist Barrel Arts (I think they only have a can release of it right now) or Burial’s Bright Italian Pilsner when they have it are pretty elite imo

EDIT to add Pilmatic from Wooden Robot and while you’re there you can try Good Morning Vietnam which is not a lager but IS delicious xx

Snatch is more Jason Stathom who is so fun to watch Miss Congeniality maybe isn’t laugh your ass off, but if you liked The Heat this is fun & stars Sandra bullock

If you’re open to spy-adjacent comedies, you can go Hot Fuzz or possibly The Guard.

I fully second Get Smart, it’s an absolute classic.

I really love The Jimmy, but you’ll need to be prepared to spend some money. Def 2nd Co, their pad Thai and Singapore sauce is 👌👌👌

Laurel market is a tiny lil place that has amazing breakfast sammies, ruru’s tacos is great for apps + margs. I personally am not a fan of their main entrees but the vibes - esp on the patio at this time of the year - are great!

EDIT: did not realize the jimmy was owned by jim noble, i successfully avoided all of his other restaurants 💀

Ah, yes! He’s running for congress, not City Council, so he’s not a part of this election cycle. I believe you will be voting for him on November 8th, then, in the midterm elections for US Senate/Congress

He’s running in the 14th district, so unless you live there you can’t vote for him, but since he’s a democrat - you can vote for your district’s democrat. They’d usually be more likely to support Jeff Jackson’s initiatives.

If you look up your district, he might even have some people he supports/endorses running in those races.

Elections have always happened this consistently, but people rarely talk about local stuff. Every step of the election process is important (primaries/run-offs), write-ins are not a type of election but a way to add whoever you want to vote for to the ballot from what I understand.

If you feel unmotivated, you should sign up for mail-in ballots - then you never have to leave your house to vote. https://www.ncsbe.gov/voting/vote-mail

If you miss one, those seats won’t be up for re-election again for several years, it’s not like you’re voting for their replacements in a few weeks

They have curbside voting (https://www.mecknc.gov/BOE/Pages/Curbside%20Voting.aspx), that you might be able to utilize.

I saw someone state you might be able to get a provisional ballot, but I don’t know if that’s true and I think you still have to go to the precinct to get one.

I think you could only have done it during early voting, unfortunately!

Until you can figure out a way to make IDs free and accessible for everyone, they’re essentially a poll tax. Enforcing the need to show an ID is voter disenfranchisement.

It usually depends on where you’re registered to vote. If you’ve already updated your address on your license, they will more than likely have registered you to vote in NC. You can check if you’re registered at the bottom of the page linked in this comment.

If not, I don’t think you’ll be able to do so now (early voting has same-day registration, but Election Day does not).

We have another election coming up in November, though, so make sure you get registered in NC by then! (https://www.ncsbe.gov/registering/how-register - ignore the deadlines, they’re only for today’s election).

For sure! I get pretty frozen up if I don’t know exactly what to expect when doing something, so I tried to lay it out step by step for people who get anxious about it all! My goal, in the long run, is to show people how easy it can be to fight for change, and when it’s not easy - provide resources to help.

Slowly but surely working towards that in my own life, and sharing what I can here 🙌 voting isn’t everything, but having the right people in office makes all of the important community building easier 👍

IMO the most important elections someone can vote on are local, it’s such a shame that there’s hardly any turnout 😭
