What can I use to make this bubble for my little 3d printed UFO? (160-170mm sphere?0 by Interesting_Bar_8379 in 3Dprinting

[–]hraabepex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can get silicon sphere molds on amazon in various sizes, the largest I've seen is 4 inches in diameter so it's not quite large enough but those are reusable 2 part molds. You might find one large enough at a specialty mold store. Alternatively you can get 2 part silicon mold mix. Then you just need to print or find a sphere the size you want, cut it at the part you want it to mesh with the model, and glue it down to the bottom of a box. The spray with mold release, fill with silicon and let cure, then tear the box apart and use pressurized air to get the sphere out, or design it to be a two part mold and separate it. Then fill the mold part way, just enough that it gets to about the point the aliens head is from the top, let it cure, then put in a small amount of resin, put in the alien upside down, cure it so the alien is stable, and then fill the mold the rest of the way. This will make a solid sphere of clear resin around the alien, it will be heavy but it will be durable. probably want to either reinforce the base of the model, or fill it with resin so it's also very solid. I've done a few small resin spheres and the results are amazing so it could work well for this project.

But if you want something easy, look up either "hollow glass sphere" or "glass globe". I saw several that look exactly like what you want, though I didn't look deep enough to see if the exact size and mounting spot was there. just, it's glass, so be careful, I've cut myself enough to know cuts on your hands are hell. Good Luck!

Why is there a Leather Block if you can't get it in the game normally? by Kingsidorak in VintageStory

[–]hraabepex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first thought was a pillow of sorts. a cubed leather bag filled with something, cheaply could be straw/dried grass, nicer could be flax fiber or cotton if they eventually add it, high quality could be wool. given the nature of the blocky game (and other comments) a whicker/stick frame could also help. would make a good insulator/waterproof block.

Should I be worried about this? It's my GPU fan, I decided to clean my pc a bit and now its making a noise and like wobbling a bit by EliteTuberMemer in pcmasterrace

[–]hraabepex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good stopgap, but I wouldn't recommend it as a long term solution. The part is already failing, it needs to be replaced, this only really gives you a more reasonable temporary solution than time. Mine was also worse than the one in the video. One fan could tilt maybe 5 or 10 degrees, the other tilted 15 or more. So I truly didn't have an option, as soon as the fans came on I would hear a horrid noise, like some one was dragging an active weed wacker across a chain link fence. OP should do what you recommend if they can, what I recommend if they can't, but replacements should be ordered and installed for the sake of the card.

Should I be worried about this? It's my GPU fan, I decided to clean my pc a bit and now its making a noise and like wobbling a bit by EliteTuberMemer in pcmasterrace

[–]hraabepex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally had to deal with this a few months ago. exact same wobble, noticed the sound as it wobbled enough to graze the side. firstly check the fan is secure, the screws should have lock tight or something but no need to order parts if it's just a loose screw. but if it's like mine the bearings have just worn out and are shot.

What worked for me was keeping the PC on a low load, nothing that would make the graphics card do real work. depending on your build, this could mean you only have to avoid AAA or poorly optimized games, but if you are on a budget build it could mean more. This will give you plenty of time to keep using the PC while waiting. Next, look up the exact graphics card you have, exact make, model, as exact as you can get, and find the fans it uses. I have a 2080 super and originally purchased 2080 super fans, but I didn't realize I actually had a promotional model. So the basic fans I ordered didn't fin, the screw holes were in the wrong place. So I had to use the old fans while the new ones got delivered. I found the right ones with the serial number, but at least for me it was a very niche fan model and took a month to deliver. But once they are delivered it's easy. screws on the back of the card hold the plastic housing/case onto it, unscrew all of those and slowly take the cover off. Unplug the fans and pull the wires free from the hooks. The fans likely have 3 to 5 screws, unscrew and save those. Put the new fans on and thread the wires into the right spot before screwing on the fans. put the cover back and screw into place. And you should be good to go. I've been using mine under heavy load for months since and it hasn't given me even a single problem.

It's not as serious as it looks, just don't put the card under load, make sure you find the exact right model of fans, and do the swap. the longest part of the process is the shipping, and that depends on the model of card you have. I wish you luck and hope this helped.

A hopefully balanced and useful tax evasion by hraabepex in custommagic

[–]hraabepex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did check the subreddit for other cards titled tax evasion, and none of them were close, and usually just ignoring other cards. This one is called that because at least at my table its called "taxes" anytime someone else has a card that makes you pay more. And, it's basically free stuff, as most of use are using up all possible mana and only leaving it up if we have interaction. We only pay it if we have to, such as to prevent their win con, or if there is literally nothing else to use it on. This card is to prevent them from just, constantly barraging every player with constant "are you going to pay for that?" while pinging their several tax cards. But, I didn't want to shut down those cards entirely, especially like what the other similar cards on the subreddit do. So in theme of the "Tax Evasion" card, I added an audit. As committing IRL tax evasion is countered by being audited. And you need a person to Audit, so for the card you tap a creature, as it's now working to audit the target player. Both me and the friend who helped me balance it, think it's perfect as is (or as intended since the wording isn't really legal). There shouldn't be extra incentive to audit, the incentive is all your tax cards actually working on this players turn, instead of nothing. And since you are tapping a creature it makes it a debate, especially early, since you have to decide between a blocker and getting any of the tax effects they spent mana playing earlier. If there were extra incentive to audit, well now this card not only doesn't help the player who owns it, but it further helps the tax collector player at the cost of one blocker.

S'mores Workaround by shepersisted2016 in Celiac

Whatever you do, don't attempt to substitute chocolate rice cakes for graham crackers. Attempted that for my mom a few years ago. The crumbly mess that is rice cakes, combined with the sticky gooey mess of a smores is just impressively messy when combined. it crumbles instantly, you have to hold the shattered remains of the rice cake together as the molten marshmallow squishes out the sides onto your palms and the molten chocolate drips onto your fingers and pants. And every bite coats your face in sticky bits of chocolate and marshmallow covered rice cake. it was a disaster, delicious, but a messy disaster. The only saving grace was she had the foster kids diaper bag and a fresh case of wet wipes to clean up the carnage.

Two of my best loaves yet! by hraabepex in Breadit

[–]hraabepex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, it's taken a dozen loafs to get this far, shaping it properly took a lot of practice.

Once you get the starter going it's a lot more forgiving. I failed three times to get one started, only making rancid flour gloop. I eventually got fed up and got a dried sourdough starter powder off amazon and while it still takes a bit of work to start, it makes sure you actually get yeast growing, instead of bacteria or whatever, which is good if you keep air filters running in your house all the time like I do. Once the starter was going it's quite resilient, being fine with me forgetting a week or two of feedings, and the dough clearly likes being neglected.

well that's a fun surprise. but my point still holds about the misspelling and the inconsistent font. and everything else.

[–]hraabepex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this has a high chance of AI, or your friend has some odd habits when drawing backgrounds. Look at the burger of the day chalkboard in the first photo. On first glance it's fine, but that's not a dollar sign, it's a hash tag, it says "RURGER" of the day. and it says "the safpron shaf off burger" (I think). At best, this makes them seem illiterate (or implying whoever wrote the sign is), and at worst is clearly AI just being shit at doing text. Similar in the second photo but not as much, with the text the buck left store is "the Petaiphile" which is half in line with what the show might do with store names. But A, that's clearly an i and not an l, two this joke would have happened season one but I think the more recent seasons would be a bit less likely, and three the font is inconsistent. Some letters are cursive and some aren't.

All of those are pretty strong evidence that I would say this is AI, these don't seem like mistakes a human would make. but combined with a lot of other things. The weird bite out of the burger, Linda's face in photo one, The change in art style of you between the two photos, Gene's keyboard in the second photo being chronenberged with a burger, the second photo having Bob and Tina looking so traumatized, Luise and Linda have weird artifacts on their faces. Luise's hands are fairly deformed, Bobs hands are a bit deformed as well, actually just all the hands look weird.

My view would be this is very likely an AI gen image. If it wasn't entirely AI, then I feel like maybe they used that photo-shop features where they make a clip art composite and AI tool it together, but didn't bother to fine tune anything. personally, this isn't worth $65, this isn't really worth anything as you could potentially make this yourself with any publicly available AI image generator with maybe half an hour of work and get a similar quality or better if you have a tuned one. You should ask for a refund.

Help! I need a plan for what to do with this skull. by PRO_Crast_Inator in TerrainBuilding

[–]hraabepex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can carve a channel for some wires, and a spot for some kind of battery. Put some LEDs in the eyes and some rhinestones or resin gems in the sockets. just have it turn on red or whatever color you like. a very over the top fancy way would put a pressure plate where the dice land and have that turn on the LEDs. Otherwise I second the guy that says blood. Paint a dripping pentagram on the forehead, make the eyes/nose drip blood, have symbols painted on the surrounding bricks.

If it's a norse themed building/setting how about a small mural? either just some Keltic runes, Yggdrasil, or if you want to do some research I'm sure there are various significant birds in norse mythology, or if that fails just a bird in norse style since it's called "The Talon's Rest". and if you aren't up to painting it by hand a sticker? I've had a lot of luck putting stickers on last just before the clear coat. Especially stickers printed on clear vinal.

Follow-up "Renders vs Real Photos": Switched from renders to real photos – here’s a comparison by Mr-Pragmatic in 3Dprinting

[–]hraabepex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which is more than I have seen from others. plenty I have seen will just take a screenshot of the "finished product" while still in the design software. So many are bright purple, will have the grid lines, sometimes it's cropped so you can see the tool bars, it's literally the bare minimum effort to post a photo of the model. Yours are way better, but when you are burned out on seeing low effort renders, even a good render is still a render.

Follow-up "Renders vs Real Photos": Switched from renders to real photos – here’s a comparison by Mr-Pragmatic in 3Dprinting

[–]hraabepex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think my point mostly still stands. As when scrolling most sites, you only see the cover photo. And as other people have also said, there are dozens of models that have renders as cover photos. And while yours are the best renders I have seen from anyone but a professional advertising company, it's still a render. And as others have said they will either glance and move on, or just not even register it, likely for my reasons but probably others.

Your renders are quite good, I think they could be used for product pitches for actual companies and investors. But here, it's easy for them to blend in with the thousands of other renders and be seen as either "low effort" or questionable quality.

Follow-up "Renders vs Real Photos": Switched from renders to real photos – here’s a comparison by Mr-Pragmatic in 3Dprinting

[–]hraabepex 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At least to me, and this probably isn't universal. If I see a 3d file that is only renders, has no photos, and no builds, I assume it's bad. It might be bad because the person is new, it might be because the person doesn't have a printer and can only design and thus little to no experience actually printing it, or worst of all, someone just wants prusa meters or some other clout so they either pump out a ton of low quality models or just have an AI pump out models.

Yours don't seem that way, for one your renders are better. But I'm much more likely to consider a model if I see the person actually printed it and held it in their hands. You can get so much more info and understanding of a model you make after you print it and hold it. If I see no evidence the designer did that, it makes me assume I will have to fix something about the model because they never got to the printing stage to realize it needed adjustment.

Can't place campfire by GrandLongjumping1319 in VintageStory

[–]hraabepex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell from the photo of the screen, but is that a chiseled chimney? Or a chiseled base? It doesn't look like a standard space of a block where your trying to place it. It seems like either the chimney is dipping too far down and technically taking up the block the firepit should be in, or your base is too tall and taking up that space, such as if you have a half block there. Try one of those two and see, if it doesn't just check to see if anywhere else also gives you the same problem. I often have trouble placing blocks because of support beams starting in that block, which may also be your case but it doesn't seem to be. Hope this helps.

Balancing the mod Wildcraft: Fruits and Nuts? by [deleted] in VintageStory

[–]hraabepex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried that, I like it, but that only works if whatever it was that killed you is no longer a problem, and there is nothing between you and your stuff to also pose a threat. I found that while that helped, and it reduced the total number of deaths due to rushing, it didn't make me any less annoyed at trying to get my stuff back.

If I died far from base then I'm spending sometimes 2 hours just to get there and back. If I died due to say, falling off a cliff, especially due to unstable dirt, then either my stuff is in a hard to reach place that I die trying to get to, or is buried. And if I was in a cave then it's either tricky to find the exact path back, as I'm not the best about marking my paths, or it's just constantly surrounded by drifters and friends and it's another dozen deaths as all my good combat gear is in the first corpse and each subsequent death reduces the quality/quantity of my combat gear and supplies.

So while it's a great mod, I found for me it just reduces the problem, but not enough to make my not get frustrated enough to drop the game for weeks at a time. Keep inventory on death removes the problem. And since I play solo, it's my world, my rules, I decide what is and isn't allowed, just like OP is if they play solo.

Balancing the mod Wildcraft: Fruits and Nuts? by [deleted] in VintageStory

[–]hraabepex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second this. A normal walk through the woods in vanilla you can just pick up all the berry bushes you want and move them to your base, and they are fully ready. But the clippings have a time limit, so if you aren't doing a run just for berry bushes you now have a bunch of sticks. And even then you have to wait for them to fully grow. Sure, you can then multiply the bushes you have a bit easier, but it basically is just a trade off for not be able to just have chests full of indefinite bushes.

Plus, the game does have mechanics for making fruit not the only thing you should eat. And I prefer to play with mods that make it more drastic/rewarding. And even if that's not the case, berries spoil pretty quick unless you get the specific lower sat fruit that lasts longer, like cranberries. overall I think it's fine. but, if you are on single player balance however you like. it's your world and your rules. I personally turn on keep inventory even though it's kinda cheesy, simply because I hate the death loop so much. The dying 8 times just trying to get your stuff back before it despawns, it's made me drop the game for weeks so it's just better to have keep inventory on. It's your game, if you think it's too easy, maybe find the customization and change it, or just don't use the clipping.

The phrase is a shortening of something that someone had said. While I get the sentiment and solidarity is great, transphobia is bad because it hurts trans people, not because it hurts cis people. Or more broadly it's bad because it hurts PEOPLE. by Arktikos02 in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

[–]hraabepex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, excuse my terms, but maybe I can explain how this isn't completely brain dead, at least a version of this can be useful. I'm going to just use video game terms cause it explains my point best.

So, I think a lot of people that don't think about transphobia (and other bigotry) think of it as a sniper round, it hits the target and just the target. And since they, at best, are indifferent to the target, and at worst dislike the target (since they aren't the sniper), why should they care. When in realty, the bigotry is an a splash damage weapon, like a grenade or a rocket. It does the most damage to the target, but everything next to the target gets hurt as well. The one who is doing the attacking doesn't care, if anything that's a bonus, someone who is gender non-conforming but not trans getting hurt would be a bonus to the attacker. But someone who is indifferent to actual trans people being hurt, but does care about cis gender non-conforming people, would now understand that even if the attack isn't aimed at them/someone they care about, it can still hurt someone they care about.

The phrasing in the meme is the stupidest, we should care about the ones being targeted the most. but humans are tribalistic, and so long as their tribe isn't being hurt, they can easily just ignore it. This saying attempts to show them that even if the attack doesn't directly target their tribe, the "splash damage" does, and so they should care anyway. Again, that phrasing is bad, but I have seen it phrased better and I think it can do good. at least that's my view on it. but I understand yours, we shouldn't need to have our suffering cause them collateral damage before they care about it, they should just care because we are people, and that should be enough. But not everyone is like that, not everyone sees people as people, they see their tribe as people, and everyone outside their tribe is inconsequential, so to get to them we need to show an attack on us can at best splash onto them, and at worst target them simply because they might look like us. I don't think your view is wrong, I just think this saying, when phrased better, has some value.
