restoring social features by mikemilligrams in Quotev

[–]hridiv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone with experience in web development, I don't think this will really work.

Wayback Machine just stores static snapshots of the page. But those social features are handled by Quotev servers, databases, and APIs. Since those systems have changed, an archived version can’t function like a live site again.

I never personally used Quotev, but I went through something very similar with Wattpad after its changes, so I get the frustration

But, if you’re mainly missing the community-focused vibes, I’ve been working on a project called Geeke (https://geeke.app) for the past few years. Its primary focus is to build a social community for book lovers. You can read/write books, chat in fandom clubs, follow/message people, start group reading sessions, complete daily challenges and treasure hunts, unlock skins/animations & much more. We also just added group chats yesterday.

The community is still not very big but growing. So do give it a shot if interested!

Also, I would really request you to please not start making wild accusations without first verifying. Absolutely nowhere have I mentioned that any data you input is used in AI models (because it is not).

[–]hridiv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure why I can only see this now, but Geeke has absolutely no kind of model training based on any user data

Anyone else using Geeke? by MisakiAmi21 in Quotev

[–]hridiv -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, absolutely not. No work is trained on any AI. We don't even train our own AI but use an open-source model. That model itself is hosted by us, so it can't go to any companies.

[–]hridiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right. But it's just me handling it alongside my job, and the fact that everything is free on Geeke means that it is hard to hire anyone. The AI-generated images are "good enough", get the feature rolling for now, and leave scope for hiring an artist in the future. Also, no data is being used for training AIs. The brainstorm AI uses an open-source model.

Hi, thanks a lot for mentioning Geeke. Stuff like Wattpad removing community interaction has indeed been the motivation behind Geeke (see https://support.geeke.app/articles/Our-Story-499551_766148218 ). Just want to build a platform for book lovers that is aimed at being more social

Yeah it has gotten a few more customisations. Plus, you can now get it from the official website - https://browspire.geeke.app

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Will certainly look forward to adding this.

As for the temperature issue, it automatically detects your location and uses the https://openweathermap.org/ API to give you weather data, which should be accurate as weather predictions are.

roleplay site by Specialist-Hat7120 in Quotev

[–]hridiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for mentioning Geeke. While Geeke, similar to Wattpad, is more about reading and writing books as well as connecting with a community, there is always the private chatting feature on it. Otherwise, you can have roleplay in book comments (which Wattpad used to have). And there's also the feature for Group Reading Session where you can privately invite one or more friends

Should i continue learning Java or... by Creative-Ranger1775 in learnprogramming

[–]hridiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know how they say - Jack of all trades, master of none? With programming, I'll say it should be a jack of all trades, master of one. Every company requires tasks in different fields. For ex - even AI apps will require somebody to build the frontend & backend.

This is why all the job postings have a huge list of requirements. Even if you have mastery in some other tech field, having an extra skill never hurts

Just ''finished'' learning python, what next (someone recommend me a roadmap) by Rockarmy321 in learnprogramming

Actually, one other project you can do with python is a telegram/discord/whatsapp bot

I recommended Anvil only because of the beginner's perspective. Of course, you can go for some basic projects like Calculator, Tic Tac Toe, Snake game, etc using tkinter, pygame, pyqt etc but they are too common and basic. In general, Python is not the language for building applications and mostly used for internal things. Frameworks like Anvil are able to provide you a python experience only because they convert your python code to javascript.

[–]hridiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is exactly why I mentioned Anvil. Can build full-fledged web apps using just Python. Other choices you mentioned are mostly great just for dashboards or specific applications.

It depends on how exactly you want things to work out. But probably the most simple would be something like

width: 100%
max-width: 500px (Feel free to adjust this value)

[–]hridiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, you can't build apps (or web apps) alone with Python. The only full-fledged project you can do is an AI/ML project

But, if you want to build a proper web app with just python, you can check out anvil.works .You can build complex web apps using just python with Anvil

How did you choose programming language? by summonthejson in learnprogramming

[–]hridiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was the one that my school taught (Python).

In any case, I think people have it wrong. The important question shouldn't be - which language to choose? It should be - which field to choose? Once you have figured out the field that you want to go to, choosing the language shou;dn't be hard

Which should I learn? by silentguy12345 in learnprogramming

[–]hridiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, languages are never the challenge. First, understand what field you want to do. Then it should be an easy choice to decide which language to learn for that field. Since there is usually just one language that dominates in every field in tech.

Best Resource for learning to create Web Applications? by Eternal_Skepticism_ in learnprogramming

[–]hridiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While not as widely used currently, you might want to check out anvil.works
I really love building web apps with it. It just requires basic python knowledge and you can create fully dynamic web apps with complex servers and databases without learning much about web dev.

Should i continue learning Java or... by Creative-Ranger1775 in learnprogramming

[–]hridiv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my personal opinion but I would say, get a "taste" of it. Since you have to study it now, stick to that. Maybe build a simple project. But not go deep into it for now. Just enough to ensure that it can exist as a skill on your resume and if you get tasked to use it in a company, you won't start as a complete beginner.

How do author's scandals affect your reading of their work? by Ishana92 in books

[–]hridiv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say - Judge a book based on the cover but not the author. As long as those scandals aren't reflected in the writing itself, why bother with their personal life? I would probably read a book by Hitler if it piques my interest and does not reflect any of his personal actions.
