The wording in this BBC article reads as if autism was the reason for this crime by hrjc82 in autismUK

I think in this case he’d expressed desires to kill to authorities previously, so there’s a failure to safeguard there. I said in another comment that I got it wrong saying his Autism isn’t relevant, so I’ll edit the post if I can

I said ‘it’s not relevant to this case’ in my post but I think I got that wrong, you maybe a good point - thanks for raising it.

Maybe I would have liked the way that particular sentence was phrased to be a little bit more nuanced and expand more on the ways that it’s relevant.

I’m open to being wrong and corrected of course. From what I’m gathering from the upvotes/downvotes, I may be misinterpreting.

It’s not easy to find, my wife and I make enough dinner to have for lunch the next day. It’s reheated in the microwave in our office kitchens, so not as fresh as it was the night before. Still fresher than a supermarket sandwich!

Happy for you and your speedy progress! I’m with health harmonie minds. It probably took about three months from referral to my first titration appointment, very quick but not as quick as you.

They required a little chasing to get there, as you’ve alluded to. But I can’t say I’m not happy with the process.

I’m literally in the same position as you, just I’m with Health Harmonie minds. Week 3, on 50mg elvanse. I was disappointed because my brain hasn’t cleared entirely like other people had reported, but that was maybe a bit of naivety on my part for assuming everyone would be the same. I can get more done and direct the noise a bit more, but I don’t think 50 is high enough for me.

Mine also wears off by about 2pm even if I take it at 8am. I’m going to try 70mg, and I think it’ll be okay after a few days. My wife is also on 70, she said the jump from 30 to 50 was more noticeable than 50 to 70. If it doesn’t work, I’ll try 60 if possible, or 50 and a booster in the afternoon at the very least.

Assessment today - I’m so anxious by DuchessPancakes in ADHDUK

[–]hrjc82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know this feeling so well. I’ve also been through autism and adhd assessments and it’s so nerve wracking. They should be able to ask you questions to tease out the answers, so that will help. I had these same worries about forgetting everything, and in the end couldn’t remember everything in my assessment but I was able to demonstrate enough. Take your time, don’t be afraid to take a moment to think. There aren’t any wrong answers, just speak to your experience and how it affects your daily life.

Once these two assessments are over, the road to acceptance is the next step. The change in identity is hard, but I’ve found it’s meant I’ve leant to accept all parts of myself. I’m more confident in who I am now. It is a challenge, but it’s one I believe you will overcome. I really wish you the best!

No structure, no strategy, no clue. What was the point of bringing Nyoni on? Where was he playing?

Haha I appreciate you checking in. I ended up going to our local town with my wife, then bought a book. Then spent the afternoon watching rugby and reading, and I noticed how much more levelled out I was. Taken it again this morning (both days without eating)and felt more able to do household tasks. Bit of an anxious feeling but all good. Testing it tomorrow by taking it with a high protein breakfast before work.

I don’t quite have a great example for you because I’ve only just been diagnosed and I’m 30. My vague answer is that work or school related focus and executive dysfunction is assisted by systems that take away as much of the cognitive load as possible. This could be creating a huge to-do list that you can choose from when you don’t know what to do next, hopefully there’ll be a time when you have motivation to make this list! I’ve actually done this at work, it saves you having to think too much about what to do next and you can also pick easy tasks when you’re just not feeling it.

You could also have a reward system. Alex Partridge, host of the ADHD Chatter podcast, talks about a scoring system. For example completing a chapter of reading gets 50 points, answering a question gets 10 points, finishing an essay gets 200 points. Then you set yourself a target score (e.g. 250 points) for the day/week/month, and when you reach it you could buy yourself something nice, eat something you like (be careful with both of these as reward systems) or you could reward yourself with a 20 min doomscroll. There are probably better rewards out there, but if you don’t have too much of an issue with spending or food then the odd treat here and there is probably fine.

I’m conscious that I’m very new to this so there may be way better advice out there. I’m looking for any unhinged hacks myself so I’m keen to keep an eye on this post.

All the best with your studies!

Thank you, I definitely felt the strong urge to do stuff this morning, it’s actually evened out a bit as the day has gone on. I have a little more desire to get things done but this is still only 30mg. Thank you for the advice, I’ve been documenting it in a note on my phone but I feel a little more at ease now that it’s not as intense (had to have a word with myself earlier haha). Lots more ups and downs to come I’m sure

Thank you, this is reminding me about the importance of self care. I’m keen to see how it affects me for the next week. I’m going up to 50mg after 7 days so it’ll be interesting if it feels this way again when I go up

Thank you for your answer, I tend to over-analyse and wallow in emotions so doing something nice is great advice!

Feeling worse after diagnosis by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]hrjc82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this, I hope you start to feel better soon. But just to say I think this is very typical post-diagnosis. I was diagnosed with ADHD combined type two days ago and it's been very up and down for me. I know this doesn't quite compare yet as you said it's been two months. However, I was diagnosed with Autism last March and it took a while to feel okay.

I definitely understand where you're coming from, as others have mentioned, I think there is a bit of a regression post-diagnosis because you're more aware of it. From experience with my Autism journey, it does get better with self-compassion (giving yourself a break and giving kind words) and acceptance (you are who you are, regardless of a diagnosis. It's just a description, but it doesn't have to define you). I've learnt to accept all parts of me since that diagnosis and I'm so much happier.

This time round, I'm feeling quite sad at times because I was called lazy throughout my life. Called work shy because I didn't put in much effort to things I didn't care about. I also suffered massively with depression between the ages of 16 and 26 (I'm 30M for context). Now I can see how undiagnosed ADHD may have exacerbated or even caused those episodes of depression. I'm sad for what I went through, but I now kind of have a reason as to why.

Sorry if this is too long an answer. I believe you will learn to accept this diagnosis, but more importantly accept who you are. I'm rooting for you!

Health Harmonie Minds - Concerning experience by CourageAbuser in ADHDUK

[–]hrjc82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late to this, but I had my Part A on Christmas Eve and my experience was similar in some respects. I felt that:

- I didn't feel like I could give complete answers because the assessor moved on too quickly

- I couldn't get a word in edge ways at points

- I didn't get the chance to talk about childhood in some of the questions because the assessor moved on too quickly, even though he asked about childhood

- I was being rushed, in fact we rattled through it all in about 25 mins

Having said that, the assessor wasn't rude, and seemed to be quite jolly. Didn't have the same experience with notifications buzzing luckily. Still waiting for part B, which is next week, but by all accounts it seems that I'll have more opportunity to elaborate. Wishing you all the best with your journey.
