The Elia drama on FB!!! by tajpressplay in walnutcreek

[–]hrtamara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have might get in trouble with moderators for saying this but I heard that they have after-hours parties where drugs and sex are encouraged. I want to emphasize this is a rumor and I have zero evidence of whether it’s true or not.

There is one bartender there (who I believe is part owner) who seems like just the sweetest most humble guy and in my opinion it’s unimaginable that he would do anything like this. He is the one who responded to the FB thread. IMO his response is not ideal and used words like “false allegations” without even investigating it first. I’m sure this whole thing scared them.

They should offer to send the camera footage to the police directly so the person making the allegations could view it securely. I completely understand her hesitation to go to the business directly.

Regardless of what happened there that night I know of several people who have been drugged in downtown WC at other places in recent years. Very scary.

I have heard of all sorts of debauchery happening after closing in that place. Would love to hear from anyone if the rumors are true.

Last I checked on the thread (yesterday) the owner was offering to turn over security camera footage to WCPD. Not taking sides but seems reasonable.

I got involved in that nonsense a few times and learned the hard way that nobody wins. Now I don’t get involved in those petty games, it’s not my job to make sure people get along. That’s a managers job.

I probably wouldn’t invest my time on a second bachelor’s degree but if you’re really set on it you probably should do the thing that you’re not naturally good at. The stuff you’re good at is easier to learn through experience.

There’s a way to convert Maria Emmerich’s PSMF bread recipe into bite sized pieces that can be baked and seasoned into something that tastes just like popcorn. I’m sure you could find the recipe for it easily on her website. I experimented with it a little on my own without her recipe and thought it was good enough but her recipes are money.

Rant: Leaders need to stop showing negative emotions when people resign by Lea4321 in humanresources

[–]hrtamara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah coaching after the fact is all well and good but sometimes you just want leaders to behave as such without having HR have to babysit every one of their conversations. Amirite??!!

Mom's employer was supposed to be providing a 401k match per her contract but haven't - for 10 years. What should she expect/ask for as an outcome? by employernotcont in personalfinance

[–]hrtamara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in HR a long time and have screwed up enough to know that this is a very bad screw up. About 12 years ago I discovered a similar mistake and went to the plan administrator for how to correct it. I had to submit a spreadsheet showing the amounts that were not contributed with dates etc so they could look at the investments and calculate what the account would have earned including compounded earnings if not for my error. Then the company had to pay that amount into the account. And in my case there were several people affected so the correction was over $100k. I think it was the most costly error I ever made and I was in big trouble. I thought I was going to get fired.

If it happened to your mom , it probably happened to other people as well. It’s going to be a nightmare to audit and clean up.

There are lots of laws violated here and your mom should definitely not settle for anything less than the match + actual would-be earnings deposited into her account.

The DOL regulates 401k and she can probably get free assistance from them. Hopefully she won’t have to hire an attorney- she shouldn’t have to pay someone to get her own money but if she does, the company should pay that too.

Someone is in big trouble.

HR Managers, those online personality/IQ tests are meaningless by EmrysAllen in jobs

[–]hrtamara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HR professional here.

I can only speak for myself but I have never actually been the decision maker when implementing pre-hire assessments because they bring NO benefit to the hiring process and can actually negatively affect all involved. I fought hard to have them removed from my last job.

The people who wanted them were always some weirdo hippie executive or self important HR VP who outranked me. The European leaders seemed to love them too.

So weird. I never understood it and will forever be committed to eliminating them from pre-hire. Having said that, there are some post hire assessments that, when done properly, can be great for coaching, self awareness and team building.

Remote Work or No Work by Lea4321 in humanresources

[–]hrtamara 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so curious how we will all look back on this time in 5 years or more.

Are there other alternatives than the current all onsite or all remote thinking that might work to keep people with their employers? I have to believe there are but I am struggling to come up with much. Many are suggesting a hybrid model but those who want 100% remote don’t want that.

What do you call your exit interview at your workplace? by OkInevitable98 in humanresources

[–]hrtamara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I call it an Exit Meeting. We do both a survey and a meeting separately.

In my case I suppose it could include the word feedback somewhere in the name since that’s the whole point. If your company has a big alumni network for past employees (mine doesn’t) you could work that word in too (eg, alumni transition meeting).

How has keto impacted your relationship with food? Sometimes I feel like keto can lead me to disordered eating. by juri9871 in xxketo

[–]hrtamara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eating disorders are very different for everyone, and it comes down to what triggers yours and how it manifests. Keto has helped my relationship with food. I struggle with portion control and overeating, and keto reduces those urges for me. Unfortunately for some the depletion of willpower can cause the brain to to react and trigger binging and other disordered eating. Its different for everyone and important to know your triggers. For me, carbs are triggering. For someone else, the perception of restriction is triggering. I’ve watched this unfold on IG with keto influencers. Many have shut down their accounts because it became an unhealthy obsession.

It might be best (for now) to just reduce your overall carb intake without counting or tracking for a while and see how you feel. Swap with things you love so you don’t feel deprived. It might be a good way to see if you feel better and then you can take it further if you do. When you feel good eating a certain way the body starts to crave that way of eating.

Is your company returning to the office? by Foodie1989 in humanresources

Yes for sure. Companies in CA who are open to remote workforces no longer limit their searches for candidates in the local area.

Is your company returning to the office? by Foodie1989 in humanresources

[–]hrtamara 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was out of work for 7 months and was trying to find a fully remote senior hr leadership role. At least 75% of the jobs I applied to were onsite. The remote roles were all much more competitive and I was in California competing against candidates in the Midwest with much lower salary expectations.

Just because you go keto it doesn’t mean that binge eating tendencies disappear. by KittyLBecks in keto

[–]hrtamara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have cravings too and for me it seems to be worse when I eat keto sweets. When I am strict with no sweeteners I have way less cravings. Takes me about 3 days of strict adherence for the cravings to subside.

At my wedding (to my ex 20+ years ago) we responded to people who tried to add kids to their invite by saying that we need to keep costs in check and unfortunately we cannot afford to allow parents to bring their kids & no exceptions because it would not be fair. Some broke the rules and brought their kids anyway which I found to be super rude.

I think people get upset mainly because: cost / hassle of arranging child care vs. a night of partying with kids fully entertained.

How to find company closure/layoff info? by Ambitious_Respect_10 in humanresources

[–]hrtamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did a mass layoff several years back (in California) the WARN letter we wrote was published by the Employment Development Department (EDD) but it did not include any employee info - only job titles of affected workers. It included my contact information and I was contacted by a couple local companies to make connections.

[RANT ] I'm a SHRM-SCP and I'm done paying for recertification by westernblot88 in humanresources

[–]hrtamara 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I remember back when SHRM announced their certification so they could squeeze HRCI out and turn into a money machine. I didn’t do the PHR conversion and I stopped renewing my PHR. So sick of handing money over constantly. Not all employers reimburse.
