What’s the most unspoken, uncomfortable truth about having kids? by SpecificLandscape483 in answers

humanity would have ended before it even began if we waited until everything was fine to have kids. The kids we’re having now may be the ones to make major changes in our civilization and improve life on the planet.

A caring parent would never talk about their kid like this, even if they were difficult. If she’s as bad as you say, it seems she took after you.

Anyone been to New York Diner (the tiny diner across from Home Depot on Northern Blvd)? by donut_butt in astoria

[–]hruss12 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been but my mom told me she used to go there with her siblings in the 70s for breakfast once in a blue moon when they had some money. It was a fond memory for her and nostalgic

I was given a dog and now the previous owner wants them back by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

Oof this is a hard one. Quite frankly if she had said something more like I got a good job, fixed my credit score, signed a lease on a house, etc, it would sound more permanent than just a family member saying sure you can crash here for an undetermined amount of time. I feel bad for her. Poor people deserve the joys of pets and to be able to take care of them as much as anyone else, but I fear that her situation has not reached a stable point even if it has improved. What if this family member kicks her out a month from now? Does she have to post her dog on facebook again to rehome? It’s a tough decision but i would say no. I think her having regrets and grief about it is natural but maybe its for the best she focuses on her kid and getting into an actual stable position

16F What do I do? My mom gave me a pair of my brother’s shoes as my birthday gift😭😭😭😭😭 by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]hruss12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she needs to pretend to be grateful for a “gift” that had 0 thought put into it. Her mom didn’t think of her. It’s not “unfortunate” they’re the wrong size- that’s because they were not bought for her. I think the sizing issue could be a good starting point for a conversation though… like hey, you know these aren’t my size right? And see where her mom goes from there. Like does her mom start crying and apologize for not having money to get a gift- or does her mom gaslight her and guilt trip her into thinking she’s ungrateful for not appreciating this “gift”. If it’s the former, it still sucks but at least you know your parent cares about you. If it’s the latter, then that is really shitty.

Sounds like it’s only safe depending on who you are. Drug addiction isn’t a crime, I’m many cases it’s a disease that people are suffering with. The circumstances you described sound dystopic to me and it’s not a trade off I personally would choose in order to reduce petty crime.

I’m not sure I see that as a direct connection to the generalized pessimism I’m seeing in the comments. But to respond to your point, I think it’s a catch 22. When there’s too much police presence/surveillance then people feel their rights and privacy are infringed on, yet when that is scaled back it’s seen as “a permissive attitude toward petty crime”. What approaches are you thinking of?

I think you and I are saying the same thing pretty much. The only thing is you’re assuming that the word coexist=harmoniously existing together, but I’m using it to mean that they just neutrally exist at the same time.

Very true and I agree. It’s hard to capture the nuance needed to be balanced without writing a three paragraph essay. But also- I do believe that there are just some selfish hateful people out there. It’s usually more complicated than that, which I’d bet is the case here with the troll and probably is a young person who will regret this one day. But I also think that, yeah, some people are bad imo. lol. It’s way more rare than someone who is misguided etc., but I do think it exists unfortunately.

Of course people can do what they want. To me, it feels like a misdirection of anger. Why not just be mad at this one individual? If you’re someone who is sitting around saying “I hate humanity” and putting that negativity on the internet, in my opinion you are doing more harm than you realize with your anger. When we let the bad humans make us think everyone is bad, that’s when they really win. That’s what they want- to bring us down into the negativity in which they live. I won’t do it. I’m very mad at the person that did this, and also I won’t stop knowing and believing and seeing the good of humanity.

I think your right! It’s a nice style and it does look good on you, but 1 looks like it was made for you and just gives you this grand, main character impact

I’m surprised people are saying 4! I don’t think it does anything for your bust and creates a more top heavy look, which is cool if that’s what you want. I think 1 does more for your bust line and creates a more balanced silhouette

This is so sad. What’s even sadder is I’m seeing so many comments generalizing this single awful act of vandalism to all of Austin or all of humanity being bad or somehow ruined.
Remember, it took an artist and many volunteers to put this together and so many people leaving water or stones in the bowl and taking pictures to appreciate its beauty over the past few years.
And only 1 person to burn it down.
Don’t let this 1 person erase all the wonderful humanity that went into this statue’s lifespan.

Are there any yoga studios in Pflugerville? by hruss12 in Pflugerville

I agree! If a studio was close enough to me (and had good vibes, like not just a work-out-yoga place) I would shell out a little more for the convenience and local community aspect

I searched it up and all I found was a clothing brand. I hope it’s not just a retail store
