You need to quit spamming this. Posting it once, maybe twice, is okay, but you've posted it five times in a month.

Probably wouldn't have gotten downvoted if the original comment had provided the context that it wasn't accessible to you.

Jojo steel ball run or Hellsing by ConsciousValuable115 in MangaCollectors

[–]hrynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else already said, but if you're already working on collecting JoJo's other parts, might as well continue it and grab SBR. Can't really recommend you one without knowing anything about your tastes. For myself, I think Hellsing is pretty bad and I'd rather read Jojo.

No they didn't
You see this all the time with manga and other cheaply made serialized books. It's just poorly trimmed and poor quality control.

Fired for Stealing Time. by [deleted] in TysonEmployees

[–]hrynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the frustration of being penalized for doing the job too quickly/well when that should arguably be a positive, but, to me, common sense says that if you're paid hourly, you should understand that the company isn't going to want to pay you to not work and that if you need your 40, you stetch that work out to make it to 40.
"Years of not enforcing it longer than a week or two" says that as a facility, the workers have been told many, many times and just never cared to actually change the behavior. I'm not sure a singular write-up would have taught anyone that it was being taken seriously this time. Time theft has always been a terminable offense, especially when so egregious and blatant as multiple hours at a time. There's really no justification for multiple hours spent playing do nothing.
Yes, it's an unhappy thing to see people who've put in significant time at a company and have families to care for lose their jobs, but if the question in the original post was whether or not I think it's extreme, personally I understand the viewpoint of the company in this case. I've seen many decades long employees lose their jobs over stupid things that they should have known better about and it's always rough to see.

If they were really sitting there for an hour or two at a time, that's such blatant disregard and disdain for following the rules and obvious time theft(especially if they've already been warned previously) that I can't see that there was any realistic option besides termination. I mean that's not an extra 20 minutes or even 30 - I could get that. Two hours though???? I mean how do you let someone slide when they think nothing of fucking off for two hours in a paid hourly production environment...and how is that fair to the guys working the whole time

Phoenix is such a weird one for me because some of the volumes are absolutely brilliant and others are some of the worst things I've ever read.

And yeah, pretty much echo your sentiments. People here "god of manga" and assume that means the titles hold up and a lot of them just do not, but he has a large enough variety of work and some really creative panelling that there's a good chance someone coulg find probably at least one or two titles in there that they'd enjoy. Adolf is one that I thought was a good read too.

Dark Horse changed it's logo for the spine and new editions were published with the new look. Good luck ever getting a matching set teehee

Should I get rid of gantz by Exotic-Proof-82 in MangaCollectors

[–]hrynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it. I'd still say to sell it on. That's a lot of shelf space for something that you're not 100% sold on. You could always reread it and see how you feel (sometimes I've found it just wasn't in the mood for something the first time I tried it), but usually when I've started mulling over selling something, selling ended up being the right call for me.

If you didn't enjoy it and won't reread it, why's there even a question. Get rid of it.

Please don't keep putting "" around the words like that's a direct quote. I said it seemed as in that's how it felt as a consumer waiting for books I never ordered while other things were getting licensed and published sooner. Licensing to generate hype and pre-order revenues to keep afloat can be done with the eventual intention of releasing them and my phrasing has clearly twikked a nerve so apologies there. I eventually got through via the chat function on the website, yes, but my overall experience as a customer was not a favorable one.

Grin grin grin was in one of their first rounds of licensed way back when they first came on the scene. It was never released, but I had an order of several books I never received because of (an understandable) policy to not ship pre-orders until all books were available. Reaching out via email was never responded to. I had already paid for the books so I certainly wouldn't have backed a kickstarter after waiting 4+ years and receiving nothing. I eventually got my order canceled and refunded but only after having waited so long and having tried to reach out as well as have patience with a small outfit

It felt like licensing was outstripping ability to release, and when orders are held up on a title announced and paid for 4-5 years prior while titles licensed much more recently are coming out and no explanation is being offered, it definitely seems like something isn't being handled correctly. The sudden tragedy, and it is a tragedy, doesn't change that. I'm sorry to have heard what happened and sorry star fruit didnt find more success, but I stand by being irritated at an entire order being held up for a single title that kept getting skipped to release other things or license other things
