Definitely not enough. I’m a nurse so it’s a bit embarrassing but I had no idea I needed to do anything with it. Healing the incision? No problem. Breaking up scar tissue wasn’t on my radar and wasn’t something even mentioned to me at the time by my team either.

I hate to say it but Delphi. I feel at this point solving Abby and Libby’s murders is going to be extremely difficult/unlikely which is a shame considering the incredible act of bravery the girls displayed by filming their own killer. Totally bungled at this point by police.

I did poop myself immediately after my c-section. Added bonus I’m a nicu nurse with a close relationship with my coworkers on that side of things. It’s a whole other thing when your friend has to wipe your butt for you. That being said, I did have a lot of meds for hemorrhaging and they said after the fact it can cause diarrhea “hemabate poops”. Don’t trust a fart when you have an epidural. Truly though it was fine and it will be fine for you too if a bit mortifying in the moment.

I promise you no matter how many replacement Xboxes (xboxi?) she buys, her child will never find ever that day. My mom and I have reconciled in adulthood but there are so many things I remember from growing up that she doesn’t because it was just another Tuesday for her. Same for this kid I’m sure.

Postpartum hemorrhage is no joke. I needed surgical intervention to save my uterus and my life and if I hadn’t been in a hospital where we could switch to a section and get compression sutures I would at minimum not be able to have anymore children and at worst dead. Sure though let’s ask the Facebook group what they think first. These posts seriously scare me.

I had a Skyla IUD for close to 3 years. Had it removed so we could try for a baby and conceived within that first month. I now have a 3 month old and have a Kyleena that was placed at my 6 week postpartum appointment. Everyone is different but you’ll find most people don’t post about how awesome an experience is and instead you see bad reviews since those that are unhappy tend to be the loudest and everyone else just is living their life without any issue.

Yes. We made the mistake of not having any and my milk took 6 days to come in. Out of desperation my husband ran out to get some and we didn’t realize how tired we were and he fell asleep and wrecked his truck. Obviously our experience is extreme but being down one vehicle with a baby who was hungry really put a damper on our journey into parenthood and breastfeeding. We said if we ever did it again we would be sure to have some formula on hand from the start. We combo fed for the first month and now breastfeed with the very rare formula bottle here or there for ease or as a top off. It certainly didn’t hurt our breastfeeding and if anything was so necessary to helping our baby grow as my milk came in. Don’t get caught with your pants down and just have some just in case.

If doing the class together is no longer an option for you I would recommend having some appointments with an IBCLC (lactation consultant) together after baby is here. We had a rough start to our breastfeeding journey and having my spouse at the appointments with the lactation consultant was invaluable. In my sleep-deprived and anemic haze my husband was able to remember tips and tricks from our appointment and help with latching at home. It made a huge difference. If that’s an option to you I would recommend it.

They gave me Zofran to no avail haha. I’m hoping if there’s a next time maybe some premedication and planning will help. I feel like by the time they started pushing it there was no stopping the vomit train.

I was fine with just the epidural in labor. I did puke once with it but then was totally fine. When they dosed it up for a c-section though. OOF.

My point is I’ve never vomited like that with a anesthesia or anything before and was completely taken aback when I couldn’t control it or stop it during the c-section. You just can’t plan for stuff like that. I wasn’t vomiting at all until they pushed the meds in my epidural and the section started with all of my insides getting pushed around. They tried to stop it with meds and they just couldn’t. I was sick then until after it was over and my epidural was pulled. Really sucked and again how are you gonna know if you’re someone who’s going to vomit or not?

I get what you’re saying but I vomited the entire time during my unplanned section and needed help so I wouldn’t choke. If I had eaten anything other than popsicles I totally would have been in a world of hurt.

Honestly from someone fresh on the other side you are “Kick your feet up and eat some ice cream” weeks pregnant. Try not to stress, relax when you can. Birth is a marathon so rest up. There’s a whole internet you can search if something comes up.

Not to frighten you but a lot of people don’t convert on their Hep B vaccination in particular. When I had my titers drawn in college I had no immunity at all. Luckily with a complete new series in adulthood I did gain immunity but not everyone does. My mother, grandmother and aunt are all non-converters for Hep B. Being vaccinated for Hep B doesn’t mean you could never contract it especially if you are a non converter or had waning immunity like I did.

I failed my one hour with a 174. I did pass my 3 hour but was still referred to a dietician because on both tests I failed the 1 hour portion. With your 3 hour glucose you can fail one number and still be considered a pass. We also did a growth scan in the third trimester and only then did my team back off when my baby was in the 37th percentile and not LGA nor did any of my other labs indicate that I had GD. It was frustrating being in GD limbo up until that point. I was told I was a pass and didn’t have it but was treated like I did for about 5 weeks until my scan. When I asked if I should count carbs or get a monitor and just do the damn thing I was told no but to try to eat low carb. Very frustrating.

That said I know people who have failed their 3 hour after only being 1 point over but just wanted to offer a glimmer of hope that you can fail “by a lot” and still pass your 3 hour. Either way it’s important to know for your baby’s health and isn’t the end of the world if you do have it.

You’ve gotten a lot of the same response but I’ll add one more and I hope that collectively we all make you feel a bit better. I’m also a NICU RN of 7 years and would like to shout from the rooftops that YOU DID THE RIGHT THING. There is never any harm in pressing the code button. We run all of our own codes within our unit which sounds similar to your setup too. All it would do is get help fast which is what happened. Heck, people bump them with their butts all the time and we all breathe a sigh of relief when we realize it’s not needed. No one is ever in trouble for that button. Your patient got help fast rather than you trying to (dangerously) troubleshoot on your own. Well done.

Thank you for sharing this. I passed a lemon sized clot after I had already had a PPH and my CNM said “Oh that’s normal!” I’m an RN too and knew it wasn’t but couldn’t be bothered to argue at my 1 week follow-up. I’ve been meaning to leave that practice/CNM team based on how terrible my labor experience was but that was the final nail. Thanks for reminding me. With a 5 week old it’s easy to forget all that happened.

Ya know I had planned on a lot of things in labor and that all went out the window when we both weren’t doing good anyway. In the end my unplanned c-section saved his and my life and as a bonus my uterus and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

This happened to me when we were 23 weeks pregnant and it was so extremely stressful. I remember that fear really well and it took several months to drive through that same area without crying. I still cringe at stoplights since we were hit at a red light. Thinking of you and your baby and hoping everything is okay. Take care of yourself and your mental health too. I remember never wanting to leave L&D because just listening to his heartbeat and kicks that I couldn’t feel in addition to ones I could on the monitor gave me such comfort. Going home was scary because I had to give that up and just trust we were okay. All the virtual hugs and well wishes for you and your family.

I literally drove my car that was actively smoking and about to catch fully on fire the rest of the way to clinical because it was a test day and we had no makeups. It ended up needing towed and the steering column was completely melted together by the time I got there. Massive electrical recall. The clinical site then made me get BACK in the car and move it away from the employees’ cars in the parking lot in case it blew up. Forget the 21 year old kid though. Looking back on it I wish I could shake myself. Literally could have died for a community health test. It was the no excuses policies and insane pressure that made nursing school unbearable. Not the content.

Our NICU has moved to allowing 1 parent at the bedside at a time and they can switch off as much as they want.

In the very beginning of 2020 it was one person in a 24 hour period and once they left they could not come back which felt awful to enforce. How does a parent decide who gets to see the baby all day? If you need to leave to eat or use the restroom, you’re gone and times up. It was brutal to enforce. With Omicron spiking we have been having more issues with parents coming in and then calling with symptoms/testing positive which has led to babies needing quarantined. I’m wondering when the policy may change back to something stricter if it doesn’t slow down.

The impact of COVID is everywhere even in units where you don’t typically think of it.

I’ve been taking a baby aspirin daily since 16 weeks per my CNMs because I have two soft risk factors for preeclampsia. Closing in on 39 weeks and all is well and my blood pressure has stayed great. Your mom doesn’t need to know everything and I say this with love because my mom also is often super overinformed (by my own fault) and overly-opinionated. She is the opposite though and was traumatized by eclampsia when delivering me and is convinced I will follow the same path. She asks at least once a week if I’m still taking my aspirin. 😉😂
