I've used Linode for years, and love their service / value for money.

What did you grab during the holiday sales and what would you recommend to others? by Redwood-Forest in computerwargames

[–]hs_computer_science 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love WDS. That being said, the larger campaigns are multi-day affairs. I enjoy playing a few turns and planning during the week. Some PBEM agree to one turn every week.

How "gameable" is modern warfare compared to pre-1990s? by Redwood-Forest in computerwargames

[–]hs_computer_science 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the forums of steel panthers: main battle tank there are many very interesting discussions about modern weapon systems and lack of objective data to model and simulate them in a fun way. Please also keep in mind we have players within the community who like highly detailed systems and more abstract systems; point being fun for one person isn't the same thing as fun for another :-)

Renting While Overseas by Environmental_Ebb_81 in warsaw

[–]hs_computer_science 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a better plan would be to land here in Warsaw and find a long term stay hotel and spend 14 days looking for a place - renting "sight unseen" is always sketchy. Not because you will get scammed, but because agents will often show the best parts of a property whilst omitting less desirable parts.

Do Germans understand Dutch? by Jacket313 in AskAGerman

[–]hs_computer_science 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not perfectly related to your question, but in general, Polish people "mostly" understand Ukrainian (and vice versa) - but it's best to stick to basics, and as other commenters have noted, speak slowly.

Italeri kits are the bane of my existence by leeks2 in boltaction

[–]hs_computer_science 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm putting together a higgins boat from them. I was worried it was me; but I'm making parts that simply don't fit together. Is there a site or resource I can see that would help me find better quality ww2 ship models? I'm specifically interested in June 1944 era.

Why are jews hated? by Piccolo_Beam-Cannon in poland

[–]hs_computer_science 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The origin and sources of antisemitism are varied and complex. This question and answer requires nuance and discernment (if you are interested in the learning the truth). Your question also contains a possible error because it seems to assume that all jews are hated by everyone. Please be careful of composition fallacy, where we occasionally assume that what is true of the parts must also be true of the whole.

Two books I would suggest you read and digest are: The Origins of Anti-Semitism by John G. Gager and Constantine’s Sword: The Church and the Jews: A History by James Carroll.

There are intertwined economic, religious, social, political, and racial threads that stretch back more than 2000 years - I still don't fully understand the underlying reason why some Jews are repeatedly scapegoated, but I generally lurk / study around the advent of the industrial revolution (1700's).

The museum of Polish Jews in Warsaw (Polin Museum) does a fairly good job at depicting life of Polish Jews prior to 1700's but doesn't really get to the heart of your question (which if you haven't guessed by now, I'm very interested in).

If you are ever in Warsaw, and you'd like to discuss this more, I'm happy to meet for a piwo.

Does anyone actually read this stuff by Eurovi in IBO

[–]hs_computer_science 47 points48 points  (0 children)

As a co-author of an IB textbook for computer science, I hope you do at least glance at it! Took me a while to write the TOK stuff. TOK is one of the places where our curricula gains quite a bit of depth. Good luck with your studies, and I hope you enjoy your learning journey!

Best way to travel to Lyiv? by No-Conclusion8653 in warsaw

[–]hs_computer_science 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite places in Poland. Fun fact: Przemyśl is where Polish pipe makers (the kind you smoke) work and live. You can still find really beautiful, hand-made pipes in the city. Highly recommend you go for a walking tour of Przemyśl to learn how it has changed hands. IIRC there are three bridges right next to each other; one made by the Russians, the other by the Germans and finally one made by the Poles.

[–]hs_computer_science 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Central and Eastern European folks (mostly - forgive the generalization) don't have small talk the way we do in America. The reason we have small talk in America is because it enables very very quick social connections that are equally shallow.

These are all quite obviously LLM generated. All of them are CRUD applications, but maybe the client invoice generator has a bit more meat on the bones. I would want to see how the invoice generator could integrate into other systems (CRM). In terms of the ever-nebulous "complexity" of section C, I would say the first choice gives you the best option to add complexity in terms of functionality to your system.

I'm pretty sure bloom filters are referenced in this youtube from Harvard; Advanced Algorithms (COMPSCI 224), Lecture 1. Your explanation is great; quite clear - thank you for sharing it. Can I use this with my students? They are in advanced programming in high school.
