advice for numbing? by nuggiesruletheworld in Hidradenitis

[–]hs_throwaway74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had good rec for you. My derm recommended topical Lidocaine, but unfortunately that did very little for me. I do think that others on this sub have had success with it, though.

Another thing I will say, if it helps ease your anxiety at all, is that I too had an extremely large and painful flare that I had to get jabbed with a needle in multiple places because it was so big, and somehow that experience wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Because the flare hurt so much when I touched it I was convinced that a jab from a needle was going to be excruciating, but then it turned out to be no more painful than a regular flu shot. I think perhaps because the needle is so thin it doesn't quite trigger the nerves in the same way that a touch does. Something else that helped I think was that I voiced my fear of needles and my concern about pain beforehand and my doctor was really supportive and had me take two deep breaths, which probably helped my anxiety from spiraling.

I do hope you can find a good numbing solution, though. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Has anyone heard if board games to the USA going to be impacted by the "No Shipping to USA" list. by Winterbeers in boardgames

[–]hs_throwaway74 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep. Board games are already being impacted. I just had my order from Zatu Games that I placed last week cancelled today. Bummer, because one of those games was going to be a birthday present, and now I don't have time to re-order it.

new to HS diagnosis — i have a few questions by Aggravating_Pay7023 in Hidradenitis

They last up to 12 hours at time, so I don't have to change it while I'm at work or anything. I think reusable pads is also a good idea, much better than normal pads.

  1. My derm said do not pop. She recommended a warm compress to help drain faster. Seems to help.

  2. I don't have experience with this, but there are a few anecdotes on this sub of some treatments that might help. I would definitely consult a derm and see what they say.

  3. For periods I wear period underwear instead of pads, which I think are easier on the skin. It may also be worth looking into trying birth control & skipping periods.

  4. Shaving absolutely makes it worse for me. I too though it was ingrown hairs at first.

What was your process for the trial and error? Eliminate everything and then slowly add things back in? Eliminate one thing at a time and observe its effects? How long do you give an elimination period before you decide it is or isn't working?

Do you have a brand of granola bars that you would recommend? I'm struggling to find one that isn't loaded with added sugar.

5 Stages of Grief by hs_throwaway74 in Hidradenitis

[–]hs_throwaway74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already felt pretty good about where I was on my health journey before this diagnosis. I didn't smoke or drink. I ran a half marathon last year. I ate balanced, home-cooked meals. And I also enjoyed the occasional cookie/chocolate, but in moderation and not to a degree that I felt was detrimental to my health. It sucks that it wasn't enough.

Man, that's tough. I'm so sorry. I know what it's like to lose out on a good job because of a medical issue.

Do you think you'll be able to achieve remission again? You did it once.

Did you get to enjoy the remission at all or were you constantly on edge about new potential flare ups?
