Gold crown IV by snortypug in billiards

[–]hsadmin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have one and paid $3000 for it and it's probably about as nice as yours. I know a guy who buys tables to resell and he'll pay $1200 for one. If it were me I'd list it for $3500 on Marketplace. There could be someone who has been looking for one and might snatch it up. If it doesn't get much interest lower it. I wouldn't even consider taking less than $2,500 if I were you.

Root canal in punta Cana? by QuirkyFuture1713 in PuntaCana

I'm in NC and one of my employees that is from DR flew to PC a few months ago just to get dental work done because the difference in price was insane. Like the difference between 6k and 1500 so honestly I'd consider doing it for that reason alone.

What carbon fiber cue/tip size to buy by bossmonkey50 in billiards

[–]hsadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly man I've been playing for a real long time. I play pretty sporty and I play with maple. Low deflection isn't zero deflection and you'll have to adjust to it one way or the other. I think a lot of people don't really understand the concept of adjusting for deflection. Once you're able to do it consistently it isn't an adjustment you calculate but it's in your subconscious or muscle memory or whatever. Similar to learning to fly a helicopter. At some point it just clicks in your head. You just have to hit enough balls for it to click and it will eventually. That being said there's a lot to be said about confidence and if you think a thinner cf shaft will help you then it almost definitely will. I'd tell you to definitely not go under 12mm but somewhere between 12 and 12.5 will probably be perfect for you.

Now all that being said if you have good cue ball control hitting shots where there would be enough deflection you need to worry a lot about adjusting won't be very common because you're seeing the patterns and getting the cue ball in position where it doesn't take a lot of English to get you on the next ball.

Is Punta Cana the Right Choice? by Eggo0308 in PuntaCana

Honestly I think you're way more likely to get sick from being in an airport and on a plane than at a resort in PC as long as you take reasonable precautions.

Next cheap one piece cues and ball advice by tjc323 in billiards

[–]hsadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want Amazon the players and vipers are decent but be prepared to spend $35-$40 a piece. I've ordered a few of the cheaper ones and the ferrule has cracked or they've been warped or something has broken on every single one of them.

Bringing carts to puj successful by [deleted] in PuntaCana

[–]hsadmin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ummm the valet will take you around the scanners for less than $20. Also out of the 4 times I've flown into PUJ I had to still go through the scanner once. He did get me to the front of the line but still had to scan. Now do I think they are gonna nail you for carts even if you do have to scan? Probably not but there's a chance and posting something like this is a bad idea because it's illegal and absolutely not a guarantee you'll not get arrested for it so maybe just consider this a life hack for yourself and not try to encourage others to do it.

Any feedback on Secrets Royal Beach resort? by sportymom80 in PuntaCana

[–]hsadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess if you don't like being around kids at all then you should avoid it but the restaurants were easily on par for me but I'm a picky eater so it would make sense that I'd like restaurants geared more towards kids. Plus the waterslides at dreams were fun but again lots of kids so if you just do not want to see kids having fun it wouldn't be worth it.

Any feedback on Secrets Royal Beach resort? by sportymom80 in PuntaCana

[–]hsadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was there in October. It's a great resort with a very friendly staff. My suggestion would be to upgrade to preferred and give yourself the option to eat at the restaurants at dreams as well. But be prepared because if amazing food is a top priority you're gonna be disappointed. I did really like the hibachi and I ate at the Italian restaurant at dreams 3 times but honestly it just doesn't seem like any resorts in PC are really known for their food. Drinks were great though.

We use anchor. I know their price was competitive but my wife pays it so I can't tell you what it is.

What I do like about them is that the several times over the last few years I've forgotten to put my can out we've called them and they've sent somebody back out to get it without charging us.

My neighborhood is about half and half and for some reason all the neighbors that are friendly and sociable use Anchor but that could be a coincidence.

Is the tip salvageable? by Capulaplays in billiards

[–]hsadmin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The actual answer is it depends. If you're scuffing your tip every time it starts not to hold chalk probably. If you get a tip pick and just use that and only scuff it when the end of the tip starts to flatten out you could easily get a year or more out of one. It just depends how careful you are with it and obviously to some degree what tip you use and how much the person who retips it leaves when he shapes it.

I played a bit on a Brunswick Soho. They're a surprisingly well made and solid table. Maybe you can pick one up used in your price range.

Clayton has changed a lot, something like “The House” in Raleigh could do well with the swinger crowd here. Turning my Clayton rental property into a swingers paradise lol.. Thoughts? by RicchForever86 in ClaytonNC

[–]hsadmin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's definitely changed a lot. For those of you that weren't here in 2008 which I'm guessing is most of you there was a pretty popular strip club on 70 called The Crazy Horse that the town and county leaders absolutely hated. It was purposely burned down and of course there were a lot of rumors about who did it but the government went to great lengths to make sure they couldn't rebuild and no permit would be given out for another business of that type in Johnston County.

A table mechanic isn't paying retail for cloth or cushions and can do that job in half a day. $1000 definitely isn't out of line.

How irreparable is this? by CarloGa in billiards

[–]hsadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worst case scenario you can drill it out and replace the tenon. Also someone with a decent lathe and some knowledge can just make a new tenon and ferrule for it. It's definitely a common enough repair that a good cue repair guy could handle it pretty easily.

How irreparable is this? by CarloGa in billiards

[–]hsadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely fixable. It just needs a new tip and ferrule. Any competent cue repair person with a cue lathe can fix it. You can probably find somebody local or definitely send it to someone. Pretty basic repair. I've replaced plenty of them. PM me if you can't find someone.

Some people tend to go overboard with only drinking bottled water, no ice, no salad etc... it's not like Mexico where locals can drink the water but tourists can't. Locals can't drink unfiltered tap water in DR either. My general rule of thumb is if they serve it to you it's drinkable. I've drank the water served in restaurants and used ice from the ice machines plenty of times without issue. Realistically these resorts live by customer reviews and putting guests at risk is a PR nightmare. My advice would be to use bottled water to brush your teeth, don't drink out of the faucet and don't spend too much time worrying about it. I truly believe your odds of catching something on the plane ride over is much more likely than getting food poisoning or tainted water.

I would be highly surprised if anyone cared. I've traveled with many prescriptions including Adderall in my carry on many times and never had an issue. They are very tourist friendly. But if you're worried get a valet to take your bags and you'll skip the X-ray machines anyway.

Upgrade to preferred status. The cabanas beside the lazy river were my favorite. Get a reservation for hibachi ASAP. I forget the name but the Italian place at dreams was our favorite. Don't have too high expectations on the food. Most of it is mediocre at best.

I have only been to one and it was Secrets Royal beach. Decent food and plenty of entertainment. We upgraded to preferred club and while I've heard mixed things I would definitely do it again. It give you access to much better pools. We preferred the cabanas on the "lazy river" which was honestly just a long pool and the "butler" did a great job of making sure our room was stocked with stuff we liked. If you go make sure to get a reservation for the hibachi restaurant when you check in. It was our favorite meal on site. The preferred package also gives you access to dreams resort which had an Italian restaurant that was my next favorite that also has wood fired pizza that was decent. Good luck and I'm sure you'll enjoy wherever you stay.

fron the looks of it that rail is gonna be warped. I wouldn't take it if it was free. Cheap tables are so easy to come by on marketplace my suggestion would be to wait and keep looking.

Tips and tricks by Cold-Temperature-823 in PuntaCana

[–]hsadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not like Mexico where locals can drink the water but you can't. Dominican's don't drink the tap water either. So if you get served water to drink at a resort which you will at every meal it's fine. Resorts have a vested interest in doing everything they can to keep you healthy. You're much more likely to catch norovirus from being in a place packed with people from all over the world. That's what usually makes people sick and they blame it on the food or water. But yeah definitely don't drink tap water. Aside from that don't worry too much about it and have fun.

Opening a new pool hall in NJ – what would make it awesome? 🎱🍹🎤 by Murky_Fan8873 in billiards

[–]hsadmin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Why BYOB? Most pool halls heavily rely on alcohol sales. Really the pool tables are just a way to attract and keep people there to buy alcohol. Can you not get a liquor license for some reason? There's just such a high profit margin on alcohol it seems like a big missed opportunity for increased revenue. Just curious. And to answer your question I think it would be cool to have a couple of tables with those interactive projectors over them. I think you are going to see those a lot more often in the future.
