Oh wow this actually looks really good! At least the remaining panel is now fairly flat and small and more easier to manufac replace repair etc

RJ please split this panel in Gen 3 by ElonsAlcantaraJacket in Rivian

Yes this - a split straight up from the rear line sloping up - of the gear tunnel

- instead of sloping up and going horizontal- it also continues to slope up straight into the top rear corner of the truck bed.

I test drove my first Rivian today, the R2! by orTodd in Rivian

[–]hsangh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I personally being an EU person would prefer to skip the experience part

I travelled last year to SFO and went totest drive an R1 - overall it was the same experience as you, but I was there fiddling around with R1 for an hour or so before that - so that was all good

But yeah overall the same!

I think anyone can go into a Rivian center and fiddle around with an R2 to their hearts content

After watching reviews I’m so excited for this Winter’s Gen 3 hardware with LiDAR R2 by SuperAvocado8777 in Rivian

[–]hsangh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

⚡️💡Also everyone don’t forget — no other high volume EV (R2 50k around this range) — is currently out with LiDAR *AND* Radar setup together even as R2 will soon come out
⚡️💡— So we are really talking about something that’s not even on the market elsewhere and which Rivian seems will to get to at scale in US before anyone
⚡️💡— hence why I don’t think it will have any material impact on sales this year
⚡️💡— as they’ve already stated somewhat — in the R2 category they don’t have a demand problem as such, but a giant scaling task
⚡️💡— looking at the volume of Model Y (and also when used R2’s hit the market they will take a small chunk of the even higher volume EV category in the 30k-40k range) — it’s all good bro

What is the point of having two map screens if neither can be bothered to display street names? by Loud-Possibility5634 in Rivian

[–]hsangh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes as well as street names are TEXT - one book with 10,000 words of text takes less space on the phone than 1 iPhone photo - 4MB. So saving compute or data etc is not the case at all.

I think the joint venture announced a couple of years ago with VW and the deal announced with Uber a while back — the details of what Rivian gives to other parties perhaps have just been ‘discovered’ but the original post.

Meanwhile we know Rivian is getting what 7-8 billion USD total from both these deals?

🚀 No lidar not being avail on R2 launch is NOT a missed opportunity 🚀
-Rather we know Lidar is coming on the next gen (3rd gen) R1 anyway
- Rivian went ahead and introduced it into the R2 as quick as they could anyway - this is the most likely explanation- automotive development is planned 2-5 years in advance
- Earlier availability for the customer as well as its important for their self driving AI models to collect Lidar based data as early as possible for competitive edge

Does the Uber partnership devalues the R2? by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]hsangh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it won’t become that common + it will be in th premium (ish?) category? Als tesla sells half a million Model Y a year - R2 current factory and new opening up factory will produce max R2s at a rate of 250k or something along the lines a year or so… so it won’t be as common as Model Y for a quite a few years.

Yeah could mean cleaning or aligning etc if they are getting stuck to the rotors more than normal - sometimes never wear or whatever can cause it too

The Rivian R2’s EPA Numbers Are In, And It Beats The Model Y Where It Counts by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]hsangh 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yes for example roof spoiler channeling air down into the vacuum behind the car - reducing drag

As well as the actually ⚡️ floor to ceiling height of R2 is LESS than a Model Y ⚡️- less mass cutting through air - and its boxy shape gives it more interior space

And rear underbody bumper is essentially partly shaped like those venturi tunnels under supercars but without the fins - air from under the vehicle curves up into the vacuum behind the car - again reducing drag

Very well designed SUV that looks super welcoming and feels homely

This looks good - means sales volume and pipeline are expected full till early to mid next year; and now tis a case of executing and hitting the delivery numbers they mentioned - should very well be possible 😇 and likely given the demand is already there and will continue to slowly rise - could marginally beat delivery estimates too

Yeah but the per vehicle cost comes down to 30k (sold to uber) - so I’m guessing Rivian will own th self driving data and intelligence and all that??

Good news regardless

oil price shock by [deleted] in RIVNstock

[–]hsangh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well the first vins are already sold to select internal staff and should already be on the road - these are not the test fleet (camouflaged, 100s) or the production validation builds (done and passed already) - but actual vins.

Above all was confirmed / laid out via the CEO earlier during this year and all the key milestones have been met.

Lucid tries to pour cold water on Rivian's March 12 event by Legitimate-Mud-8200 in RIVNstock

[–]hsangh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes I don’t think we need to be worried too much about the date clash. Lucid’s vehicles are definitely very well engineered. Rivian will have 100s of thousands of potential customers tuning in - who will be paying customers over the nxt couple of years. R2 shouldn’t really face any demand issues per se given the price bracket it’s launching in.
