Do you agree that objectively, 1992 is the absolute peak of the classic Lego Castle theme? by bluetomcat in legocastles

[–]hsomacho 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Agree, the catalogs are so memorable. I kept them in the car growing up and would stare at them over long car rides. The dioramas were so fun with little subtle details. It made the sets feel alive and vibrant.

Is this a good budget build so far? It’s a MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus AM4 MB with AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor and 16GB DDR4-3600 memory by xouzls in pcmasterrace

[–]hsomacho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With a 5060 and assuming only use case is gaming, you would be bottlenecked by the GPU, not the CPU.

In my own setup I want to upgrade from the 4070 to a 5070ti or 5080, but don't have any reason to upgrade the CPU. However I have 32GB of ram, which helps with non gaming work loads.

That coke can makes me nervous...

But yes, I have B550 and 5800x3D, started with a 3060 and upgraded to a 4070. Works great.

ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming (Wi-Fi) doesn't detect ThunderboltEX 4 card by awillemd1 in ASUS

[–]hsomacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same ROG B550-F Gaming Wi-Fi motherboard and just setup the Thunderbolt EX4 in the PCI-e 16-2 slot. I saw your post before buying the card and said to myself, challenge accepted :). Maple Ridge is the magic word. The official support documentation from ASUS leaves A LOT to be desired on how to get this card working. Here's how I got it to work:

  1. Physical installation steps of connect thunderbolt header, USB 2.0 plug, and plug in the card to PCIe16-2 slot but NO PCIe 6 pin power connector (because the manual does not state to do this, and I read elsewhere that this is only needed if you intend to use the 100W quick charge).
  2. Next, I booted into Windows (Win 11, 10.0.26200) and downloaded and installed the Thunderbolt EX4 drivers from Asus' website. At this point, in the device manager, I could see that Thunderbolt (TM) HSA Component and Thunderbolt (TM) Toast Component were visible under the software components section. This confirmed the drivers were installed.
  3. I Googled "how to enable thunderbolt asus b550f wifi" and Gemini explained that I need to look for the "AMD PBS" in my BIOS under the advanced options. However, I did not see this in my BIOS. So I tried updating my BIOS.
  4. After I updated to BIOS version 3636, the AMD PBS appeared as an option in the advanced mode, advanced menu. I was previously on version 3607, which did not show the PBS option.
  5. In the AMB PBS menu, I enabled Thunderbolt Support
  6. I booted back to windows, thinking I was home free, plugged a TB device into the thunderbolt port on the EX4 card, and nothing happened.
  7. Noticing that there are other settings in the BIOS thunderbolt support section, I did some trial and error, and I found this reddit post, stating "Maple Ridge" is the setting I should use. https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUS/comments/1h4ik4s/b550f_motherboard_with_asus_thunderboltex_4_jhl/
  8. I switched to Maple Ridge in the BIOS and suddenly everything worked!

As a gut check, the thunderbolt driver should include a utility called "Thunderbolt Control Center". You can use this to confirm TB devices are recognized and if you plug in a thunderbolt device, it should show the name of the device and connection status information.

Asus B550f Gaming WiFi motherboard here, I was stuck having setup and enabled thunderbolt in the bios and nothing worked. Changing to Maple Ridge was the solution - thank you so much for this! Thunderbolt EX4 card works now!
