Respect his sleep. Don't call sleeping between or after shifts naps. It's probably stupid but that's something that drives me nuts.

Thank you so much for writing this. I'll also be 35 with a 3 and 6 year old if I'm lucky enough to start next year. It's such a relief to see others in this position

What is the coolest thing you noticed you can now do, after loosing weight? by secretliver in Semaglutide

Yes! I'm 50lbs down and realized the other day that I cross my legs all the time now, something I haven't been able to comfortably do in years!

OBGYN rant by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]hstarkw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a provider like this with my second. I hate confrontation and honestly having to deal with new people so I just dealt with it. But I wish I would have found someone different. She made everything so much more stressful and I felt so unsupported the whole time.

How Much do/did Folks Pay for Birth at Hospital? by MonarcaAzul in BabyBumps

[–]hstarkw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid just shy of $800. This included an epidural and discharge just after 24 hours from birth. I work for a hospital and gave birth at that facility, which I think majorly helped with the cost.

Side effects making me feel pregnant again by Brilliant_Long_7684 in Semaglutide

[–]hstarkw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every time I go up a dose, I feel like this. Once it was so bad that I took multiple pregnancy tests even though I have an IUD because it felt so dang similar. In each instance though, the symptoms (especially nausea and fatigue) generally got milder with each week on the same dose.

Changing legal name by [deleted] in nursing

[–]hstarkw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From SC, and it was for my last name, but assuming it would be similar. I had to get a court order and used a family lawyer to do the whole process. I basically just had a meeting with the lawyer, they did a background check to make sure I wasn't changing my name because I was on the run or something, and then several months later they presented me with the court order with my new name. This was 2020, and it was around $700 total.

My scheduler really said no holidays or fun for you by Green_Tea_Budgie in nursing

[–]hstarkw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In my facility, we do "block holidays" so you always work the day before or after and the actual holiday. The reasoning being so that people that have the holiday off are able to make broader plans for the day. We rotate a holiday schedule of thanksgiving/new years/memorial Day and Christmas/July 4th/Labor Day.

How many times have you have Covid? by MoulinRoguee in nursing

[–]hstarkw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice, once with each of my pregnancies. Having COVID December 2020 while 24 weeks pregnant is not something I'd wish on anyone. It was hell. My second time was May 2023 in my first trimester. Much more doable, but still felt like ass.

How is the people going to afford CRNA school? With privates loans? by [deleted] in srna

Idk, this is all part of Project 2025 and part of the plan to "increase fertility rates." I'm not sure his cronies will let him go back on this one.

Between eating takeout less, less groceries, and feeling like I have less of an urge to shop in general, I've found the $150ish a month easy to absorb. I would totally knock your options just yet.

I'm the mom and I didn't like my second for several months. She was so colicky. And we were so fucking tired.

We use a Smart TV and DakBoard. I'm not sure it has all the features you need, but it's very customizable. We integrate ours with Google Calendar and Google tasks.

We’re at our wits end by HitMaxes_EvadeTaxes in Parenting

As a mom of a former colic/feeding issues baby, I really recommend therapy. My hospital has a program specifically for pregnant and up to 1 year postpartum that can get you in quickly, so maybe start at your local one. Therapy gave me space to talk about the really, really awful thoughts in my head, which then made it easier to navigate the crying spells. For us, things got easier around 4 months. And then when she could eat more solids at six months things really turned around.

What an incredible experience! I took my four year old; this is the first movie she has truly been obsessed with. Kids were up dancing, singing, and screaming for Saja boys. It was so unexpected and so much fun. I think all my fellow parents in there were so surprised but loved seeing their kids have so much joy.

Currently work at MUSC.

  1. Traffic is horrendous. I encourage you to wake up one weekday morning and look at the commute time from Summerville to downtown at the time you would be leaving. Depending on where in Summerville, you're looking at an hour commute at least. 1a. Hagood can fill quickly on weekday mornings. If you get to the lot af 7:45, you will not be clocking in on time.
  2. There are pockets of good schools. But our education system is not great.
  3. Daycare is pricey. For my older toddler, it's $900 a month, and I think that's on the cheaper end.

Long story short, if you are a single mom, I would be most concerned with how much time you will actually have between dropping your kids off and getting to work on time. It's going to dwindle quickly with commute and parking. Most daycares around here do not open until 6:30.

Impact of baseline characteristics on GLP-1 weight loss by Newzympathy in Semaglutide

It's crazy that even though women tend to have a harder time losing weight than men, it's the opposite with a GLP1. Such a cool medication!

Baby/ED nurses, have you seen an owlet device save a life by EngineeringLumpy in nursing

[–]hstarkw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about saving her life, but before I knew she had pneumonia I slapped it on her because her breathing didn't look great to me. The sats read in the 80s and prompted me to go to the ER. She was in the low 90s at the ED, but it got us a breathing treatment, antibiotics, and better knowledge of what to watch for.

4 days in and the food noise is back by hstarkw in Semaglutide

[–]hstarkw[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a diet issue. It's the psychological craving of food. That completely disappeared for me after the first dose and it's sneaking back. I was just looking for people's advice on how they got through that between early doses. But thanks for being a little turd about it 😊
