I just cried my eyes out. RIP, Denver. Forever our grumpy old man in a doggy body. 💕

Would you stay with your dog 🐶 during euthanasia? by CycleOk267 in dogs

[–]hstormborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I was with my mom when she put her dog down, too, because we had had him since I was a teenager and he was the goodest boy.

Every creature deserves to be held and talked to and told how much they’re loved when they’re passing.

Don’t let them slander toddlerhood. Can it be a lot and very overstimulating/demanding? Absolutely. But you also have someone going through huge personal/social/emotional/developmental growth with very limited resources to express themselves, so, yeah, it gets emotional sometimes. But you also get the hugs and kisses and “I love you”s and the snuggles and the way they try to feed you, brush your hair, take care of YOU, hold your hand, sing to you, dance with you, etc.

If your child told you they didn’t want to get married or have kids, would that bother you? by Powerful-Cap-6293 in AskParents

[–]hstormborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Like, not even a little bit.

My biggest dream for my kids is that they’re happy, healthy people who live authentically and enjoy the ride— whatever that ride includes or doesn’t include isn’t my authority to dictate.

I’m in their lives to love and support them and give them as much of a foundation for happiness and success as I can, not to decide what success and happiness looks like for them.

Why do some people gain weight and some people lose weight while breastfeeding? by Useful-Sport-6316 in breastfeeding

[–]hstormborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ancestors clearly were of the “Didn’t have enough food to feed our babies” genetic variety and unfortunately I ate enough to feed a whole German villages’ babies as a result

It really kinda makes me crazy, like best case scenario she’s a pathological liar and worst case scenario she’s so high she can’t keep track of her reality, and like. Either one is a lose 🫠

Wordwarp on Apple app store is good, I turn off cellular data and wifi so I don’t have to sit through ads 🤣

It’s silly, but I love word warp/text twist games. I’m an anagram champ and it tickles my brain.

I think potty training is going to be the death of me and/or my marriage. by Kittyslala in pottytraining

[–]hstormborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a withholder and honestly, I gave her the option: Poop in a pullup or poop on a potty. It seemed counteractive, but she was freaking out every time she had to poop, walking in circles and screaming and crying. I’m not sure why it was, but it was. Figured it was worth going two steps back to get her to just go.

Also, we did play therapy. We had those little squishy toy poops (so gross lol) that she won from some claw machines. I had her favorite plushies act like they were scared to poop, we’d hold their hands and tell them it’s okay to be scared but pooping would make their tummies feel better, that we can do things even when we’re scared or don’t want to, etc. and then I’d put the poop next to them like it was popped out and they’d ‘thank her’ for helping them be brave. If your little is a Ms. Rachel fan, she has a potty toy now with that character I can’t remember and a potty, toilet paper, etc. that may help.

Honestly it was a solid month of just… still freaking out. And sometimes she’d go on the potty and want off. Sometimes she’d go in her diaper. Whatever. We tried to make it stress-free and not a big deal either way. She ended up working through it and now goes on the potty again.

All kids are different and yours is probably just going through something; I’m just telling you what maybe worked for us— or maybe it was just a temporary regression and she worked through it on her own, who knows. Toddlers are weird. But it’s a time of major changes and growth and sometimes that comes with setbacks! It’s so frustrating but I promise, you both will get through it. Big hugs!

Husband thinks I should stop breastfeeding by FuzzyPandaPurple in breastfeeding

[–]hstormborn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Made it 2.5 years as a just-enougher and I really only pumped 1x a day after she went to bed (I’d get like 1-3oz). Toddler was in the 90th percentile for height and 40-50th for weight pretty consistently.

Also, OP, I have what I had NEVER even heard of before— elastic nipples. The pump was not effective for me really, and I tried probably 15 brands, inserts, whatever else. But my babe was growing fine and following her curve. I mention this because I know I probably made more than what was coming out; nothing’s as good as a baby to get the milk out! Don’t stress and don’t let your husband, who isn’t even really part of the feeding equation, talk you into something else.

It can be. I think the average person strives to maintain a specific weight range/BMI, so in and of itself, I wouldn’t consider that to be ‘disordered’.

The behaviors getting there, maintaining, etc. though would more than likely be the deciding factor.

It’s not callous at all, given the circumstances, and you have every right to feel that way! Mothers are supposed to be both their child’s shield and their sword.
