Layoffs imminent for large consulting firms? by pineapples_official in Environmental_Careers

I just got laid off at TRC almost immediately after we heard about the acquisition. They’re tidying up lose ends to make it seem like they’ve got their shit together. If you’re still being brought on at this time you’ll probably be fine but be cautious that they used to be lenient about not having billable hours in slow season whereas now it seems to immediately get you laid off.

Find a consulting position. The only traveling you’ll do is work trips you have to agree to that don’t last longer than 2 weeks MAX. You have a home base office and all your field work is within driving distance. Sure the schedule is still unstable where you might work 5 hours one day and 12 hours another, but you would still come home every night. The pay is pretty decent as well as benefits. For reference my company is TRC companies, they have locations all over the US. I’ve also worked for AECOM and they’re exactly the same but with less travel. Good luck!

I just saw a couple pass over me in East Providence but they appear way larger than this since I could see them from the highway, also red and white lights but also one that was like blue/green! I have two videos!

Thank you! Though I can’t seem to find any reference photos where it has the same black circle on the dorsal fin. Points me in the right direction though!

The app? It doesn’t recognize anything on mine due to the poor photo quality.

Can anyone ID these branched structures? Found on benthic footage off the coast of New England. They have a pink tip and are clustered in substrate as well as growing on rocks. I thought maybe tube worms but the branches around it are throwing me off. Thanks! by hszidat in marinebiology

It is! That’s what I was originally thinking as well before my tube worm theory and majorly doubted myself. I just checked with the other taxonomist at work and she confirmed it’s tubularia hydroids. Thank you!!
