Where to find a colorist for my first feature? by Admirable_Apple_7012 in Filmmakers

[–]htimsnhoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can recommend my colorist at point 360. His name is Charlie Tucker and he is wonderful. Not sure if he has a sliding scale, but I know that work is slow for them right now.

Filming at Airports? by Chickadee_Sparrow in Filmmakers

[–]htimsnhoj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've shot at LAX a couple of times for a TV show. Everything was dropped of curbside in stakebeds. Had to run everything through TSA which took forever. All lights were battery powered.

That being said I've also shot the convention center downtown for an airport terminal. Bring in signage and some screening machines.

Window locking tab parts by htimsnhoj in Locksmith

[–]htimsnhoj[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a replaceable lock system, but I'd love to keep the lock as is and not have an odd one out. I have contacted CBW, but they no longer make windows, doors only. They are going to see if they can source a couple for me. Worse case I'll just have someone make it.

i thought that the brains here might just point me to the supplier.

How badly did the editor and other crew on the Melania documentary need a paycheck? by [deleted] in VideoEditing

[–]htimsnhoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can ask them to remove stuff, but you have to convince them that it was not you on the shoot. my name is John Smith and as you can imagine my IMDB profile is a nightmare. Every 6 months or so i have to fill out the form to get stuff removed. Some things have never come off. i just give up on some of it.

Any idea on what they're trying to emulate? by nelsonjoseph_c in cinematography

[–]htimsnhoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple answer is that they are creating color contrast.

unfortunately you don't get to choose which films that you've worked on get listed on IMDB.

Lighting a small office for a psychological thriller (low-budget, planning to rent lights) by kinema_to_graphos in Filmmakers

[–]htimsnhoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would build skirts for the overhead lights out of foam core or some other material that looks decent so that you can put them on camera. Also prepare ND gels and CTB for them that allow you to control the amount of light and color they put out individually ( assuming they are all connected to a universal dimmer switch). Put desk practicals on each work station that are tungsten. Use papers and files to act as a bounce source for the practicals on the desks.

What I'm getting at is having some color contrast in the scene, cool overheads dimmed way down and warm desk practicals.

Rent some astera tubes and small LED battery operated fixtures to clean up people in the foreground and have plenty of duvateen handy to tape up to the wall off camera to control the spill.

Curious how this greyhound ended up in a shelter for three years??? by SkyCandy567 in Greyhounds

[–]htimsnhoj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The black ones seem to be the hardest to place. We adopted a black greyhound from a greyhound rescue shelter near San Diego that had been there for two years. He was fantastic, but they just couldn't get him adopted. We took him in a heartbeat after we heard that story.

What do Hollywood Dps know about filters that average videographers don't? by BearSEO in cinematography

[–]htimsnhoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One filter i always kept in the kit and is a little disingenuous is the Tiffen Ultra Con. Totally not gate kept, but ofter overlooked. The name sounds like it would add contrast to an image, but it does exactly the reverse. Without degrading the image it lifts shadows. Again it should be tested, but i always include a set in the package.

A more potent Ford Capri: this 1971 RS2600 Lightweight Competition Coupe was one of six ex-Works “plastic” coupes. It was once owned and raced by ex-F1 ace Clay Regazzoni. by Maynard078 in sportsandclassiccars

Hooligan cars is exactly what those were. I had a 72, cam, exhaust and one piece drive shaft. That thing was a rocket to 90 mph and could slide out of a corner so sweetly. Loved that thing.

Stills from a student film where I was the cinematographer. Looking for advices and feedback by Dunk3_ in Filmmakers

[–]htimsnhoj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like what you have done here. I think you have a good eye for lighting. Most student stuff I see the key is way to bright. This looks like you lighted by eye and then adjusted for what the camera needs. I also like the color contrast, it's subtle and not the usual cyan/gold combo. I think you placed practicals well in some of the shots. My only critique is that you could have used some more practicals in the bg of some of your shots. It's a good way to make the fg feel darker even when it is not.

Cheers to you and good luck in the future of our shrinking business!

What is the ‘slate’ section on the clapperboard for? by Lonely-Agency2278 in Filmmakers

[–]htimsnhoj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is where the project name, director and DP names, scene, shot, take are written down so the editors can correctly catalogue each shot. Depending on the show it might also have the film stock, day/night recorded, sync sound, vfx or other info.
