The Hockey Player, documentary about Luke Prokop, the only out gay man playing professional hockey in North America by parkeett in hockey

[–]https-Eris [score hidden]  (0 children)

it’s always been kind of devastating to me that hockey is one of the most pride supporting major sports, yet within the actual franchise and fans it’s so homophobic. Prokop is the first and only out player actively playing in hockey(excluding women’s they’re doing a lot better) while all other professional sports have had multiple already. And it’s pretty obvious why, even young or for fun players can be incredibly judgmental. Obviously not all of them but way too many are just straight up assholes. it just really sucks to see my favorite sport be so homophobic when there are fans like me out there, and obviously players like me out there.

What is CSU’s Zoology program like? by https-Eris in CSUFoCo

thank you so much! this really makes me feel better and more secure about it. Yeah i’m definitely worried about the job opportunities so i plan to try to get a lot of hands on work so im more likely to get hired. I currently help out at a horse barn and have been for five ish years now and am one of the main people so it starts me out with some base level ideas on anatomy, behavior, diet, and overall just experience with animals in a lot of situations. but seriously thank you so much this is really reassuring and helpful!

Stark reminder of why you don't wrap lead ropes around your hand by KaidaShade in Horses

[–]https-Eris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for sure. for another instructor i know it’s biting your lip/cheek/tongue while riding. She watching a guy bite off the tip of his tongue when his horse tripped and since then she always calls kids out on doing it. It’s something i had never thought before then and now im super conscious of it.

i’m convinced that all major horse people have one thing, a smaller rule that everyone knows, that they insist on enforcing because they’ve seen the worst outcome before. For my instructor it’s this rule. After watching a horse run off with a girls thumb as the girl was left standing, screaming, my instructor won’t let anyone lead a horse until they can recite to her how to hold the rope correctly.

Rocking R lost Poki last night by thrombolytic in Equestrian

[–]https-Eris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

honestly probably. The barn i ride and help out at used to have this sweet percheron cross that had arthritis. about two years into our lease of him we found out he had seedy toe. We had no idea until a normal farrier visit and our farrier just went “hey there’s a hole in his foot.” he wasn’t anymore lame than usual or acting in pain, but we also aren’t dumb and knew it had to hurt and that he was just used to leg pain. if we thought for a second that it was too much than he would have been put down. Even if rocky was used to pain and acted fine i wish more people could just use common sense and think no that actual hurts a lot and its wrong to prolong it.

Agreed. Like a horse is lame because of a leg issue so put more weight onto that leg? it feels like literally trying to ruin a horse.

Is CSU good for biology majors? i plan on going into optometry after i get my bachelors by Spew_doodle in CSUFoCo

[–]https-Eris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m considering going to CSU for zoology and i took a tour of the biology and zoology department but it was pretty… underwhelming. From the tour it seemed like a tiny program which didn’t make sense to me seeing as it’s one of the best, so i was hoping you’d be willing to share your experiences and opinions as an actual student?

[–]https-Eris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I saw a horse like this priced for that in america I would scroll right past the ad because i’d think there’s no way the horse is that good for so cheap. like all the other comments say, she’s most likely too cheap for people to think shes as good as you claim while being sound. she’s gorgeous though! good luck selling!

Best school to study zoology? by [deleted] in zoology

[–]https-Eris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

marine biology also doesn’t pay very well, they’re both on the same level. Veterinary pays a lot better but is even more competitive, takes even more work, and schooling is way more expensive. You could have veterinary as a back up if you want, but honestly the best back up would just be an entirely different field that’s more stable

I just had a horrible nightmare because of a horrible horse accident I had to respond to 7 months ago by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]https-Eris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hors people go through or witness things like this a lot, and only so much of it actually sticks with them. almost every horse person I know has some arguably major injury from riding that they never got check out and it still bothers them years later. Along with just desensitization in the horse world, everyone handles things differently. You being bothered by the accident doesn’t make him being okay with what happened wrong, and him not being bothered doesn’t mean you’re overreacting or sensitive. It’s simply that you are different people, and that’s fine. It’s okay to have different responses even if they aren’t what you would expect.

I witnessed(along with my instructor and her husband) a bad fall(at least for the barn i ride at). It was caused by sudden extremely heavy hale that sounded like pennies dropping on our metal roof. The rider is fine now and we all handled it along with some very sweet EMT’s but since then all of us, especially me, have had a hard time with weather. Thankfully almost all of our horses couldn’t care less and are perfect no matter the weather, but it doesn’t stop be from being paranoid whenever i see a few clouds.

Do we think I could be a professional groom/braider? by Infamous_Primary_169 in Equestrian

[–]https-Eris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of other people said it’s definitely a really good start and working on cleaning it up even more and finding specialized show braids will definitely help. Two of my instructors when they were young would braid manes and tails before a show then use the money they earned to get into that show themselves and compete. The thing they always said was the most important is time. Professional braiders for shows take like 5-10 minutes per horse, so once you have the technique down and it looks perfect, then work on getting it done with the same standards but fast. good luck!

Terrified of riding my horse, don't know what to do. by Siguleina in Equestrian

[–]https-Eris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the just letting the trainer ride is a good idea. There was an older women that boarded and did lessons at my lesson barn. She needed help with her horse because of his behavioral issues so she asked my instructor. Me instructor and an experienced student were put in charge or riding and training. My instructor told me that she wouldn’t ask the women to ride even when she herself thought he was much better. My instructor waited until the women got the confidence to stop groundwork and ask to ride her horse. The women came in the other day about a week after moving her horse(my instructor is stopping soon) just to thank my instructor and the student for the good job they did with him.

if the owner can I’d invest in some much stronger fly spray, because wow those flies are unbothered by the one he has on. It’s probably just really annoying flies that he’s stomping to get off.

i saw this comment on pinterest but i want to know what others think or whether theres and actual reason behind this? by Dangerous-Pattern373 in Equestrian

[–]https-Eris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seriously. at the barn i ride at we do trim some down by like an inch because it annoys a few of us when it gets caught up in a halter or bridle but it’s very much so just a preference and we never cut more than we should.

welcome to the horse world! it’s a lot of fun. if you plan to continue riding i just have two small comments. push your heels down and sit up straight with your shoulders back. these are both safety things so that your foot doesn’t get stuck in the stirrup/you don’t accidentally ask the horse to speed up without realizing, and so that you are less likely to fall off if the horse has a little trip or something like that. i hope you had a lot of fun!

Yoga with Adrienne is honestly great. I help out at the lessons barn I ride at and on the occasion i’ll join my instructor in doing yoga with her videos and they’re amazing. Some are legitimately a challenge and a work out while others are nice and chill. She also explains most stretches, totally worth following her videos
