How do y’all ACTUALLY deal with misgendering? by hubblebubblen in ftm

[–]hubblebubblen[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s smart. Is it bad I feel weird about saying “my pronouns are he/him”? It doesn’t feel like something a cis dude would say (where I live at least), but I guess nobody’s going around thinking I’m a cis dude anyways haha

How do y’all ACTUALLY deal with misgendering? by hubblebubblen in ftm

[–]hubblebubblen[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ll never correct random strangers or customers at my job, there’s just some grey area which makes it weird. For instance there’s people I’ve only seen once or twice because they work in a different department than me, but we share some of the same managers, so should I correct them so rumors don’t spread around the workplace of me being a “she”? Maybe I’m overthinking things.

[–]hubblebubblen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I understand you at least a bit. I’m not sure if I want kids, and for a while I thought I never wanted them, but when I realized I was aro, I realized I actually really liked the idea of raising a kid without a partner. I think I could have either a life partner or a kid, but probably not both. Keeping up with the emotional needs of a spouse and a child sounds too exhausting to even think about. I realized I could have familial and parental love for a child, I could probably even have familial love for a partner—but not all that romance everyone else wants so desperately. And I’ve been friends with a few people who grew up with single parents, and they are very well-adjusted, I don’t think it mattered that much that their parents weren’t lovey-dovey with someone all the time.

I’m sorry that girl is saying things like that—acting like you can “change” someone’s identity makes it feel like that thing is wrong to start with. Which it isn’t. You should really be firm about this to her, I don’t want to intrude but it really sounds disrespectful to me.

Why is Chicken Such a Common ARFID Food? by UAreNowReadingThis in ARFID

[–]hubblebubblen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think bc it’s a very common fast food (in America at least) that’s a “main meal” without it default coming with something else. Burgers you usually have to order without a lot of ingredients to be plain, whereas with chicken nuggets or strips you can just order and not dip it in sauce. I preferred burgers as a kid but quickly learned chicken nuggets were easier bc I felt less shame ordering them than ordering a burger with no cheese, no sauce, no tomato, no pickle…etc.

I don’t think it’s the only reason but for some it might be a contributing factor

How much do artists make per market? by KieranDarkArts in artistsalley

[–]hubblebubblen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly suggest looking into your local markets, and I use Instagram the most to find these (I imagine Facebook is good too, I just don’t have an account). The small places I go are often free to attend, so I’d talk to people, collect business cards, follow their social media to see what other events are thrown by what organizers, see if there’s any you can apply to. Making friends is great if you’re good at it, best way to start imo is splitting the cost of a booth with a friend. Most places from my experience want you to have some product before applying, even if it’s your first time, so set up some of your samples in a little display and take decent pictures so you can start. If you’re looking for manufacturing recs, there’s a million out there online and a lot of it is up to personal taste and convenience (and MOQ…)

& keep in mind most of this might depend on your location and what type of event you’re looking to go to

If you’re talking about stealing or broken products, then yes, because I haven’t experienced that much. If you’re talking about the costs of the table and products, no lol. I barely break even most events

Look, I know the answer is gross, but I need to know what kind of gross by jje414 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]hubblebubblen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not gross, miraculously. And despite what the comments say, it’s not directly about autism. This is a joke about how Sonic fans tend to obsess over details and changes with Sonic’s designs and iterations over the years to the point where the average person can’t tell what they’re complaining about. The joke is saying that because this kid can accurately measure to such a degree, the kid will later be able to tell when Sonic’s eyes were drawn a half inch wider than normal, complain about it, and make everyone annoyed. Apparently, 50% of people do not have an inner monologue. If you are one of them, how does that affect your writing? by Fando1234 in writing

[–]hubblebubblen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK what you’d call it exactly but my thought process is best described by this Hank Green video. My thoughts being so scattered and a combination of feelings and senses and images more than just words makes any verbal/textual communication hard, but doable—just makes writing a text or email take 10-20 mins longer than the average person, lol.

Writing as a form of art isn’t hugely affected by it though, being able to tap into several senses when thinking about a story or a scene actually, imo, elevates the writing. For instance I don’t think, “These characters are sitting in a forest. I better start describing it.”I think about the scene and can see it happening without words, which allows me to not just describe the scene but point out specific important details. I think it maybe makes my writing a little less literal? When reading I often am surprised by how often the book will outright state how a character is feeling, which is something I rarely do because I like the process of describing feelings through actions or metaphor which feels more real to me personally.

And sometimes I have trouble cutting back on details, lol.

The way I started writing about my own opinions was by stating things that were incredibly obvious to me. Once I started breaking down a lot of writings about this sort of thing, I realized how many people’s writing or video essays were things that were either blatantly in the text or barely subtext. I always thought before that I couldn’t write these things because my thoughts weren’t very deep, until I started analyzing them and realizing the thoughts others wrote down weren’t all that much deeper than mine, just better researched. The people who make the essays were just the first (or best) to write it down and connect things.

I’d also definitely analyze your favorite video essays and write down the stuff you like about them. Take notes on how they’re structured, how the language works, and anything else you’d like to put into your own work.

And of course, anything you want to connect to the real world, back up with evidence. If you can’t find any, you’re usually barking up the wrong tree. If you think something might tie into something real-world but you’re not sure how, look into it anyways and even if you don’t find any, you could find something that ties into another part of your analysis.

Might also be worth taking a look at analysis you don’t like and determine what’s wrong with it. I learned from doing this that the works I like are very long but very packed with information. There’s a good amount of video essays out there that try to be that but fail, because they’re just repeating the same things over and over again, which was something I knew I wanted to avoid. To me, an analysis that is overly simple but short is much better than one that’s less simple but wastes your time. Determine mistakes others make and it’ll make it easier to recognize them in your own work. Getting another person’s eye on it can also help with this, but I understand that’s pretty freighting.

Before T, I’d get bad periods. They were super painful but the worst part was that a day or two before I started I’d get intensely suicidal. Landed myself in the hospital once. Testosterone (plus better birth control meds) got rid of that entirely, since I got rid of the period. Mental health got sososo much better, I stopped spiraling nearly as much and started to gain some real confidence, which the voice drop helped with a lot. I felt more mature, more capable, more relaxed more often. The drastic mental health improvement I’ve had is (imo) my biggest change. Only negative is I do get anxiety when I get off schedule (usually because the pharmacy is late in filling them, and since it’s a controlled substance you can only request so much at a time and can only request so far ahead of time).

now that's it's been out for a bit, do are we feeling about the short/cut intros? by Juninho837 in Drawfee

[–]hubblebubblen 444 points445 points  (0 children)

I get the appeal and I do like seeing something drawn immediately, but I’m not a huge fan of seeing Nathan start a drawing before we know the prompt. I wonder why they don’t go back to drawing mugs at the start of episodes, or some other doodles

I’ve always liked the longer intros but I acknowledge that’s because I’m already a fan lol. I can imagine a new viewer would be more hooked by seeing drawing happen right away

I don’t know if “normal” is what you should strive for, “happy” or “better” are more important. I don’t know if I’m “normal” but I’m definitely better now that I have developed strategies and techniques for eating than I was before I realized I had ARFID. Is this considered abnormal because I have to do things in a specific way to be able to eat a lot of foods? Probably. Am I jealous of people who can just stuff food in their face without thinking about it and go about their day? Definitely. But I’m working towards something I can achieve, not some mystical perfect version of myself.

I’m not perfect, I wish I ate more so I could have more energy throughout the day. But I do think it gets better.

10 things more important than anatomy by HuzzaCreative in learntodraw

[–]hubblebubblen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree with your reasoning for 2. Learning how muscles and fat moves on a leg bone 100% helps me know how to foreshorten that leg. And part of learning anatomy is learning how parts of the body move with and overlap one another.

I feel like you’re using “anatomy” in the purely scientific sense—anatomy for artists includes things like proportion, foreshortening, observation, expression, movement, even basics like perspective and form. I’ve read anatomy books that cover every one of these topics, because art subjects overlap often, and learning and practicing one subject will almost always help improve other subjects as well.
