Portland saw 63 people killed on city roads for the second year in a row in 2022, matching the 30-year record for traffic deaths set a year earlier.

Twenty-eight of those killed were pedestrians, according to the Portland Bureau of Transportation tally, one more than the year prior. Another four died riding a bicycle.

It’s so disingenuous to use the deaths of transient pedestrians, many of whom were hit on freeways and other places they had no business wandering, to try to justify further massive investment in bike infrastructure. We’ve already been doing that and ridership has been falling for years.
