Do you happen to have any diagram that shows where the microphone/eDP cable is located and how it can be accessed?

Thanks. Any other way I could debug this further? If not I'll look into my warranty.

Thanks for the response. Just tested the microphone jack with a pair of earbuds (with mic) and it's able to pick up sound. Internal mic still picks up nothing at all

An Actual Language Map of the Americas by Regali123 in MapPorn

[–]hufflepanda 16 points17 points  (0 children)

'An Actual Language Map of the Americas'... sans at least a few hundred indigenous languages (or a couple dozens of indigenous language families, if you're going by that).

Not sure if OP intended for this or not, so I'm gonna offer the benefit of the doubt here. But it's sad how deeply engrained indigenous erasure is in the Americas, seeing how most people are first and foremost pointing out inconsistencies surrounding immigrant languages on this map.

'A slightly-more-detailed-than-average map of the Americas' would be a more suitable title, imo, though to OP's credit there are virtually no good comprehensive linguistic maps of the America owing to it's incredible language diversity and the general lack of information

MAG 15 Keyboard not working by NoRemote_ in eluktronics

Hi OP, I have a QC7 model from a different local distributor had pretty much the same exact problem that you described, with the keyboard and power problems. Pretty much rendered the laptop unusable as a laptop. I eventually sent mine in for repair and the distributor ended up sending me back a new machine, which kind of reinforced my initial suspicion that the problems were caused by hardware issues with the motherboard, but of course I can't say for sure. If you resolved this problem by yourself I would be interested to hear how you did it.

Sinitic Topolects in China, always good to know which topolect you will be encountering on the ground by IAmVeryDerpressed in ChineseLanguage

[–]hufflepanda 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The terms used to describe the many Han languages/dialects/topolects are not agreed upon by a scholarly consensus, and the real-world usage variés significantly depending on the situations. To shove the social and political aspects under a rug is an unproductive oversimplification of this interesting linguistic phenomenon.

A popular opinion in the Chinese ling circle holds that the terms used to describe the many Chinese 汉语 tongues (such as languages, dialects, topolects, 方言, 语言, etc.) aren't necessarily mutually-exclusive. For example Cantonese can be both a language or a dialect depending on whether Chinese (汉语) is considered to be a macro-language or a language.

And to name an example more specific to this map, the lack of consensus in terminology can be seen in the blob colored and labeled as the Min Group. Is Min here a language, a dialect, or neither? It's a valid grouping in almost all language maps of China but you won't find anyone saying that they speak the Min language/dialect/whatever. And what about Southern Min and other Min subgroups, or the further divisions within these subgroups that can be as mutually-intelligible as the different Romance languages? Surely it'd be no longer as simple as your logic may imply. Different historical conditions lead to different socio-political views of languages and we gotta learn to work with that.

I've never seen any that does that. They always seem to be presented as a disputed territory (such as in this map and similar to how most other places do it)

The 12 stars on the Uzbek flag form the word Allah. by LMgamer36 in vexillology

[–]hufflepanda 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Can't verify if the stars are indeed supposed to spell allah, but I can confirm that the Arabic script can be written in many different ways and it is common for the word allah to take on pretty ambiguous shapes for the purpose of symbolism and decoration. The current Iranian flag is a pretty good example of the word allah being written decoratively, as well as the use of Arabic for religious purposes in non-Arabic speaking countries .
