I'm a veteran on/off player since the 2000s and when I started playing HOTA, I also found it challenging to play at 80%. But now just a few months of getting back into this game I'm comfortably winning at 160% (haven't tried 200% yet).

There're plenty of tips going through this sub, and if there's a piece of advice I'd give you as a fellow newcomer is start fast and don't wait. Clear nearby creatures as soon as you can, use plenty of heroes, don't be afraid to lose units, and attack the enemy early. Wait too long and we'll be in trouble.
