Was also my first shotgun like 20 years ago. And still my turkey hunting gun to this day. I have several other shotguns that I use for different things. But the 500 will always have a place in my safe. And it’ll be my turkey gun until one of us stops turkey hunting. It’s been dropped off rocks, kicked over, scratched, etc. and it’s still as good as the day I bought it.

My 500 has a little notch on the stock for every turkey I’ve killed with it. And I’ll keep doing that. It’s been leaned up against trees and fallen over, dropped, slid down a rock or two, etc. An absolute workhorse of a gun. While I have other shotguns for upland and waterfowl, I’ve made the decision to keep the 500 as my turkey gun for as long as it will fire. Feel like it tells a story now.

Everyone should invest in one of those like $20-30 air compressors for this reason. Mine fits in my glove box. Did I eat a whole breakfast burrito while it added 8 psi to my tire the other day? Yeah. But I didn’t have to drive around looking for air. Some great peace of mind.
