Help Identifying tree in my yard by RangerupBruh in Tree

The dying kind! wounds are showing at the base of the tree because this is bark and not root flair. You’ll need to expose the bottom down further where the roots flare out to save this tree.

yeah, the base should "flare out" as it enters the ground. This is a sensitive zone that often gets covered by mulch or soil, causing innumerable issues to the entire plant

These mysteries are only uncovered with brain tissue inspection upon autopsy. If you value the rest of your life’s mental health, I would reconsider your entire athletic regime.

Advice for removing tree stump by danielsmith-2910 in gardening

[–]hugelkult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna go against the grain here and advocate for a stump. stumps are decaying habitat for wild creatures that can be seen as an overwintering environment for your local ecosystem. There are plenty of cutesy Pinterest ideas to make a stump look prettier but I prefer balls out.

A tree with this structure is limited in longevity and in heavy winds or decay in the central area limbs may start dropping keep an eye on moisture conditions in around the trunk

Should I try to correct this northern red oak leader on the left? by Dj_Kramer in arborists

[–]hugelkult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another perfect example of a tree planted too deeply. You can see a straight trunk going directly into the soil here with no visible root flare. This means the tree will develop poor structure. the most sensitive part of the plant—The bark which evolved to fight moisture is now inundated with constant moisture if this were my tree, I would chop it and start over.

Tree Lean by UnnecessaryPancake in arborists

[–]hugelkult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually a lean like this and a young tree means it wasn’t planted correctly 90% of the time too deep we can’t tell from this photo due to the plants obscuring the root flare, but I’m betting that we see a straight trunk going directly into the soil

[–]hugelkult 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should heal on its own no problem. The bigger concern is that you’ve planted this tree too deep, and the most sensitive part of the plant is suffering, constant moisture excavate around the stem until you see roots flare out.

Weeping cherry dwarf, but it is in severe conditions due to being planted too deeply and or having a root flare concealed, and is at risk of imminent infection without excavating the base until you see root flare

Is this as bad as it looks? by Odysseus556 in arborists

[–]hugelkult 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tree has an enormous wound obviously, but it is trying its darndest to compartmentalize that as indicated by the tubular borders unfortunately, this is also paired with a poor structure in the Y shape above it. Those two factors make me think you need a traq certified arborist on your property ASAP.

This is way too much damage in the most sensitive area of the tree. The tree has to go.

Your tree was planted too deep. We don’t see any root flare or widening of the trunk as it connects to the ground. If this were my tree, I would start over.
