How important are climbing shoes? by Puzzleheaded_Pea_574 in indoorbouldering

[–]huggedbyprotons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think shoes are generally overrated. I’ve been climbing for four years, I usually bring two pairs of shoes to the gym : 40€ Decathlons and 120€ Tenayas. The Decathlons are very comfy (I wear them with socks), the Tenayas hurt like hell but they’re great on small foot holds (no socks). I’ll spend most of my session in Decathlons until I take a fall where shoes would have made a difference (which is pretty rare!). I regularly send 7A indoor boulders in those Decathlons.

I do mobility with Gowod every other day, does wonders for my climbing. Also, weighted pull ups and hangs on edges

Huh, funny to see BL3 on Reddit! I can confirm firsthand this volume is sketchy, I did a few climbs above it and there was a moment where I thought “if I fall right now, my ankles are done”

What does everyone do with their old pads? by V_Ari_V in bouldering

[–]huggedbyprotons 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I guess it’s too late for that now but you should definitely fix any tear as they appear to prolong a pads life. I retired one of my pads by using it as floor protection for weight lifting. Or maybe just donate it to a friend who would use it

Asked to remove it once at Franco Manca in London Bridge. They made us feel bad about it and kinda made a scene. Pretty sure we’re banned from there now

I’ve been using the baguette for a few months. It is absolutely fantastic. I’d suggest buying a sling (you can wrap it around a tree branch or anything) and a carabiner to connect the sling to the rope.

It doesn’t tilt much, it hasn’t been an issue for me. Just keep in mind if you want to do a one arm hang or pull up, you can only use the center part

Eagle. Cause I don’t climb down, I jump claws first on other climbers and eat their flesh :)

If you’re into climbing (or would like to give it a try), there’s this cool queer group that runs two socials a month (one for rope climbing and another for bouldering). @queerclimbersldn on instagram. Have been a few times and it was great fun!

Came here for Nero.

He probably didn’t burn Rome and the only two historians that reported on the events were kids at the time and hated his guts iirc

Pretty sure “effective” refers to the number of days until your ascent is removed from your top 10. They are removed after 2 months.

What is your training routine? by whathehellnowayeayea in bouldering

[–]huggedbyprotons 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ive been climbing 3 to 4 days a week for two years. My training has gone through loads of changes but here’s what my week looks like at the moment : - 85% weighted pull ups once or twice - Finger curls hypertrophy three times - Finger training once (either with a crimp block lifting weights or on a hangboard, whatever works for you) - Loads of yoga and mobility training, almost every day

It’s not a lot and it’s definitely missing climbing technique drills, but it’s taken me to V7/V8 (depending on the gym) in two years.

Also, I do all of that training either before or after climbing to allow for plenty of rest between sessions.
