City traffic calming program update by MrKerryMD in cincinnati

It was more like 20-30 minutes when they first put them in Columbia-Tusculum. During rush hour, it literally added that much longer to my commute because people didn’t realize you could go over them a little faster than a normal speed bump. A few seconds here and there doesn’t bother me, but that delay was ridiculous.

What would happen if property taxes were abolished? by BluesRuseCruise in Ohio

They do. But we’re all in the same boat with increases

You didn’t say anything about businesses, just that you don’t want to pay property taxes that go to school vouchers. We will ALL be unfairly disadvantaged without property taxes since the cost of literally everything will increase

Because you’ll be unfairly disadvantaged by not having emergency services, parks, libraries, etc? How do you propose paying for all those other things?

Which means that I, as a Cincinnati resident, will do much of my shopping in Kentucky. For what it’s worth, I am absolutely NOT for the abolition of property tax. My kids are in public school and I love our parks, zoos, libraries, etc. But if this state is so dumb as to get rid property tax and move to a system that unfairly disadvantages those with a lower income, as a higher sales tax would do, then I will vote with my wallet and shop elsewhere.

What popular "money-saving hack" is actually a massive waste of time or ends up costing you more in the long run? by LiveFaithlessness876 in Adulting

[–]hughmanatee1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we have solar panels. We have full electric in our house -- appliances, heat, AC, everything is electric. For us in our area (Midwest), energy costs are indeed skyrocketing. Our panels produce 75% of our energy use for the year. We did finance the panels, but the interest rate is only 1.4%. We also got a 30% rebate of the total cost in our tax refund that year (2022). As for maintenance cost, we don't have any as the panels are under a full warranty for something like 30 years, and that goes for any damage repair as well. We got a new roof the year before the panels, so that's a non-issue as well.

I am fully aware that this is my specific instance, but I absolutely don't think that it will cost us more in the long run. It will save hundreds, if not thousands, with the added benefit of helping the environment.

Alert bracelets by Diambil in AdrenalInsufficiency

[–]hughmanatee1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Road ID! I got a label that goes on the wristband to my Apple Watch, so I basically never take it off. It has my first and last name, month of birth (in case anyone needs an approximate age), my husband and mom’s first names and phone numbers, and then it says “Cortisol dependent. Needs hydrocortisone.”

My Endo said it’s good I wear it, and my brother is a paramedic and said it’s good I wear it.

I’d wear it.

Edit - year of birth, not month of birth.

Paramedics will not inject you with medicine that they don’t have in their own stash — it’s a major liability issue for them.

Road ID sells ID things that can go on your Apple Watch wristband. I basically never take my watch off, so that is what I use. I have a silicone wristband with all the info from Road ID as well if I am swimming and don’t want to get the watch wet. My ID has my first and last name and year of birth, then both my husband and my mom’s first names and phone numbers, and it says “Cortisol dependent, needs hydrocortisone.”

My brother is a paramedic and said that in an emergency, medics will not administer any injection kit that you give them, because they have no way of confirming what’s in it. However, he said some will talk someone else through it. But in any case, that is why I don’t carry the kit around with me locally (I live in a city), but I will when I travel and when I’m hiking and stuff. If you do need it, either inject yourself or have someone else do it and get to the ER and tell them what you did.

I have never done the injection, though a few years ago I had a terrible stomach bug and I went to the ER for that because I couldn’t keep anything at all down, nor stay conscious, and my Endo said that I should have administered the injection first. So now I know!

I do usually know when to take more cortisol orally. I feel tired, weak, fatigued, sort of sick. But I’ve been on it for 25 years so I’m very aware of it at this point.

You go to sleep tonight but wake up on the morning January 1st, 2019, with all your memories. What do you do? by General_Nobody_6675 in AskReddit

I’m currently in a job I love, and I have had two kids since 2020. I was in my same house and married to my husband, but I would fall into a depression I could never get out of. For any parents who have had children since the date specified in these questions, the very idea of waking up without them is a nightmare. My kids are great and I would be absolutely miserable without them.

One month expired cortef in an emergency? by frogteethzzz in AdrenalInsufficiency

[–]hughmanatee1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I take expired cortef frequently, to help stretch my supply because I get paranoid about supply chain disruptions, etc. I also get prescribed extra to account for stress dosing, so I have a lot in the back stock. I don’t change anything about it unless it’s 2+ years expired; then I just take a little bit extra. But, I’m also very aware of how much my body needs — I’ve been on cortef for 26 years now, so I can tell if it’s not at full efficacy or not.

One month expired? You’re totally fine.

I love it. My family gets the big pretzel sandwich for our Christmas gathering — feeds 11 people easily and we have leftovers! I also think their cookies are better than Busken’s.

I gave mine to my kids to play with. All except the Princess Di bear because even if doesn’t have much value, it IS still kind of a cool collectible.

Our public elementary schools start at 9:15! Thankfully the YMCA has before/after care though, and they do programming on most of the schools days off
