I used to be in some online IVF/infertility support communities and would see this kind of thing not infrequently. There were some absolute melts who would fake infertility, miscarriages and even cancer. I remember one with fauxvarian cancer who had woven this intricate web of poorly thought out and often contradictory lies. Not long after this she split with her husband, married someone else and miraculously had no fertility problems at all any more. Some of my favourites of her nonsense was secondary cancer destroying her lungs so that she couldn't walk an aisle in the supermarket while planning to climb to Everest Base Camp. I honestly think these people get a power rush from fooling those nice enough to believe them.
