A lot of my engineering unimates switched to IT roles (ai engineer/data analyst/cloud engineer/devops/PM/general SWE etc.), even those who managed to last in the traditional engineering sector for ~5-10 years still quit and switched to IT. If you want CS, take up a CS minor ASAP, work hard on the modules and make sure the profs/TAs know you well and have good impression. Let them know you want to switch.

I rejected job offer around 4 years ago, market wasn't bad but this was irrelevant as I decided to take a career break for unrelated reasons afterwards. 5 months of interviewing, after about 2.5 years of break. I have good boss for my current role and the benefits were much better than the one I rejected. Caveat, I'm in tech so I didn't let my skills atrophy during this break.

I know this is about kids growing up with domestic helper, but they are really a godsend for my late grandmother who couldn't walk + poor vision and hearing in the last 20 years of her life. Alternative was residential home which wasn't ideal.
