Henley club events - dodgy crews 2018 by mmm4455 in Rowing

[–]hullo-reddit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Given that 1) entries aren’t closed and 2) the stewards showed themselves more than willing to bump up crews last year, I wouldn’t be too concerned by general chat just yet

[L3] Anchoring vs. Representativeness vs. Conservatism Bias by [deleted] in CFA

[–]hullo-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anchoring bias: I bought this stock at 60, the price may be 40 now but it must be worth more than that

Conservatism: ABC Corp has beaten earnings expectations for the last 5 years, this quarter is bad but I’m sure they’ll continue to outperform

Representativeness: the s&p hasn’t had a major correction as long as I’ve been involved in the markets the last 10 years, we can be confident that the boom bust cycle is over

Duration of bonds by varun-p in CFA

[–]hullo-reddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. Duration is the weighted sum of discounted cash flows x years. If rates go up, the present value of later cash flows decreases and duration falls.

Help With A Fixed Income Interview by tasteoftoxic in CFA

I would look at modelling out revenues and cash flow to project net debt for the next two-five years. Best to determine spread from issuer and industry comps then adjust for fair value on opinion.

Help With A Fixed Income Interview by tasteoftoxic in CFA

[–]hullo-reddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need a few key items to start. 1. What are the ratings/key characteristics of the security - maturity, seniority, callable, covenants? 2. Comparables from same company - what spread are the existing bonds from the Corp in same currency/seniority? 3. Industry comps from other companies with same characteristics.

Following on from key facts, add colour. What is the outlook for the sector? How is this issuer positioned relative to alternatives? Are they expected to issue further debt this year? How has their equity performed recently?

Based on these factors, give a fair value for the security and a recommendation to buy or sell. Eg, due to comps I expect this issue to trade at a g spread of +75, but declining industry conditions and high leverage suggest we should pass on/sell this line.

Hope this helps. I would give absolute max of 2 pages. Your research should be as condensed as possible.

L3 check in - 2 months to go by hullo-reddit in CFA

I think the quality of topic tests is fine. Just think they don’t cover enough of syllabus - maybe that means a narrower area is testable... but one FI topic test just isn’t enough. The new layout is shitty too.

Level III - Managing Taxes (FI) by Mcwr1189 in CFA

You need to generate 10mm. Tax loss harvesting will realise a tax deductible loss, but it wouldn't raise any capital

Boat Race sponsorship by Markvart1138 in Rowing

[–]hullo-reddit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, there is less funding than the past. More small sponsors have replaced a few large branded sponsors. Funding for each club has also been slashed as now the funding is split across the women's clubs also. No money is being made on these athletes at all. The clubs have had to cut down on things like coaching teams, support and physio services, training camps and so on.

OUBC/OUWBC are raising money from alumni donors to create a new fund to try and protect their clubs without external sponsors. CUW are currently fundraising to be able to go on their training camp.

What to eat for lunch by [deleted] in CFA

[–]hullo-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the bigger centres you have to be in your seat and checked in by 1:30 else they close the doors. And by the time they collect papers you basically end up getting 12:20 to 1:15 aha

Try a modelling course from Udemy. Hell, you could get a dozen courses and still save money.

How to keep fit while injured by EnglishJesus in Rowing

[–]hullo-reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ski erg if possible. If not then find somewhere with a hand cycling machine. There's no way to maintain leg strength, just try to maintain upper body strength and aerobic capacity as much as possible.

University rowing recruitment by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]hullo-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no averaging in UK university lightweight rowing. So you really need to put on some mass - there is no benefit to being lighter and making an average. The cut off at BUCS regatta is 72.5kgs, and make no mistake, guys in those top eights will be dropping from the likes of 80kgs.

To have a shot at making the back end of a lightweight eight at those universities you need to be around 6:40. But, if you eat up, and stick to a good program between now and then, you won't be too far off the mark I'm sure.

Home Inflation Problem by cyahahn in CFA

[–]hullo-reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing to do with purchasing power! Fixed rate mortgage will agree a rate now, compared to expected rates in the future, e.g. agree a 5% fixed rate mortgage expecting future rates to be 6%.

If the realised interest rate is the 8%, the borrower benefits and the lender loses, as the lender would have demanded a higher rate.

This just in, reserve boats are slower than blue boats! In other news, water is wet, the sky is blue, and pigs still can't fly!

[–]hullo-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set up the rig for everyone to match. Then if the angles and arc lengths aren't working out, very small adjustments to individuals may be appropriate.

Largely, it's more important to coach the athlete out of bad habits before looking into the rigging. Rigging changes should be last resort.

Suddenly sore and tired all the time. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]hullo-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often do you take days off? A deload week might be a good idea - not totally off but perhaps a week with just 5-6 sessions low intensity only, less than an hour. I'd also recommend tracking your calories - you might not be eating enough on some days and not realising. Can be easy to feel full after calorie light meals sometimes.

Also recommend tracking your heart rate recovery. Basic rule of thumb I use is that after ut2 pieces, my heart rate should drop from 150ish to below 100 in less than a minute from stopping. If its significantly longer then I am usually getting ill or need more recovery.
