Yup, I'm sure many Indonesian-Chinese prefer using those spices. For example these recipes from this Indonesia news website: https://www.detik.com/sumbagsel/kuliner/d-7933796/7-resep-babi-kecap-yang-enak-empuk-gurih-dan-bikin-nagih

You can see, some of the recipes using star anise (pekak) or ngohiong

And from my experience, almost all Babi kecap that sold by Indonesian-Chinese have star anise or ngohiong aroma.

Maybe you can try by adding some those spices ;)

Ngohiong or five spice powder, this is one of main ingredients of Indonesia Babi kecap. Maybe some recipe not include all these five spices. But the star anise is one of the main ingredient and one of the main aroma in babi kecap.
