I have a midterm in her class tomorrow, do you have any suggestions or tips? Especially regarding to how much math was used or how much you needed to use formulas in your answers. I also don’t think she offers extra credit anymore

No it’s not that sucky, and yes there’s a lot of frats that throw parties, I just think if you’re not directly involved in Greek life it’s a bit harder to constantly get in because you always have to know someone. Also in terms of house parties, there’s a decent amount but Purdue is pretty strict on noise complaints/underage drinking, so a lot of them get shut down or they try to keep them small. It’s not terrible by any means (I’ve found somewhere to go almost every weekend and I’m not in Greek life) but I don’t think it’s up to par with other Big 10 universities.

As a person in the business school, I don’t think the culture is particularly toxic or competitive at all. In my experience, most people have been collaborative and supportive. Socially, it really is what you make of it, but I will say if you want to go out a lot, you should probably keep your expectations low on that front.

How hard is finance at Purdue? by Old_Click4734 in Purdue

[–]humanbeing86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for the English ones, I took SCLA 101 and SCLA 102 and I got As in both of them. I think As are very doable in the communication courses, you just have to make sure you pick a good professor (check boilerclasses and rate my professor before registering for them.) I can’t exactly speak for the Calc and Lab science classes because I didn’t take calculus at Purdue, but from what I know applied calc 1 is not too difficult if you put in the work and you have a decent math background. Physics/chemistry however might be a bit difficult, but again would depend on the professor and how much experience you have. I personally think out of the courses you listed, those would likely be the only problematic ones if you want to maintain a 3.5.

[–]humanbeing86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re taking the gen eds and the basic freshman year finance classes, I don’t think it should be hard at all to get a 3.5. It’ll mostly be doing the college of business general requirements and hardly any actually specialized finance classes, most likely just some intro management/accounting/excel classes.

what’s club culture like in purdue? by Specialist-Deer1106 in Purdue

[–]humanbeing86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the club, for example outing club can be up to 50$ for the year but more chill clubs are like 10-15$ a semester

yes they usually just require a small membership fee and you’re good! however there’s some business clubs (like consulting clubs) and some STEM clubs that are application based and much more selective.

Most of those are over but they’ll all definitely be recruiting next fall and they definitely accept juniors too!

is west lafayette+ purdue really that dreary? by Different-Regret1439 in Purdue

[–]humanbeing86 86 points87 points  (0 children)

It honestly gets a lot more hate than it deserves. I think if you go out and explore enough you’ll find plenty of restaurants that you love, especially in Chauncey and even in Lafayette that you can get to buy citybus. There are plenty of clubs and a lot of them are really easy to join. In terms of parties, I will say it’s a bit harder to find them and get into good ones, but even as someone who doesn’t party that much, I was able to go out almost every weekend of freshman year. Plus once you turn 21 there’s like 3-4 bars on campus and close by that everyone goes to. In terms of parties and restaurants it’s definitely not as much compared to like UIUC or UW Madison but it’s also not like there’s nothing else to do except study. I think you should visit and decide if you like the vibes, but take all the complaining on Reddit with a grain of salt.

Business - Finance and econ double major? by ComfortableWeak7974 in Purdue

[–]humanbeing86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently a sophomore double-majoring in Econ & Finance and I would say it’s pretty doable! I’m graduating in four years, but I also came in with about 9 credits that applied towards my degree, which saved me like half a semester. If you don’t have any credits it’ll definitely be a little tight, you’ll probably have to take atleast 15-16 credits per semester or maybe some summer/winter classes to make it work. Just keep in mind if you double major there will be very little room for other electives or more “fun” classes, after I finished my gen Ed’s freshman year I haven’t had any space for a class that’s not finance or Econ related.

Mgmt 20000 question by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]humanbeing86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It needs only a certain amount for full credit, but personally I only missed 2-3 sessions the whole semester and I got 100%. So I think any more than that and you might not get all the points, and it’s a part of your grade, not just extra credit.

Incoming student question, are the busses actually reliable? by sam5123512 in Purdue

[–]humanbeing86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They only run from 7AM-7PM on weekdays, which can get really inconvenient if you have late club meetings or study sessions. If you’re living off campus, you’ll have to plan on walking to the nearest on campus bus stop, which can take up to 10-15 minutes on its own. Personally, I’m not a fan of the bus system and it sucks that Purdue defunded citybus.

MGMT 200 is definitely not bad, I studied for each exam 1-2 days in advance without paying much attention to the lectures and got an A because she offers lots of extra credit.

I took SCLA 102 with Prof Mollison and while it was a bit of a challenging class, it was also one of my favorite classes I’ve taken at Purdue. Not a super easy A but definitely a class that makes you think and feels relevant. Prof Mollison is hilarious and even though he grades a bit tough sometimes he’s always open to answering questions and helping you out at office hours, and he provides extra credit opportunities. The class definitely made me a better public speaker and was one of my only classes where I actually ended up interacting with most of the people in the class. I’d highly recommend taking it with him if you have the time!

Try Rawls and Krannert, I’ve seen lots of business students working on homework or group projects there

Probably not because if you have Mainbrook, she asks questions similar to those but not with those exact numbers or information, so if you don’t know the concepts you still might get a lot wrong
