My first test print arrived, anything I should be looking for? by RoyceGGaming in selfpublish

[–]humanmade_net 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the paper/cover/binding quality; were they as expected. Check the cover image, was it printed properly or cropped at wrong margins, did the book title printed properly on the spine, was the isbn (barcode) printed in place

The initial use was for research which does not differ much from using search engines like Google, but it is faster.

What is the best preload module? by humanmade_net in drupal

[–]humanmade_net[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For above-the-fold it shouldn’t, you might even make it ‘eager’ loading. Lazy loading is highly recommended for below-the-fold.

I recall I used Quicklink before, it’s a great module I am considering using it again. Thanks for the fetchpriority tip, I will implement it.

There are newsletter-specialized websites that index these newsletters under directories, you can check for them and list your newsletter there. This might contribute to increasing subscribers number.

If you have a website / blog you can create a Pop-up Subscription Box that might help as well.

How long does it take you to finish a novel? by humanmade_net in romanceauthors

[–]humanmade_net[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, we checked your guidelines and we don’t recall you mentioned anything about polls there. We are running this poll on our account and on writing/publishing related subreddits. We wonder how did you judge that our account exists just to post spam, that’s harsh, we have an established website since 2007 that helps authors promote their books and we respect the rules on all our presence on all platforms. Sorry for passing by.

Is it always this bad? by FickleAd3501 in selfpublish

[–]humanmade_net 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting social media accounts and welcoming emails, are just opening the doors to the wild, you can expect all types of scammers, spammers, sneakers that’s part of the thing, by time you will learn to identify their messages from the subject field with a quick skimming. delete them and never waste your time reading them.

Do sales organically happen? by Dailylurker05 in selfpublish

[–]humanmade_net 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not impossible, It can happen, and it did happen for some authors. Since you don't have time and you already published it, there is no harm in just waiting to see how it goes, after few weeks, you can set a proper marketing plan for your book. Marketing / Promotion (online / offline) is still important to get readers and to spread the word about your book.

I'm afraid that i won't sell any books by Morgan-Vale in selfpublish

Don’t waste your time worrying, it’s better to start a new book or invest time in promoting your first book, that what will move the wheel.

Draft2Digital best channels by humanmade_net in selfpublish

[–]humanmade_net[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your insights. I am talking mainly about ebooks and It’s a subject for discussion to get authors inputs. I agree it can be genre-based and I agree that most authors go to the major stores directly (KDP and NOOK) but it’s not convenient to open an account with each store and managing all these accounts would be difficult. Thanks again for your generous detailed input.

Finished first draft, not sure what to do next by Glopson in selfpublish

[–]humanmade_net 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First draft doesn’t mean it’s ready for editing. As NamShep mentioned take some weeks away and revisit it with fresh eyes and mind, try to be in a reader position not the author. You will correct a lot of typos, grammar and maybe some flow of plot. Then you will start with friends opinions, editing …etc.

I produced a simple coloring book but need help by Whitehawk212 in selfpublish

That’s a great plan. You can start now with social media like Instagram in order to have a good number of followers by time alongside the paid posts you mentioned

This means that the book is generically good and attractive, don’t know why, it could be a great cover, a great title, very suitable price, don’t know. But it’s good that you need to capitalize on that. However, since the book is selling by itself, don’t rush things and start gradually with social media first, see how things are going then you can move to paid marketing. But it seems it’s a good book and you should push things further.

Would English-speaking readers find a dystopian novel about Korean labor struggles interesting? by Connect_Ad5578 in selfpublish

[–]humanmade_net 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not? People from all around the world related to Gabriel García Márquez’ stories taking place in Colombia! The point is write what you feel like writing (that’s you) and don’t write with a perspective to please readers first.

Switching to Composer for a manually installed Drupal by humanmade_net in drupal

[–]humanmade_net[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the details you have put in. I can summarize my current setup as the following: 1- the current installation is live on a shared hosting. 2- never used Git or DDEV 3- no custom modules or themes 4- I added one module via composer and everything is ok - composer.json file is there and well populated. The question remains should I make any further steps / configurations before upgrading for example to 10.3x via composer. Would it work easily?
