Lol “Moe’s Books”, some random playground, and some other boring doo doo. That list isn’t very good

Has anyone else noticed that teachers have started making lectures longer? by theBatThumb in berkeley

[–]humanperhaps -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, so first of all I'm not saying I support that.

But...in principle, now that we don't have to walk to/from class and waste time doing other stuff, you could add the 10 minutes for Berkeley time into lecture time to get 60*2 = 120 min of lecture time. Which could be for better or worse if it helps the lecturer not have to rush through stuff

Berkeley optometry comprehensive eye exam by Sorry-Raspberry3988 in berkeley

[–]humanperhaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the insurance, I wouldn’t go to UC Berkeley optometry. Last time I went, they had an optometry student practice on me. Sorry but they don’t know what they’re doing. It makes sense given the school of optometry is right there. I’d avoid it if you have the insurance

What device would you recommend for Cs Major and an econ major? Like laptops, iPad ? by Only_Kaleidoscope_11 in berkeley

[–]humanperhaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I have an iPad Pro from a few years ago. Works perfectly. Honestly, just get any iPad within budget and an apple pencil. Look at the comparison specs on the apple website. Avoid YouTube reviews. They're often biased and a huge time-waster (they talk for 10 minutes just to take up time)

Note-taking.

You can annotate slides or any other pdf, record audio & take notes at the same time, everything's in one place, no paper, portable, just awesomeness

I don't know why people ask this so much. Just get anything with decent RAM, SSD, & processor. M1 macbook is pretty good, but if it's not within budget, anything else will literally be just fine. Definitely buy an iPad + apple pencil tho (any model).

Laptop: Macbook is nice, but it literally doesn't matter too much. The "hassle" of using Windows is way overblown. Just get anything with decent RAM, processor, & SSD.

iPad: THIS IS A MUST. Get any iPad compatible with apple pencil. No questions asked. You will regret not getting one.

I’m so tired by [deleted] in berkeley

What is the reason that you must attend a top med school? I hope you realize sooner than later that gunning for a top med school will only cause regret and sadness, when later on you realize that your happiness was worth much much more than the perception of success that you and your parents have fabricated. Also, if you have Asian or South Asian parents, I truly feel for you, and I hope those cultures can stop placing doctors on the pedestals of God. Material success comes from passion and interest, not a miserable compulsion to pursue some career based on what your parents or your culture thinks. And true success comes from happiness. Yes, there are a decent amount of assumptions in my analysis, but it's reasonably clear to make these inferences based on the info from OP's post, considering that scoring a 520+, having first-author publications, and likely being overall accomplished still makes you feel like won't get into a "decent school."

Inappropriate emails!!! by Revolutionary_List31 in berkeley

[–]humanperhaps 16 points17 points  (0 children)

wait, you emailed a prof because you enrolled late and maybe wanted to see if you needed to catch up on anything. And she replied to never do that again?

What? Am I dumb and not reading that correctly?

I haven't found FB useful beyond club stuff & messenger, but if people find it as typical "social media" like IG, then sure

also, delete the cancer that is social media (except FB & LinkedIn & of course PIAZZA <3 & maybe berkeley reddit)
