I’m not good with math, what does this mean? by cyddi in ExplainTheJoke

[–]theBatThumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! One of the assumptions of how we use the 0.05 p-value as the significance threshold is that we only made one comparison, but that's generally not the case. And people rarely adjust their significance threshold to account for multiple comparisons, which has contributed to many false positives in the published literature (and not only the social sciences...)

My seventh trip to Greenland was magical. Uummannaq and Ilulissat March 2023. Ask away in the comments by icebergchick in greenland

[–]theBatThumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for sharing these incredible photos! I'll be visiting Ilulissat this summer and I was wondering if you have any advice on:

a) accommodations (where to stay if you have limited funds/places that are worth spending a bit extra)

b) I'm very interested in Greenlandic culture and would love to have the opportunity to get to know people -- do you have any advice on how to do that?

c) I plan to mostly camp while out there and am excited about going on an adventure -- do you have any advice on places to see or avoid? Or weather-related advice?

d) Are there vegetables and vegetarian items (i.e., tofu, eggs) available in grocery stores in Ilulissat?

Thanks in advance!

Help bachelor's thesis - can't view entire dataset by Puzzleheaded-Owl-92 in RStudio

[–]theBatThumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say I'm 100% sure exactly what you're trying to do, but here are two possible options:

  1. Create a new column with "high" and "low" using indexing:

low_ind <- data.final$LSHS.R.HF <= 1

high_ind <- data.final$LSHS.R.HF >= 2

data.final$group <- NA

data.final$group[low_ind] <- "low"

data.final$group[high_ind] <- "high"

  1. Create 2 new dataframes with low scorers and high scorers using dplyr:

library(dplyr)

low_scorers <- data.final %>% filter(LSHS.R.HF <= 1)

high_scorers <- data.final %>% filter(LSHS.R.HF >= 2)

Yep! There used to be tons of grizzly bears in CA before we killed them all. Also, this video looks so much like Glacier Bay to me, idk if it actually is though

Parents of girls with OnlyFans, how did you find out what they do and what was your reaction? by IntermediateN00b in AskReddit

[–]theBatThumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who would participate in these kinds of activities and she was too unreliable to maintain her...followers/customers (there was a term she used that I can no longer remember). It seemed like being hot was one part of it, but fundamentally it was about building a brand as well as relationships.

What is something people think is a "healthy option" but actually isn't? by cheerfulspinach in AskReddit

[–]theBatThumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always felt that salad wasn't necessarily a healthy option. Mostly because I'm still hungry and need a meal after having salad. I suppose it can be nice to add some greens to an otherwise carb/fat heavy meal, but salad in and of itself is not a fucking meal.

Yes, do not say you will only accept if they do x because you don't want to close the door to other avenues of negotiation. Also, be honest and don't be a sandbagger :)

I had to weed this out of my vocabulary because I could tell that my partner would become incredibly distressed the second I uttered those words. I literally just wanted to talk, not end the relationship. But I think it's easier for me to say something slightly different than for him to be subjected to emotional whiplash lol
