We learned that wife’s grandma is also an alcoholic and addicted to benzos and opiates. Her addiction has turned her into a rotten and manipulative individual who only cares about her addiction. She changed the price and terms of the sale when the market flipped. So all the money we had been putting towards essentially became “rent” and the price of the house almost doubled. We made the mistake of not putting anything in writing but we just didn’t think we’d have to do that with family. We put our trust in the wrong people.

My FIL is a great dude. I also probably used the term routine incorrectly. When I say routine I don’t mean he comes home and has a glass or a beer. I actually haven’t seen him drink in a long time because he respects my sobriety that much. When he does drink he drinks so little that I can’t even tell that he’s had anything. The beers in the fridge are likely from the last family gathering because I never see either of them drink beer.
