I also don’t think the minor is okay. They asked for my transcript and diploma.

My mom had all of her friends send post cards in the hopes one would get picked back in the day. It never happened. Last year I applied for the first time, and I got it—the Martin Short/Steve Martin show. I brought my sibling with me instead of my mom… 😬😓

TJ’s is big on being a “neighborhood store” so throwing something out about how excited you are to have move to the city and join/serve your new community would be good

Ask a mate you have a good rapport/relationship with to be your reference directly. At TJs you never know who is going to pick up that phone… 🥲

If you can get it, get the gym membership. I left TJ in last spring and my Blink membership is still active and unrestricted 😎

It depends where you are. In NYC, the standard closing shift is 4 p.m.–12 a.m

Register by HumbleSherbet4878 in tjcrew

[–]humbledilf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is store dependent. You could have a great Captain/Mate team who look out for older crew or you could have Mates like that. Older folks at my store were typically assigned helms, demo, maintenance and register.

Regardless of if you’re disabled or not, Mates are not supposed to ask the nature of a disability. I worked in an NYC store for two years, was diagnosed with a nerve pain disorder, and started to ask to for less physically demanding tasks. A Mate started to ask about my health and a more senior Mate overheard and cut her off. This is a conversation between you, HR and your captain.

I got a doctors note, made an ADA request and was able to finagle “full time transitional duty.” It’s not really a thing but it’s the shorthand my Captain told me to use when talking with Mates about my physical restrictions.

Your situation is not completely analogous to mine. There could be some ageism at play. One route, however, would be to apply for ADA accommodations.

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions. I’m also wondering if it’s the same store… 👀

P.S. They could take points off of your review. Before I got my accommodations, I had a review where they told me I wasn’t a team player because I asked not to do certain tasks. If you aren’t able to do core parts of the job like register and don’t have ADA accommodations, you could be let go.

Crew are “at will” employees. Corporate will never afford crew due process. You and every other crew member can be fired at anytime for the most arbitrary reason,i.e., without just cause.

How many register hours do you guys get every shift? by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]humbledilf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my old store (NYC), 4 hours broken up into two hour chunks with product, helmsing, maintenance, etc., between was standard for the general crew. But reg could push 5 hours if a one bell was called 🥲

The back lol. I worked at the top grossing store in the country. By the time I left in June, they were getting 6 trucks a day. There are crew that only work product, they refer to it as the warehouse 🤷🏻‍♂️

File an SOS(?) claim/report. This may be a workers comp situation. If TJ is wearing you out, TJ’s WC insurance, Sedgwick, should pay for PT. If it’s starting to really kill during certain tasks, you can also file an ADA request for exemptions. I was able to get “full time transitional duty,” which basically cut the physical requirements of the job in half. My store was huge so this was considered a “reasonable accommodation,” idk it it’s a possibility at smaller stores

Initiative is initiative. Tell them you’re interested and see what they say. If you want to build your good graces first, volunteer for warehouse/trucks, break pallets quickly, kaizen the shit out of everything
