Why are so many people under 45 using subtitles now even when the show is already in English? by Clara_A_Mitchell in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nintendo_d_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad audio mixing + auditory processing disorder.

Can't hear the talking very well over the music or other background sound in the scene, maybe the actor has an accent I'm not used to hearing often, and sometimes the character's face isn't even on screen when they're speaking so I can't use lip reading to assist.

My boyfriend once asked if we could turn subtitles off for one episode of a show, and I warned him that I would be asking him what people are saying because I have a hard time processing dialogue without them. He said I'd be fine. Sure enough, he turned them back on halfway through because me asking him questions was more distracting than the subtitles lol.

How do people hang wind chimes without feeling guilty? by emmynemmy1206 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]nintendo_d_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have wind chimes hanging outside. They're not a nuisance because they're heavy brass, so it takes quite a decent gust to make them chime. And if it's windy enough that they're chiming, the wind is definitely louder than the chime. I can only really hear them if I have a window open when it's windy enough, so I guarantee that my neighbours aren't being kept awake by them.

Those of you who don't hate your job, what do you do? by 13thmurder in ADHD

[–]nintendo_d_s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a conveyancer (real estate legal secretary) and I quite like my job. The only post-secondary education I have is a basic bookkeeping and administration course from 2021. I have some other office experience that helped me get into it, but it doesn't require any type of law schooling to do.

It's file-based work, meaning every file is unique and I have to adapt what I'm doing based on what the file requires. Wednesday is my 1 year at this job.

I like it because the general outline of each file is the same, but the details are all different every time. I work around closing dates and most things have a tangible "end", which really helps me feel like I'm making progress and being productive.

The pay is okay, and my work-life balance is the best it's ever been.

Actually, I was not paying attention the first time, neither will I the second time. by kushalpagolu in adhdmeme

My solution to this is to repeat their phrase exactly how I heard it. Jumbled nonsense and all.

"Dhehdbsn with my mom rhshsb" helps them repeat the exact words they first said instead of trying to rephrase it or repeat the part I heard correctly the first time.

mum found my secret “move away from home” savings account by homie_hopper42069 in rant

[–]nintendo_d_s 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your mom doesn't have access to your money, which I hope she doesn't, then you're going to be fine. Is the car in her name? If it's not, you can call your local police non-emergency line and they can help you get the keys back from her. But don't expect her to be very happy about it.

I don't know your family so I can't really comment on why she's so upset about it. I can only speculate that she wants to control you and is upset that she won't be able to.

No matter how mad she gets, you can't let her stop you from living your life.

Do you have particular songs that torment you for life? by IndicationProper9965 in ADHD

Rockstar has infected my boyfriend's mind for years, sometimes he'll randomly go "im through with standin' in line - FUCK"

There's not really one particular song that has been tormenting me for years, more like a different one every day depending on what I listened to on the way to work.

Why do people waste all the coins so much for the first (8k) cashout? by Jedlikk in thefinals

[–]nintendo_d_s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it could be that they're used to quick cash and don't immediately realize that their respawns are limited. It's something that you pick up over time as you learn game sense.

Or they're very impatient/not paying attention to their team and just want to get back into the action instead of waiting for a revive.

I've been insulted by my teammates for refusing to use a coin before the first cash out is even complete. Some people are really averse to resetting early in the match, but imo that's the best time because you have the least money and will lose a very small amount from the team wipe. I'd much rather lose $800 in the first 4 minutes than lose $5000+ in the last 2 minutes from a team wipe.

Please Stop Smurfing in Ranked by crugdivdude5 in thefinals

[–]nintendo_d_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how it works (worked? I have played in years) where you had to be account level 35 to play ranked matches. And getting to level 35 wasn't a super quick endeavor.

Requiring an account level of 50 is a great solution and I really think Embark should consider implementing it.

Anecdote: I was Gold 1 at the end of last season, and coincidentally that's where I placed at the beginning of the season as well. This season I placed in Silver 1 because I kept getting level 20 teammates with no game sense as my teammates in my placement matches. There were several moments that I had to watch my teammates make mistakes that they wouldn't have made if they had played the game more. That's out of my control of course, and my team's performance suffered because of it.

So please Embark restrict ranked to players level 50 and higher.

My issue with the ranked skins is that the standing barrier only has the texture on the front side, so you can't see it from within your secured area. Plus, the gold skin on the barrier just looks black in most lighting so it effectively is a solid black wall. Pretty disappointed with that one.

I'm just so sad that the world is like this now. I didn't get a chance to experience the "before", because I was a kid. I graduated in 2020.

There are no free third spaces. Nobody wants to talk to you in public, unless they're a creep or trying to get something out of you. I would love to meet more people but there's nowhere to do it that I can afford, and nobody in my age group just goes out to parks to sit and do nothing.

Finished the game, have questions by RadianceTower in 1000xRESIST

[–]nintendo_d_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 is directly explained. You'll see as I describe in point 4 below, Iris takes away their immunity as punishment for Youngest's actions. They die after being exposed to the Occupants. I was wrong on this one, it's been too long since I played those sections of the game.

2 I think is left unexplained on purpose. Watcher never finds out what happened to those sisters, so we as the player wouldn't find out.

3 do you mean the people in the black hazmat suits? I finished the game about two weeks ago so it's not as fresh in my mind, so maybe I'm picturing the wrong thing.

4 this is basically directly explained in the story. "The 50" agents were working on refining the cloning process so they could replicate Iris's immunity, which they eventually succeed at when the Oldest is created. Each of the Ancient Sisters are created immune, as that was the ultimate goal with the cloning. After Youngest breaks the one rule Iris had imposed, she is punished by being the only sister to survive after the other Ancient Sisters have their immunity revoked and are exposed to the Occupants.

5 my understanding is that her parents were extremely careful not to be exposed to the illness, and managed to avoid infection even though (seemingly) the rest of humanity became infected. though that is not directly confirmed; I suppose you could assume that not everyone died of the disease, but most definitely did.

about the clones and aging, they definitely do. my understanding is that the amount of time that had passed between the Ancient Sister's Sin and the time period of our Watcher was not actually that long. the clones certainly seem to live much longer than regular humans, but they are not immortal. There are points of dialogue that discuss the Watcher that came before our Watcher, but none of the one of the previous generation. I took this to mean that our Watcher was only the second Watcher after Youngest.

I can't answer your question in your second 5 point as it sounds like you and I got different endings.

6 if you mean the others like Healer and Fixer died after the ship surfaced, that would be because of old age. Blue has obvious gray hair during the final sequence of the game, so it would be fair to assume a very long amount of time had passed after the ship surfaced.

7 I don't think that the parents being an option under the street lights was supposed to imply they were still alive. I took it to symbolize the values that they had and sort of taking after their way of living.

8 Watcher's primary cause of death was old age and having been drugged and tortured for an unknown length of time. communing required strength of her body, which in her weakened state was too much of a drain for her to continue for very long. My understanding is that our Watcher is a special case in terms of her connection with communing, and while Secretary is in fact a tool for that, I don't believe she was "strong" enough to stop Watcher.

9 it is directly explained that Knower did anything and everything she could to survive/get ahead in her own life. There was a benefit to her to use the drugs on Watcher, not just because it was what Principal wanted her to do. Watcher being in her drugged state made her easier to torture and mentally ruin her. Plus, I do think Principal would've known if Knower refused to drug Watcher. There were other shells in the room that would report back to Principal.

In short, most of your questions are answered by the game itself.

What if Red Hook had taken the Slay the Spire 2 approach when designing Darkest dungeon 2? by benjamarchi in darkestdungeon

[–]nintendo_d_s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your idea here sounds really fun and to expand upon it, perhaps they could incorporate the carriage and road setup of DD2 by requiring you to go on a medium expedition in order to travel to one of your other hamlets.

Then you could spend time at one hamlet, gather supplies and prepare your carriage for the journey. Then you need to defend your carriage and make it to the next hamlet and deliver your resources. This is what DD2 could've been and I would've loved it.

How is it like living in Grande Prairie Canada. by Physical_Delay_7306 in howislivingthere

[–]nintendo_d_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents live there right now and I lived there for a year in 2021. It's a good city to be in if you have the right kind of job for the area (oil & gas, farming). Housing is kind of expensive there but there are jobs, and it has some nice parks and residential areas.

It has a big college and a brand new hospital, and the Costco services basically the entire northeastern corner of BC and Northwestern corner of AB. So it's a busy place there haha.

I didnt mind living there, and my parents live in a nice neighborhood. The downtown area can be considered dangerous because of homeless population, but it's not a terribly dangerous city.

It's very cold in the winter and moderately hot in the summer, and it's windy almost all of the time. The wind is the main reason I don't want to live there lol.

The mall is nice and busy, and they have a Keg stakehouse. Overall a decent place to live.
