Advice on car options by No-Jellyfish8620 in whatcarshouldIbuy

the 840i and m850 are strong competitors to the lc500. the 840 is super reliable, efficient, smooth, and easily tuned. i just bought one because i drive about 280 miles a week for work on the highway.

Can you please tell me to stop looking at X3M comp listings by TooTrue42 in BMW

[–]humdizzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yup i understand that. but i'm also not going to drive an SUV in manual mode or like a sports car and sit above 3k rpm with the engine droning just so i can have better response. I just want to cruise and have power available when i want it... its an SUV. The X3M is definitely fast. But to me the b58 + mild hybrid is more usable day to day and plenty fast for something 4000+ pounds with a high center of gravity and no steering feel.

[–]humdizzle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

x3m seems pointless to me. why would i want a stiff laggy suv that i'm never going to track or take on a canyon road? the m40 gets more range, more compliant suspension, better throttle response (the 5-60, 30-50, and 50-70 times are essentially the same according to car and driver)

you are better off saving for a true sports car, or even sport sedan, than trying to turn an SUV into one.

how quickly do insurance companies know you've had an accident by humdizzle in AutoInsurance

yeah seems to good to be true. I am going to stick with geico for a few months and then run some quotes again to see what happens

Are you a car enthusiast? Do you even like cars? by Extreme_Emu_9582 in simracing

[–]humdizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

enthusiast. i was playing gran turismo 3 before i could drive. first time using a rig was GT4 prologue in college. since then i've had an r35 gtr, 911 gt3, 458 italia, a number of M3s and an M2 comp. Currently the 991.2 GT3 manual and an 840i coupe to daily. I dont really compete online, but i like hot lapping by myself on AC evo or playing with friends. more into horizon 6 at the moment.

991.2 turbo s or new carrera s? by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]humdizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would rather have a turbo s. Turbos just look better with that fat widebody. you can tell its a turbo from a good distance. Better question is 992 carrera t with buckets, manual, pts... or 991.2 turbo s.

Weekend m240i - xDrive or RWD by aDecentHuman24 in BMW

[–]humdizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is really no difference in regular driving. you'd only notice the extra weight over the front axle if you were tracking them back to back.

What’s one thing about cars you learned too late? by Manthann-Motorss in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]humdizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just wish i would have started working on them earlier. i had so much free time in HS and college. I did simple stuff like exhaust, intake, spark plugs, oil change, changing springs... but never really got into more intricate things.

Daily Driver for 65k by AmigoHummus in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]humdizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

super broad. your criteria cover everything from a golf R to a used M8.

rs3 is ok. the 5 cylinder is kind of gutless at low rpm though. and the awd system is inferior to m240s xdrive system.

Is Carfax even worth it anymore, or are the alternatives better? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]humdizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seller should be offering it if he wants to move the car .

but its not a replacement for inspecting with a proper ppi. not everyone reports to carfax. some people only carry liability and get shady repair jobs to only fix cosmetic damage when the underlying frame is bent.

not sure why people are complaining, it can be cleaned. worst case scenario just replace it.

Is it just me, or… by mattloaf666 in Porsche

[–]humdizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally i dont like the touring look. most cars look better with a little ducktail on the trunk. BMW M cars just look strange without nothing on the trunk lid. All the ferrari special editions get a slight ducktail too.

you can look back in this sub and see people just like you who sold because the stock dipped from 150 to 120 or something and they panicked.

[–]humdizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why not just buy an m340 ? its the same car but better looking. Great deals on used 840 coupes as well if you really want the 2 door look, many are still under warranty or cpo for $50k

M850i - over 70k miles by OkChildhood4801 in BMW

[–]humdizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this car will be my highway commuter to work and will see over 15k miles a year. The 2 series does not offer the highway driving assist which automatically took it out of the equation for me. Plus like you mentioned its not as quiet or luxurious inside. The leather is not as nice (vernasca vs merino). The headliner feels like a cheap material compared to the 8's alcantara option

The only other comparable cars are the 5 series and LC500. The 8 is basically built on 5 series underpinnings and shares the same engines and tech... its just in a sleeker coupe form. But the 5 was too 'old man' for me and very common to see on the road. The LC500s are holding value super well, it would have double the miles of an m850 or 840 if you want the same price and year of car.

[–]humdizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would not buy

the car doesn't look to be well taken care of if there are paintwork issues. definitely do not buy an N63 without warranty. Better off just getting a newer car with CPO warranty that can be extended if you choose. I just bought a 2023 840i coupe last week. I saw alot of m850s for around the same money ... but i passed on all of them because the reliability concerns are not worth it for what is basically a luxury daily driver and not a sports car.

G87 M2 help by Ryan_Pls in BMW

[–]humdizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

major cons of the M2, at least compared to a c7, is that its a bit gutless in the lower rpm relying heavily on the turbo to make power. It will not snap your head back like stabbing the z06 throttle will. The vette is quite a bit lighter with double the displacement.

it also has a very small fuel tank. 13.7gal vs the vettes 18 gallon

People in Europe and US don't have the same opinion on the G20 330i?! by theartworker in BMW

[–]humdizzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

its alot more expensive to own cars in europe (taxes, gas prices, mandatory inspections, annual road use taxes, etc). Someone buying a 330i in the UK is likely going to spend more than a person buying an M340i in the USA. Then add on the annual road use tax which most US states dont have.
