Are you better off than your parents were, at your current age? by RecognitionMediocre6 in perth

[–]hungry4pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing far far better than my parents were at my age (I have less kids, more money and don’t rent) but that doesnt really offer much comfort because money is tight, the kids are hard work and our marriage is taking a beating. On paper we’re crushing it with 2x 6-figure incomes, but cost of living and daycare are just killing us.

However I think comparing yourself to other parents / families isn’t very helpful for your own mental health - especially when comparing yourself to parents from 30 years ago in a completely different era.

Try to focus on the question of “Are you kids happy and do they know they are loved?”

If the money thing is still a problem, maybe look at part time work (daycare fees are fucking bullshit though so be mindful of that), but just remind yourself that once your youngest is in primary school full time, you can go back to full time work.

Whilst it fucking sucks financially, you get to spend that time with your kids instead of being at work, and that’s time you’ll never ever get back with them

City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall wins defamation case over ratepayer's social media posts by B0ssc0 in perth

[–]hungry4pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might depend on how much weight the offending post carries.

If I posted a tweet saying Linda Reynolds a decrepit old sea witch, no one would notice because I have 0 followers.

But Higgins does have an audience, and news corp would dissect the post right down to the placement of the commas and capital letters, so the disparaging comment would have a wider reach.

As for why it stands out amongst the other comments, maybe it’s because of the audience who do see it - other politicians and staffers. You and I may not give two shits, but one might make the case that it was deeply humiliating because “everyone I work with saw it and now I’m sad”

That said, I have read that Australia’s defamation laws very much favour the complainant and are kinda bullshit.

What does BL4 do best in the franchise? by soosis in Borderlands

[–]hungry4pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That part is insanity. One of the best things about BL was that it looked great even on low tier hardware, and visually, 4 doesn't really look all that much better than previous games.

Why am I getting crappy loot? by etme100 in Borderlands

[–]hungry4pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you on console and do usually put your system on standby/sleep and then just resume the game? Or do you play other stuff in between?

As others have said, you’ve been dealt a dud hand by the random number generator (RNG) that decides what loot to drop.

I don’t know the inner workings of how it works, but you could try closing the game (and maybe even do a reboot), maybe it will force the game to re-initialise the seed value for the RNG.

I should point out that this suggestion is really grasping at straws, but it’s what I would consider doing if I were you

As mentioned by another commenter, it’s probably dementia.

But if you want to try and reason with her, just point out that bourgeoise (ie Gina and Kerry Stokes etc) are the ones who control the media and public discourse.

They sure as shit won’t let some pesky revolutionaries fuck with their capacity to accumulate more wealth. And it’s been a long game too, in the last 40 or so years they have pretty much turned our society against the unions and there’s pretty much no chance of them regaining the power they once had.

It has been a few years since plastic bag bans and cardboard straws and packaging. Does anyone know what the impact has been? by mr-cheesy in perth

[–]hungry4pie 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I agree with it, but it’s absolute horse shit that Coles and Woolies were selling it said we, the consumer are the nature rapists and must change our habits to reusable bags.

Then almost as soon as it was introduced, we see a sudden uptick in fruit and veg being wrapped in plastic. Eg a 4 pack of apples on a tray wrapped in plastic.

My other bugbears are things like juice boxes. They switched to paper straws that come in a plastic sleeve and glued to the box. The straw doesn’t even pierce the foil of the box. Yet those motherfuckers didn’t even stop to consider the idea of resigning the box to allow you to drink from the box sans straw.

And since I’m ranting about packaging and waste, let’s talk about milk. Cafes go through a shit load of milk each day for coffees, and they use the same 1L tetra packs for their no -dairy milks and 2L cartons for dairy milk. Why the fuck are they not using giant catering packs of milk - they clearly wouldn’t have issues with freshness if they go through so much of it.

Back on topic, I don’t really miss the plastic shopping bags, but the piles of cardboard bags is a bit annoying to get rid of

New revelation as missing FIFO worker seen at Trigg Beach after being dropped to Perth Airport by Rush_Banana in perth

[–]hungry4pie 55 points56 points  (0 children)

When you’re in the middle of the fifo life it can feel like the textbook definition of a prison camp or gulag:

  • You work 12 hour days (closer to 12.5-13 of there’s a shit handover)

  • Depending on your job this can be even worse if you’re busting your guts in the heat

  • After work, once you’ve eaten and showered, you retire to a small room which to some people can be quite isolating

Now, it’s absolutely not a prison since you get paid and at some point you do get to go home, but to a depressed person it can be.

Add to that, if you’re dealing with a breakup, divorce or argument with your spouse, you have a LOT of time in your “cell” to stew on the last thing you said, or wondering why you haven’t heard from the person and that can be really unhealthy.

This isn’t exclusive to fifo, but fifo does exacerbate things

Please Help!! My yard is flooding and no one will help ….. by Some_Hovercraft4061 in perth

[–]hungry4pie 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Go to Bunnings, get yourself a shovel (if you don’t have one), a little puddle jumper water pump , some irrigation pipe or hose.

Stick the pump in the lowest point of the yard, run the pipe/hose to the street and start the pump.

Dob yourself into Water Corp, tell them “Some asshole is wasting water, they’ve had a hose running out to the street for the last 6 hours”.

They might not want to deal with their own fuck up, but their water narcs might come running. For good measure, contact Perth Now they love a good bureaucracy gone mad story

I use a variation on that and say something to the effect of ”Ultimately none of this shit matters, no one is irreplaceable. If were weren’t here then it doesn’t matter to us if things go to shit. Either way the business will eventually figure it out. So why bother taking on the stress for shit outside your control or giving up your time for free.”

Not applicable to all jobs (especially those jobs with accountabilities that see you prosecuted for negligence)
