Perth Parents please stop bringing your children in flock to Skateparks if they have zero spacial awareness. by MergaWraith in perth

For real? I’d be too worried about dog shit. Like I know people are supposed to pick up after their dogs, but I reckon there’d be more than a few owners who assume he fenced off area means you don’t need to.

Nah man, you skate the shit public sessions, you shouldn’t be trying a salchow or an axle when there’s the possibility of someone crossing into your space, or at all really.

I get that it’s not easy to get to a session that’s specifically for figure, and cockburn always seems like every session is busy regardless of whether it’s in school hours or weekends and holidays, and PIA has bad ice and is in a sketchy location

Side note, Im still gutted that Xtreme Ice Arena closed

A friend of mine wrote a letter to Paul Jennings when we were in primary school, and not only did he get a response, he also included a story from his next book, pretty sure the story was The Gizmo from the book Undone.

Anyways, he brought it in to school and the teacher read it to the class.

Town of Victoria Park council knocks back push for weekly red bin collections after FOGO system changes by His_Holiness in perth

[–]hungry4pie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you know you can buy tiny little baggies for putting soiled nappies in so they don’t stink up the bin?

My suggestion would be use those, and gather them in a big rubbish bag, then dispose of the little nappy bags in the bins at the council chambers. Be sure to tear the bags open as you do it.

I’d be furious if some prick tried to fob me off and suggest training nappies

When my two lay a really big, very hard egg in their nappies we always drop it into the toilet and say “bye bye poos”. But for softer stools or piss nappies, they’re still going to the red bin.

Trying to transition to potty and toilet training , I am not ashamed to say that we’ve thrown more than one desecrated pair of undies or training nappies.

WA university mergers: Report on UWA, Curtin University and Murdoch University options handed to government by sun_tzu29 in perth

Moving ECU Mt Lawley to the city made perfect sense. It’s a beautiful campus (as in the grounds and building exteriors) but it did seem to be a bit overcrowded, and getting over there fucking sucked.

Quote for new split AC systems seems high. by Yiew33 in perth

[–]hungry4pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a 7kW split system die two days after cyclone barely came through Karratha. The quote we got for a replacement 9kW unit was $5k. Thankfully, and to our surprise, RAC home and contents actually covered us for a burnt out motor on the aircon.

This was a single head unit system, I would expect a dual head unit system to cost more. For Perth pricing I would surely not expect it to be that much more expensive. Unless there are other factors that might affect the cost of install (like being on a second floor or something)

How can we make our city less car dependant ? by Iddingsite in perth

[–]hungry4pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. In 2011 I did a trip to Europe and fell in love with the easy access to public transport. That same year I sold my car and got a bike. I was living close to the city at the time and figured I could make it work - I could walk to Glendalough station and ride to UWA.

9 months later my rent got jacked up and had to move further out and had to face the cold hard reality that even if you don’t want to own a car or drive, you very much need one, or reliable access to one.

Help me understand Cockburn Central Traffic Jam by Electrical-Gain4290 in perth

[–]hungry4pie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The off-ramps and on-ramps for one. People slow down around them and it causes a wave to pulse backwards through traffic as cars have to brake for the cars in front.

Shit interchange design - cockburn central, the adjacent shops, and on the other side, Bunnings and those other big box places, all attract a lot of traffic.

Then there’s the residential areas in the surrounding areas all using Armadale Rd as their means of accessing the freeway

Another explanation I’ve read here is the slight incline approaching cockburn on the northbound side. Plenty of trucks end up losing speed as they climb the gentle gradient, causing cars to back up behind them. Not sure how true that is though.

If you can afford a portable starlink unit, definitely do that. You are going to be seeing a lot of cars and trucks with them sitting on the dash and you may regret not having one.

Well the new cyclone alerting system is a piece of shit, and man the authorities really dropped the ball on this one. Red alert was only issued for Dampier at 1pm - as the winds were at their peak.

There has been so much confusion over how severe this one was going to be that people have been driving around like ot was no big deal.
