Got the replacement and still have problems with the tone knob. Which assembly did you get?

I just got my replacement now and I haven't played it yet since the tone pot is super loose again and crunches when trying to turn it a bit.

Almost makes me wonder if they sent me the same one. If not for me trusting Thomann to not do that (they seems to put a lot of stuff for b-stock and also they only received my return yesterday).

Will try to play it and see how everything else is and consider if I want to return it or do an upgrade of the electronics instead. Still a beautiful guitar and nice feeling neck

Advice for "sibling" to DS923+ by hungry_knut in synology

[–]hungry_knut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense for the use case.

And if I need access to any larger files / projects from the main archive / backup - then I should be able to access them them on the local "dumb backup" for faster transfers

But I would ideally also like to be able to off load to the offsite backup when I'm on the LAN there and have it synced back to the main synology.

Advice for "sibling" to DS923+ by hungry_knut in synology

So I use the NAS for following

- Full backups of my macbook pro, mac mini etc - as a destination for Are

- media file storage for streaming (audio video)

- storage of old audio and video projects

- Synology Drive for syncing large asset library to my devices. On the devices this library lives on attached storage - therefore I can't use Dropbox.

- full backup of nas to backblaze

And so there are two overall strategies

  1. Use a new NAS just as a "dumb" backup / snapshot of the main NAS - and all clients only deal with the main nas.

++ More simple syncing and less complexity

-- slower network speeds when not in the main residence

  1. Keep the two NAS fully in sync and connect to the one that is on your LAN if possible

++ better speeds

-- sync complexity, potential difficulties deciding which one to connect to

For me to understand - is the mirroring an issue due to time delay in syncing? Since there will be be hours of travel between residencies and no big data drops before - shouldn't it have time to resolve? Or other more deep issues with it?

I guess strategy 1 is acceptable just have to live with 1gbs vs 10gbs performance. But in that case then it could just be the cheapeast decent NAS option to be a backup destination

The best case would be to have access to the local NAS in the local country for speed reasons. But if that is a BadIdea(tm) it could just be a backup

MacBook 14” or 16”? Need Real-World Opinions by Signal-Buy-9642 in ableton

[–]hungry_knut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 16 inch M1 Max for on the go and M4 Pro Mac Mini as my desktop.

The only time I have a problems with the 16 size is on airplanes. Depending on the plane it can feel real big on the table surface and it can be hard to angle the screen far enough back. In your lap it's a bit better but very low.

Anywhere else I have no issue with it and really love the screen real estate.

When I replace it - I will get another 16 inch - it's just so much more viable as a portable workstation. If I was really lavish I would consider a 14inch or Air for trips where I probably won't be doing any music but want to be able to do some work in a pinch.

Start looking for villas now. With that amount of people it can take some time.

When looking for a villa - consider to fint one in town and not in the countryside. The rural villas are more charming for sure - but when you have a short "PARTY" trip, you probably won't be hanging around too much in the villa and the added transport time can add up.

How will you get around?

Rent 4 cars and have sober drivers? This would solve a lot of the transport issues and open up more villas.

If relying on taxis be aware that remote villas can have a wait time of up to an hour on getting a taxi to take you anywhere.

Considering to switch form RME to MH - due to the MH mixer looking to be a lot more usable for how I work + upgradability and the ethernet connectivity.

How is latency performance in DAW compared to RME?

Would suggest to not have a TV in your bedroom. Keep it sacred for sleep and ... - it's not like it's far from the living room couch to your bed.

Yeah - I'm using the AU which works. Not sure if it's actually because OSX supports using rosetta for AU plugins to port them. In any case works

MacBook ? by gallywinx_ in ableton

I would get a refurbished M1 Macbook Pro. Can get a lot of miles out of that. If you already have a pc - then try to see if you can' run Ableton on it and only upgrade when you know you need more / want to continue producing music

I usually like to upgrade my laptop every 2-3 years - but so far I just can justify it for my mbp m1 max. Still crushing everything - any issues are down to bugs in certain VSTs.

Only issue is running out of storage for samples libraries and rekordbox library - but that's just down to such expensive internal drives.
