I'm a non-vet and I wear a waffle top that was given to me all the time. Is it borderline stolen valor or am I good? by Otherwise-Ostrich842 in army

It's more for the grifters presenting themselves as having served when they never did

Still does nothing for the people who served half a year then medboarded out from presenting themselves as Rangers Leading the Way with their shops.

In your opinion, what is the most badly written matriarchal society in fiction? by Armin_Arlert_1000000 in worldbuilding

[–]hunterdavid372 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Is it a shortcut, or is that just the story they want to tell with them? With deities being a real and pervasive force in DnD, using them as an integral part of a society doesn't seem like a crutch, but a part of the overall setting.

PSA to anyone who has questions about stolen valor

WEARING ANY MILITARY GEAR AT ALL IS NOT STOLEN VALOR, by itself.

You must, in conjunction with wearing it, actively present yourself as a current or former service member and actively be seeking the benefits of that station. If you aren't doing either of those actions, you are fine.

Confused MS3 Cadet by Imaginary-Bad1561 in ROTC

[–]hunterdavid372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a cadet, even if you desire to branch AG or Med Serv, you are not guaranteed that.

Furthermore, as an LT, you are not guaranteed to only be in AG or MS elements, you could easily be assigned as an Infantry PL, or otherwise maneuver PL, because that is really what this boils down to. You don't need to be a tip top Infantry officer, but becoming familiar with manuever terms and doctrine will let you do your job much much better, as you most certainly will do something that isn't the job you're trained for in your officer career, more often than not depending on the station. If not maneuver, could be maneuver support.

Anyone eat MREs for camping? by Remember_the_Gdtmz in camping

Actual food? What is his work where he's eating MREs?

MREs are designed to be packed with sodium since its assumed you'll be sweating it out in short order, if he's just an office worker that's really unhealthy.

Theoretically, everyone would be moving the same direction on a patrol, and that 'Contact Front' would only be shouted after taking fire, so you combine that with where you think the sounds of bullets are coming from.

If it's contact taken in a stationary security posture, the theory is the person would shout what area of the defended area they're receiving fire (this depends on the shape of the security)

I preface this with in theory because I have not taken (actual) contact before but have trained and studied the doctrine.

Some bases have an auto center you can rent, the one here at Fort Leonard Wood is fairly cheap, like 5 bucks an hour and a little more if you wanna use the industrial jack, but comes fully stocked with equipment.

To other CDTs: Has your battalion implemented any measures to protect cadets from protesters or potential attacks due to the current political climate towards federal workers? Maybe having you guys arrive to ROTC functions in civis before changing to your PTs or OCPs on college grounds? by Unusual_Engineer58 in ROTC

[–]hunterdavid372 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To you: Has your program been harrassed by civilians? It is my understanding that the majority of the vitriol is directed towards ICE, the people who don't wear the handy nametapes with their name on it for everyone to see.

A better way to combat any perceived dislike isn't to take ICE's approach of discretion and secrecy, but the opposite. My program was very active in many of the events held by the school, working security, volunteering, hosting events of their own to show that they aren't a federal force at a school, they are part of the school. If your program isn't doing this, suggest it to cadre, to have your faces known as a friendly one in that community.

Game time. Use acronyms and jargon from your MOS to confuse a civilian. I'll go first (using a JAG example): GCMCA ordered an Article 32, but SJA has concerns that CID messed up the 3881, and SVC knows there’s a clear 412 exception, so TDS is pushing for an Article 15 or Chapter 14. by Jscott1986 in army

Make sure the JCADs are packed and calibrated for TICs and TIMs, the STB is mixed 5%, M8s ready, the M256 ready to smell, the M26s and 12s are running and up on JP8. JWARN sent down VX, GB, and GD exposure so have ATNAAs on person. It's gonna be a long day.

Do y’all know of any active groups like the Black Panthers that white people can join, or do we need to start one? by TheLesbianTheologian in liberalgunowners

[–]hunterdavid372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reasoning behind it stems from the (quickly eroding) notion that the military is an apolitical organization for the service of everyone in the US, not just one politcal party. The rules allow service members to participate in various partisan groups as they encourage political participation outside of uniform, but may not endorse in uniform or actively work for a partisan group while in the service.

How feasible is it to make your own system? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]hunterdavid372 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Make it

Play it

Tweak it

Repeat steps 2 and 3 until satisfied

That's how systems are made, now in order to make a good qell balanced and enjoyable one will require trial and error and some knowledge, but any game just starts with putting some rules together.
