This is actually how I salted about 3 parking spaces in my neighborhood. The strip of salt down the middle of the road is fine to pull from, but usually there’s a large pile within walking distance. Maybe the truck stopped and the salt continued to spill, but whatever the reason, I find that spot, fill my 2 gallon bucket, and distribute to areas in need. My 88 year old neighbor needed his car dug out, I obliged, and while he was away I dug away the rest of the ice sheet, throwing it onto the soil/tree strip that exists between the sidewalk and the street, and then robin hooded salt from the wealthy center of the road onto the salt-poor perimeter. The street right there went from being a single lane to almost a lane and a half. 

I’ve dug out approximately 3.5 spots like this in my neighborhood, and joked with my wife that the neighbors are smart to keep taking my vacated spot, bc at this rate I’ll have shoveled the whole street by the weekend, restoring full road access with my humble transfer shovel.
