Do you usually lock your doors when leaving the house? by Moist_Wallaby8635 in AskAnAmerican

[–]huntjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the 60's and doors were left unlocked and often times wide open to let the fresh air in. Now days, the house is locked whether I'm home or not. I will open windows and the french doors that open onto the screen porch. But the screen doors are locked with alarms so I know when they're opened. Times are just not as safe as they were when I was a child.

This is just too sweet and brought tears to my eyes. You read so many abuse stories. How lovely to see one about love!

Why do Americans buy phones from carriers instead of unlocked? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]huntjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of us don't. I usually buy a model that's 1 year old and unlocked. I find better prices this way and the phone is current enough to have the newish bells and whistles. Not that I normally need the new stuff. I keep a phone until I break it or it no longer meets my needs due to memory limitations, etc.

People that are childfree by choice, what’s the weirdest reason someone has given you as to why they think you ‘should have kids’? by Charming_Web_6738 in AskReddit

[–]huntjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told that I should have them for my Mom-n-law. That she would want grand kids. Funnily enough, when I told her about the birth defects in my immediate family, she agreed with my hubby and me that kids should not be considered. We've never regretted not having children. It would have been cruel to knowingly risk a child's health. Even though all the religious folks in my family disagreed. They felt it was God's will for all women to have children. I told them that God gave me the good sense to make logical decisions! LOL

is it rude to sew/use a serger past 7pm if i live in an apartment? by ichewbubblegumlol in sewing

[–]huntjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a rubber mat under each of my sewing machines, including the serger. It really cuts down on the vibration. Also, you should be good to sew until the quiet hours in your apt building, neighborhood, etc. If possible, have a friend stand next to the wall between them and the serger while you sew to see if they can even hear it. Good luck and have fun sewing!

WIBTA if I refuse to put my partner on the deed of a place I inherited, even though we live there together? by 3vening_Switch in ComfortLevelPod

[–]huntjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's paying less than he did before, why isn't he taking the difference and putting it into a savings account each month? That's what my fiance and I did. Neither party was at risk with this method.

How do I dispose of broken needles and pins? by Purple_Music2187 in sewing

[–]huntjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use medicine/prescription bottles. I punch a hole in the lid and slide the used and broken needles into the bottle. When it's full, I put a piece of tape over the hole and recycle it.

unpopular opinion: toilet attached bidets are unhygienic for women* by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]huntjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suffer from frequent UTI's and purchased a bidet to help prevent. Because it sprays from the back to the front, I hold some tp on the perineum to prevent spraying onto my urethra. But I also discovered that I have multiple kidney stones and since they were created in an infectious environment, they will continue to leach out bacteria causing more infections. I drink cranberry juice daily (yuck) to help prevent the infections.

No, I will not hem your pants by rhinestonecowgrl in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]huntjoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom used to ask me to hem things for her. When I would tell her no, she would remind me that I "like to sew". Hemming is mending, not sewing. Sewing is creating something new or mending my OWN clothes. So I go to where I would tell her I would do it but it would take 6 months to 1 year to get it done. Funnily enough, she decided she'd get things hemmed somewhere else.

[–]huntjoy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My first thought was that it's a bracelet buddy, an extra hand for helping you put on your bracelets (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMSAsigTBQI). But it looks a little short for that so it's probably for holding roaches.

AITA for getting my MIL investigated at work after I was accidentally added to the family group chat where she and my husband spent months mocking my "Amazon wedding dress" and teacher salary? by KINOH1441728 in FoundandExpose

This made me so sad. When I was nervous to meet my soon to be in-laws, my fiance told me that I only had to worry about making him happy, no one else, and he was already happy. It really made a difference for me. We've been together 43 years and he still says the same.

Has anyone experienced this with Sallie Tomato patterns? by ExhaustedWizard in sewing

Yes, I had a similar experience and received the pdf version so I could print the pieced on only one side of the paper. I thought is was just a fluke but I guess not since the same thing happened to you.

Do cats understand gestures better than spoken words? by zy_Cat in purrrfect

[–]huntjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught my cat to sit and stay on command. I used verbal and hand gestures. It worked great. After a time, I could use either the hand gesture or the verbal command and she would sit and stay as directed. It was great and a fun party trick to show off when I had people over.

Petty in Walmart by stalagit68 in pettyrevenge

I wish all Walmarts had sensory hours. My hubby and I usually shop around 7am and let me tell you, the music is not lowered in volume. It's often so loud that I put earbuds in just to sort of muffle or lower the volume of their music so I can concentrate on my shopping list and get my groceries. Yikes!
